Though far from flawless, 'Batman' worked as well as it did because Burton's particualr combination of Gothic sensibilities and quasi-surrealism was a perfect fit for characters like Batman and the Joker in a setting like Gotham City.

Superman...not so much.

Mind you, the masochist in me would be curious to hear what Danny Elfman would have come up with for the main theme...

Instead of the bad "Superman Lives", we got the bad "Man of Steel".

I was surprised by how similar some concepts were and how much more people were accepting of them for the latter. Interesting that Burton, I think Abrams, somewhat Singer and then Nolan/Goyer/Snyder all felt a need for internal conflict related to a lot of Kryptonians being evil or at least highly flawed and Superman having to distance himself but still feeling distant from adopted Earth, that so many thought that kind of angst was necessary.

i like how the producer acquired the rights to Superman...then told the writer Superman must never fly, not wear his iconic costume...and his cape should become a weapon that can cut heads off.

The death of Superman and copying what happened with Princess Diana is strange.

ETA: At least they got Superman fighting a giant spider/squid like "creature" in MoS.

All you need to know is Tim Burton. You could not find another director more unsuited for Super...anything.
