The Dark Knight Rises Anticipation Station

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

I don't particularly like the title, but I also don't really care about the title.

It does give a subtle indication that this might be about Batman's public rehabilitation. Dark Knight ended with him being a pariah so this ends up with him 'rising again'. if the the story is something like that, the title ends up being a little better.

But if not, I don't really care.

I honestly think that makes the title worse. Right now it's just way too obvious.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

Ugh. I thought the title of the next movie was a no-brainer:

"Shadow of the Bat"

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

I'm sure the film will be fantastic, regardless of the title, but why are so many sequels these days rising, or falling, or returning or revenging?

Hmm, that gives me an idea: Return of the Fallen Batman's Rising Revenge.

I think I would have called it Batman: Time to Prepare.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

I don't have an issue with the title only that I kind of wish it was a little more creative. I expected a bit more coming from Nolan.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

You know, there's another way of looking at the title. Consider "Rises" in the context of the word immediately preceding it. After someone is knighted, he rises from a kneeling position. "Rise, Sir Bedevere, Knight of Camelot." He knelt as an ordinary man and now rises as a knight, as one who has taken on a new honor, a new role. So if the story is about Batman being rehabilitated in the public eye and maybe taking on a new role as their protector in a more formal capacity (or something), the title The Dark Knight Rises could be symbolically appropriate.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

That's a good way to look at it, Christopher, but I still find it a pretty unexciting title. I'd imagine that given the phenominal success of The Dark Knight, the studio is very happy that words "Dark Knight" are in the new title. I agree that Shadow of the Bat would be a much better name, though.

Disappointed that we won't get to see the Riddler in the movie, though. But then, I dressed up as the Riddler last Halloween, so I'm biased. ;)

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

To those defending The Dark Knight Rises as a great title I call BS on you.
Your just so quick to defend it. Batman's 'rise' doesn't have to be reflected strictly in the title ala Begins.
See we can do it also. :p

This just made me laugh (which was probably the intent).

BTW, I didn't mean to offend anybody with the way I worded my last post. :):p

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

I would have preferred:

Batman
The Caped Crusader

But apart from those two, this is fine.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

I think the "Caped Crusader" nickname has probably gotten too associated with the 60s Adam West series for them to seriously consider it as a title. I think Batman: Dark Detective (the title of the mini-series that Steve Englehart & Marshall Rogers did a few years back) would make a good movie title, though. Does anyone else remember back before Frank Miller, when Batman was called the Darknight Detective all the time?

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

Actually, if they had to keep "The Dark Knight" in the title, it would sound cooler to use "The Dark Knight Detective", since that was one of his official nicknames in the comics. I guess it wouldn't really fit perfectly, though, unless someone in the movie was also hunting Batman (so it would have double meaning referring to Batman and his enemy) and the only person I could see taking that role is The Riddler.

That sounds like a sequel I would really like to see. :techman:

Maybe he could investigate why there are already 5 pages about a friggin' movie title.

Upcoming next: Chris Nolan sneezes. 20 pages of discussion in 1 hour. ;)

OMG Christopher Nolan's sneeze was the best sneeze ever!!!! It was SO much better than any other sneeze we've ever had!!!! :D

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

Lame title. I worry that it will become a formulaic title now as the series progresses. What next? The Dark Knight Sleeps?

That was 50yrs ago. It's not on DVD and I'd be surprised that its playing in many, if any, markets in reruns now. Seriously, if that is at all a reason its a dumb one. I recall all the fuss about "No one is going to know what/who The Dark Knight is" when that title was announced. Amazing what proper marketing can do.

Proper marketing would once again let people know this movie(Caped Crusader or Shadow of the Bat) is the followup to Nolan's The Dark Knight.

Personally, I found the sneeze cliché and pedestrian.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

The Dark Knight Rises would've been a great title if the previous film wasn't called The Dark Knight. Now it just seems a little odd.

Not an official reason, AFAIK. Just theorizing. But it's true that ever since Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns, the instances of Batman being called the Caped Crusader or the Darknight Detective have gone way down.

Agreed. The James Bond movies have never had the character's name as a part of the official title, and they've been doing pretty well for the last 50 years.
