The Dark Knight Rises Anticipation Station

Tom Hardy should have bulked up to closer to 240 or 250 for the role. The character's supposed to be HUGE, really closer to 300-350, but you can't expect a regular actor to bulk up that much, but he's still small for the role. I don't care how built he is, 200lb. just isn't that unusually huge. Perhaps the mask will make the man.

Tom Hardy bulked up enough in my opinion. One of the reasons why Bane looks the way he does in the comics is due to the drug Venom, which we don't know if it will be used in the film. Hardy looks like a beast to me, he looks like a realistic version of Bane, which is what Nolan most likely intended.

I think he's the perfect size for this kind of a villain in this kind of movie. He needs to be able to move around and fight, and if he's to huge he won't be able to.

There are big football players on the defensive or offensive lines who are also very fast, too. Again, I don't think 300 pounds was realistic to expect from a typical actor, but a 240-260 range would have made him even more obviously a physical match for Batman.

Hardy isn't that tall mind you. If he were 6'2" with the build he bulked up to he would have been approaching 250 easily.

Looks to be about the same size, though I imagine the camera will be used to add a few inches whenever possible for effect. Bale isn't especially tall either as I recall. It was the subject of a very awkward morning show interview when he was doing press for Batman Begins.

I swear to God, if you people turn this thread into another James Bond continuity argument, I will turn this thread around right now.

In other words, talk about The Dark Knight Rises. If you don't have anything to say about that film, well, then, you don't need to post, do you?

Over-react much?

Go to your room. :p

Yeah, Hardy's pretty much got the ideal build for Nolan's vision of Bane. If he were 7'5", 400 pounds and wearing a luchador mask, he'd look fucking ridiculous. I'm not totally sold on the costuming (Bane's big winter coat just looks a bit goofy), but outside of that, he's fine.

One of the reasons why Bane looks the way he does in the comics is due to the drug Venom, which we don't know if it will be used in the film.

The official character biography says that Bane's mask pumps him full of painkillers, so I'm guessing Venom won't be playing a part in this.

I pretty clearly wrote "around 250", not "400," and said nothing about a luchador mask.

Again, 200lb. just doesn't stand out that much. For a guy, it's only about 25-30 lbs. above average. Yes, I get that it's about more than pounds, it's about muscles and look, but still, 250 conveys "physical threat to Batman" a lot more than 200 does.

Still, the shaved head, the mask, and build still make him look like a badass. I'm not too concerned.

It might have been interesting to see Batman versus Bane as a size mismatch in the tradition of Balboa versus Drago.

In the prologue, he breaks out of handcuffs simply by snapping the chain. Venom or no, his strength is superhuman.
