The Dark Knight dvd thread

I saw this in theaters and liked it well enough, even though I don't much care for the Batman character. Does the 2nd disc have anything about this video diary that I head Heath Ledger kept in a hotel room or something? I'd sure like to see that. One of my friends told me something about this-apparently it's what Ledger kept while working on his Joker performance or something. -Dan

Fat chance, the extras on the 2-disc are a joke. They don't even mention that Heath Ledger died or a stuntman was killed or that Katie Holmes was fired. But like I said Christopher Nolan did mention what a shame it was that an IMAX camera got smashed.

Watched all the extra's..........damn the extra's for Batman (1989) and Batman Returns Special edition dvds are so much superior to this

or that Katie Holmes was fired.

fired? I thought she was unavailable.

Well it's open to debate, but the studio claim she was "unavailable" while a lot of people think they fired her because of the bad press she and Tom Cruise are getting. At any rate, a character being recast is the kind of obvious thing you'd expect to be talked about on the DVD extras.

And I think Katie Holmes was good in the first one. Better than Maggie Gyllenhaall at least!

According to IMDB(yeah I know) Nolan wrote Rachael specifically for her in "Begins". It was hers to lose.

My parents and I watched "The Dark Knight" my mom kept saying Gyllenhaall was ugly. Granted in a certain light she can look a bit "harsh" and in another light she looks okay.

Jerry Seinfeld- She's like two-face

Oh hell now, Maggie was so much better. If only she was in the previous movie

Maggie brought a lot more warmth and emotion to role and her age is a better fit for Bale, too. She was far superiror to Holmes.

I just can't see Katie Holmes delivering the lines and emotion that Maggie did in her warehouse scene.

I agree. She can look fairly harsh in some light, I suspect she is or was a heavy smoker which has put a lot of age on her face. But over all I think she's very cute and spunky and has a great figure/body.

I mean that's just cute. :)

But, as I said, her range and talents as an actor are far superior to Holmes' and she brought a lot of character and personality to the Rachel role. Holmes wouldn't have been able to pull off the warehouse scene. No way.

Gyllenhaal has sharp chin syndrome.

Her and Reese Witherspoon.

Damn them and their dangerous, sharp little chins. You could put an eye out with them things.

Or puncture a scrotum in some situations.

I agree with someone above or somewhere else that when the auditor guy conftonts Fox on the Tumbler's plans. Fox too quickly and easily gives up that Wayne is Batman rather than just suggesting that Wayne is providing Batman with equipment.

I only got the two-disk version because I wanted the sweet little steelbook case they were selling at FYE.

To me the short docs on disk two looked more like previews of a 'Making of' special than anything else. So I'm betting in a year or so the bastards are going to put out a Special Deluxe Edition with proper extras.

I'm going to wait a bit before getting the single disk version, in part because Christmas is rather tight on expenses right now. No doubt a better, improved, multi-disk version will be out before long. I really do enjoy behind the scenes docs on these films, and the less-than-enthusiastic comments about the 2-disk now ... that's more than enough to convince me to pass.

Nolan wanted Holmes back and expected her back. The story is she picked Mad Money over The Dark Knight. Sort of like how Chevy Chase turned down American Beauty to do.... something else.

no I bet she was fired, she was horrible in Batman Begins

This is like a sports talk radio caller's line.

I'm really pissed on the extras on this disc. The biggest movie of the year and all we get are some fake news clips, trailers, and a slide-show commentary?

Bull. Shit.

I'm not "sorry" I bought it, it's an awesome movie, but I'm totally expecting a post-Oscars mega-edition.

I mean, Heath Ledger died making this movie and has a widely acclaimed performance. You'd think that at the very least there'd be a tribute to him somewhere on this thing.

You know they're going to double dip. And when they do, they won't carry over all the features from the current disc.

The current extras suck according to all the reviews so I would think not carrying over the features would be a good because that means more dvd space for better extras.

Correct. Why would Nolan have Rachel such a big part in the story if he wanted to fire her, especially since it was Nolan who wanted Holmes for Batman Begins.
