But, really people, we sincerely need to get over throwing out the "But because of the Time War, that couldn't have happened....Susan...Genesis of the Daleks didn't....Romana E-Space...President...McGann wasn't...etc., etc." stuff everytime someone references the Classic Series and/or the classic Daleks. Suffice it to say, the entire history of Doctor Who happened until we're implicitly told it did not. Per the Classic Series, the Daleks invaded Earth and Susan was left there. Per the modern run, The Time War has the Daleks leave to go fight a bigger war. They and the Time Lords were wiped out. It both did and did not happen. Welcome to the lovely paradox of the new Whoverse... :thumbsup:

I also subscribe to the "wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey" explanation. Makes the most sense to me.

It's one of the few from the period that still stands up today, mainly because it concentrates on character and human survival than SF concepts and gadgets...

I think that's why I'm enjoying it so much.

It's also the part used in the pre-credit sequence of The Five Doctors. It was nice -- William Hartnell had passed away years before and yet here he was...he did indeed "one day...come back."

I just assumed past Dalek events would be time locked. I always assumed the Time Lords were running on one time... so the Doctor could leave for thirty years, but he'd have to return after those thirty years, not twenty or even before he left.

So the Daleks may be the same as it has been mentioned they do have a regard for 'the rules'. I'm not sure why I sidetracked... but somehow it was all time lock connected in my head. Or maybe I've been awake too long again...

Of course you can create a time field in which it's safe to travel back in time and create a paradox by changing/doing anything you like. The problem is that the more you tamper with it, the higher the Doom levels get. But that was on Futurama. It may not apply, or make much sense.

Edit: I was too sleepy to notice there was a page two and only saw the quote when I posted. I've actually pre-prepared my retirement speech using that as a base. I am a big fat nerd.

I got Dalek Invasion of Earth last year and, a few moments aside, it's really good. The cliffhanger with Ian in the Dalek bomb is great, as are the Daleks wandering around a deserted London giving the Hitler salute.

Very adult and dark in tone, and very good (aside from perhaps the Dalek 'pet'.

Yes I know, hence why I was querying which side the'd have been on.

On the one hand can't see the Daleks feeling they need aliens to help them, but the Sontarans did invade Galifray so can't see the Timelords being too happy to have them on their side either...

Probably explains why they weren't allowed to take part!

I just got this one on DVD back in January. It's a great story, and the Doctor's farewell speech at the end is brilliant. Overall, I think I like the first Dalek story a little better, but The Dalek Invasion of Earth deserves its reputation as a classic.
