The CW - One Step Closer To Death

If Veronica Mars had sold well in the foreign market, Warner would have gone to bat for it like it did for Supernatural when Dawn Ostroff wanted to cancel it before this season. Unfortunately Warner didn't see the dollar signs internationally for VM, so it let the show die. :( No syndication dollars to fight for as a return on its investetn.

At this point Kristin Bell and especially Tina Majorino would not fit into the CW's plans to attract airheaded teenage girls. They don't fit the OMFG image. The suits want Blair and Serena from Gossip Girl. They want Girlicious and The Pussycat Dolls.

Yeah but again this is something I can't fault Dawn for. She loved this show and kept it around far, far longer then its ratings deserved. And if its ratings were better absolutely she would have loved to have it on the schedule to this day.

Considering the typical ratings decline facing all networks VM had fallen in ratings and demo to what Reaper is doing for this season. Thats without a strike taking a huge chunk out the season (and the lose of viewers that created above the norm). And without the large increase of DVR viewers.

Hell I have pulled the ratings for this season for the CW's hour long with total viewers, demo in adults 18-38 and adults 18-49. And things like One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl score in the demos overall (not just the female young adult but the overall average between male and female better demos then things like our beloved Supernatural. I mean Gossip Girl averages a better adults 18-49 with an average of 600,000 fewer viewers. And it absolutely destroys it in the adult 18-38. And One Tree Hill (don't get me started which I have watched both and I do think Gossip Girls is a better program by far) for just averages 20,000 fewer viewers easily beats Supernatural in adult 18-49 and wipes the floor with us in adults 18-38.

I totally agree. They're just waiting. Like I said, Warner wants its Smallville, One Tree Hill, and Supernatural to have plenty of episodes for their syndication packages. I suspect Warner already considers the network a failure or it would be pumping more money into it.

I was reading something (an article about WB's reaction to the CW0 and the two biggest things that have shocked, surprised or upset them is the lose of affiliates (Which absolutely has to be the biggest factor in effecting everything) and the poor marketing of the CW.

And the marketing is the single biggest thing that they could have chosen different (and still can). And while I do think the OMFG was better then almost all the promotion work of the CW (and for that matter UPN, but still worse then the WB marketing), they need money to reach people. And I don't think either party is willing to spend the money at this point. I think both have realized that it wont happen. I think they are going to see if they can hold the line with this coming season. If its stable (or absolutely hard to believe improves) they might change their mind and be a little more open to the slight possibility of improving things.

Isnt upn the network that gave us voyager? Scifi gave us farscape and bsg and stargate :)
UPN did air Star Trek: Voyager, yes. However, what exactly is your point in referencing those other shows and The Sci-Fi Channel in this thread?

(Showtime, by the way, "gave us" Stargate SG-1, not Sci-Fi.)

I don't like to be happy about others' failures but in this case the shows on that channel are so damn terrible and IQ lowering (barring, from what I gather, Supernatural- that's one I should check out) that it is probably better for the public if the whole channel just went away.

Oh come now. The students at Beverly Hills High circa '08/'09 will be deep, sensitive, thoughtful students who worry about the presidential race and eschew Girlicious CDs in favor of Charlotte Church's operatic recordings. :p

Supernatural's a cool show. You can catch up on DVD or iTunes.:bolian:

"Dude, I just realized that Lex rhymes with sex!"
"Ohmigod, we totally should use that in an ad! The kids'll love it!"

<**snip** Poster>

**Smacks head**

I wonder why the CW didn't decide to do a Green Arrow spin off. They could've put Smallville to the pasture.

The CW is pathetic and aiming towards mindless teenage/young women is the stupidest plan ever.

Look at the history of FOX television, and you'll see FOX tried that very tactic in the mid-90's with a lot of dreck (Medicine Ball, anyone?). Advertisers are convinced that the 18-29 crowd is "the target" audience for entertainment, when in actuality, those people are either out screwing off or trying to finish college. And to tell me that a 20 year old has more purchasing power than I do is laughable.
