I really, really hate people who spend so much time bitching about this stuff. Guy doesn't like Tim Hortons coffee? I have a thought.

DON'T GO THERE!!!

If this dude continually came into my store bitching about the product and nothing we did pleased him, I'd ban him, too.

The manager mentions continually bothering the employees, too. Something tells me this guy couldn't be made happy, had this STUPID FUCKING NOTION about the customer always being right, kept bitching and bitching to the point of being an annoyance, and now he's hoping for money and/or 15 minutes of fame by going; "I'm sweet and innocent, I just want my coffee *sob, sob* I'm being treated so badly *cry*." Contacted head office 'cause you don't like the coffee? Don't people have better things to do?

And what about the millions of Canadians who obviously love Tim Hortons? Maybe, I don't know, you just don't like their product? What, should they fucking tailor make it for you?

QFT!!! I love it when I have a complaint and when customer service people are assisting me I'll say, "Oh, crap! At what point am I supposed to scream, yell, and demand to see the manager? I think I screwed this up. Should I start over with jumping up and down?" Often times, the rep gets wild eyed and begs me not to until he/she realizes I am being facetious and will breathe a sigh of relief after I flash a big, cheesy grin. That person then goes out of the way to give me superior service :techman:

A really stupid story, but I found this piece of wisdom in the article comments.

"All that noise over decaff coffee...., what's the point of drinking that? . It's like paying for a hooker and only holding her hand."

For fuck's sake...I don't like McDonald's coffee, guess what I don't go back and bitch about if I buy the odd cup. If want go coffee on the road I'll stop at a Pilot or a Weigels. Otherwise I'll brew it at home. But shit, I don't go back to a place that I don't like and complain, I just don't shop at that location anymore.

I think I met this asshole's brother when I worked at the theater.

Every Friday for the 2PM show we'd have this guy walk in a bitch about fresh popcorn. So we'd always run off a fresh batch, we'd even hold his bucket under the hopper so it went straight in the bucket and didn't mix in with the older corn, we let him watch as we popped it fresh. And he still bitch that it wasn't fresh, it tasted like it had been in the bin all day. He would get to the state of throwing a tantrum like a child; crying, screaming, the whole 9 yards. We never did figure out what that fucker wanted.

When they shut that location down and opened a newer, bigger, fancier one, up the road he tried his crap there too. Last I heard he ate a ban when the new GM of the place was working the concession stand and the guy started his crap on him. Story goes that he poured a bunch of kernels in a cup, handed it to the guy and told him to get out.

Talk to anyone who has worked in Retail, and I'll bet more than once they've put up with some jackass who has spouted out, "THE CUSTOMER IS *ALWAYS RIGHT*"

And typically it's the one spouting it of that are dead wrong and/or wanting you to break a law or a store rule that'll land your ass in hot water.

Sadly, this is often true. I've always treated abusive customers like small children. They get one warning to amend their behavior and then they're hung up on, asked to leave or the police are called, depending on the situation.

One of my first bosses in customer service won my undying loyalty when he simply told a guest "I'm sorry, sir, but it's obvious that we're not going to be able to satisfy you here. I'm calling a cab to take you someplace you'll find more to your liking."

He also taught me another one that's served me well over the years when I'm approached by a rude person spouting profanity from the get-go: "Would you care to re-phrase that so that you get a polite answer?" ;)

I want to find the person who said "the customer is always right and then shove his own head up his ass. People take that phrase will too literaly and seriously.

This guy is an asshole, I've dealt with people like him people who think they're "helping me" by giving me "suggestions." Which, hey, I'm all for, I've listened to some of them and implimented some of them. But the delivery system is what is important.

I had a guy once who insisted to me that I should move our lunchmeat to the other end of the store near the other refrigerated foods. He ranted at me for 20 minutes on how it made no sense for the two refrigerated sections to be on opposite ends of the store, how it messed up his shopping because he had to get the lunchmeat last so it stayed cool, etc. etc. etc. After that conversation I had to hear about it every time he was in the store after that, he'd make it a point to walk past the counter and shout into the shop, "Here I go! Walking to the other end of the store to get my lunchmeat!"

Sigh. Yeah, like I'm going to rearrange the entire store, the entire refer system of the building to get the lunchmeat on the other end of the building.

Know why decaf coffee tastes burnt, asswipe article guy? Because they roast the hell out of it to make it decaff. Drop your balls and drink caffeinated coffee.

And getting a lawyer to get permission to go back in there? Not going to happen. Private propety they can ban you if they want.

And now he's brewing his coffee at home. It's a win-win. If I went to Burger King and didn't like their hamburgers the first 15 times I would probably stop going there.

But that's the funny part. He's brewing at home, which he tries to get a jab at Tim Horton's by saying how it's cheaper, *YET* he still wants to be able to patronize a Tim Horton's.

This guy is nothing more than a Class A Attention Whore.

Sounds [reads] like he's one of those people that just can't take being told he can't have something. A spoiled asshole that thinks that he can say or do what he wants and no one can smack him on the nose for it.

Yep. People like he would tell my brother (who worked in retail), "I'm going to tell all of my friends and family not to shop here." He'd respond, "Good. If they're anything like you, we don't want them shopping here." They'd get pissed and leave in a huff; however, he knew they'd be back inside of a week.

I think it's a safe bet that "the customer" is neither always right, nor an asshole.

I always loved people like that, be it online on in the real world. They make a big "Fuck you, I'm leaving" moment, and then a week later they come slinking back like nothing at all happened.

I agree. You know, if you don't like a retail establishment - if you think you didn't get your money's worth, ask for a refund. And either way, just don't go back there again.

When I was managing restaurants, we had a few of these people who thought that everyone who worked for the restaurant was there to be their own personal slave. And they treated them as such. When they would get called on this, they usually start with loud, abusive remarks and/or cursing. Loud enough to be heard throughout the dining area. To which, I would reply in just as loud of a voice "This company doesn't pay me enough to take this kind of abuse, therefore these people are also not paid enough to take your abuse. GET OUT and don't come back."

We noticed that as well. I'd laugh and just take the attitude that that was fine, but if they tried anything, they would be tossed out again.

True story:
My oldest brother was Sheriff of Mineral County, Nevada in the late-80's/early-90's. Sometimes, if an accident call came over the police scanner, he'd head out to direct traffic or assist the Deputies on the scene. There were times he was directing an accident while he was in civilian clothes when some loudmouth would approach and start screaming orders, asking who he was, etc. He'd say, "Get in your car and wait. We're busy." Loudmouth would ask who the hell he thought he was, and my brother would say, "Get back in your car or you're going to jail." Third time, he'd tell a Deputy, "Take him to jail" at which point the loudmouth would find himself in the back of a police car. No charges filed, but the message was quite clear.

Within a few days, someone would invariably come to the Sheriff's office to want to file a complaint, which typically involved the aforementioned loudmouth saying, "I want to talk to you about one of your Deputies" until he recognized my brother, who would then be in uniform. He'd ask, "OK, which one." The response? "Um, nevermind. Sorry to bother you."

Just want to say I enjoy food-service work, except for the pay. That aside...

I hated, hated when you'd get regulars that would treat staff like they were there to be be walked all over and had to take abuse. I've seen a lot of great cooks, wonderful hostess, over the years burn out cause of assholes that didn't know that you get more flies with honey than with vinegar.

I assume that Canada, like the United States, has laws against discrimination based on race, color, religion, and so on. But there's no law that says you can't discriminate against assholes.

I think it's a safe bet that "the customer" is neither always right, nor an asshole.

True. I do feel fortunate that I have had some wonderful customer experiences to balance out the terrible ones. What's really nice for me is that I could get bad customers all day, and one good customer will perk me right up.
