The corniest film you inexplicably love

How's THIS for corny: Infra-Man.

Any movie where the big baddie is named "Princess Dragon Mom" is OK in my book. :guffaw:

Didn't Universal take issue with the some of the phrases in that trailer, namely the term "bionics" (and arguably the number six million), believing they infringed upon their property, "The Six Million Dollar Man"? I do recall Universal made a case against the US distributors of Godzilla, demanding a film be titled something other than "Godzilla vs. the Bionic Monster" (better known as MechaGodzilla).

Not that I'm aware of.

I mean, when the film was being marketed in the US, they did try to capitalize on The Six Million Dollar Man, but AFAIK Universal did not have a problem with it.

From the IMDB comments:

"One year after its Chinese release, Joseph Brenner released the film in the U.S., re-titling it simply "Infra-Man" (or "Inframan") and also creating the tagline on its U.S. theatrical release poster "The Man Beyond Bionics!", which was an attempt to capitalize upon the success of the TV series The Six Million Dollar Man (1973), which was on U.S. network television at the time."

But I don't think Universal itself raised a fuss over it.

Cactus Jack is pretty corny in the way it rips off road runner and pretty funny at times

I used to love Cactus Jack and Doc Savage Man of Bronze but I doubt I've seen either of them this century and I'm kinda wary of going back to them, in my head they exist as very pleasant memories and maybe that's how they should stay (see also The Monster of Boggy Creek, that film utterly terrified me as a kid and I made the mistake of re-watching it a year or so back!)

Oh - King Kong Escapes. A Japanese monster movie with a really bad Kong costume fighting the robot "MechaniKong" version of himself. Made bearable by a fun cast of humans, including manly leading man Rhodes Reason, the lovely Mie Hama as a seductive enemy spy, The born-to-be-an-evil-mastermind Hideyo Amamoto as the evil Dr. Who (no relation), and the absolutely adorable Linda Miller as the love interest. My wife hates these kinds of silly movies, but she said what the hell, and sat and watched it with me. She said yeah, that was silly, but fun.

Demolition Man. I've no idea what Nigel Hawthorne, an actual proper actor who could act, thought he was doing signing up to this pile of tat. I'm assuming he wanted some landscaping done in his garden or something. But tat or not (and it is) I love it, Stallone and Snipes are so ridiculous you can't not admire the gusto with which they attack their roles.

My guilty pleasure corny all time favorite has to be The Fifth Element. Honorable mention goes to Monty Python & The Holy Grail . If I'm sick and need something to watch when blanketed up on the couch, they are my go to's..

I love DM. But as regards Hawthorne, the explanation is very simple. He wanted to reprise his stage role of George III for the big screen adaptation of the play that was then in pre-production. The studio wanted someone more recognisable to American audiences and were considering Anthony Hopkins. So Hawthorne was advised to do something that would raise his American profile and this fitted the bill. And of course, he was able to reprise the role and get an Oscar nomination IIRC. Though they still had to change the title of the play from The Madness of George III to The Madness of King George, so people wouldn’t think it was a sequel…

And he really hated making it as I recall. Stallone and Snipes were at their most egotistical!

That’s right! I think I read about that shortly after his death. Pretty shrewd move, actually.

If you REALLY want corny movies, any of the Ernest movies. Very Stupid, but funny.
Ernest Rides Again
Ernest Saves Christmas
Ernest: Scared Stupid
Ernest Joins the Army
Etc etc

I'm rewatching "Showtime", with Robert de Niro and Eddie Murphy. Good movie, and William Shatner is hilarious in a supporting role.
