Spoilers The Controversial Star Wars Opinion Thread

I like The Last Jedi too. I like the whole Sequel Trilogy almost as much as The Original Trilogy.

The ST is to the OT what Robot Monster is to 2001: A Space Odyssey in terms of storytelling strength, vision, artistic merit, etc....

I liked the when they came out (I was 8 to 14), but as I got older I started disliking them, and now just find them completely boring.

I've tried rewatching them on like Star Wars day and such, but I just can't get through any of them.

I like Thrawn, but in general I view the Zahn trilogy as decent military sci-fi but awful Star Wars books.

Frankly, I'm not a fan of Thrawn. I've always disliked both him and Cad Bane. The two of them seemed like Discount Palpatine or Darth Maul, but without the Force abilities. Let me put it in another way. Both seemed like villainous Gary Stus.

When they introduced Cad Bane I couldn't take him seriously, partly due to the Duros bounty hunters in KOTOR who were complete pushovers.

But Thrawn and Cad Bane are two very different kinds of characters from Palpatine and Darth Maul. Their motivations, backgrounds, and actions are inherently different from Palpatine's and Darth Maul's.

Much like Mary Sue, Gary Stu is almost always overused and meaningless. I'm so sick of both terms.

I loathe Cad Bane. Thrawn is just...OK. He isn't the end all of Star Wars villains, and he isn't the worst either. He's overhyped, overplayed and treated as the best of them all.

Bane, for his overconfidence, at least dies for his hubris. That was the only good part of that character. Maul I felt bad for in the end. Bane I just was glad he was dead.

And that's fair. I get a lot of people don't like Bane (I love him, the rascally bastard) although I am surprised by some people not liking Thrawn. I've never read the novels (either version) but I loved what I saw in Rebels but perhaps a lot of that has to do with Lars Mikkelsen's magnificent performance.

Either way, my point stands that the two of them aren't anything like Palpatine or Darth Maul.

I got the sense that Bane might not actually be dead, since that blinky beepy thing started going off in that final shot. But we shall see.

Sovereign, Akira, Defiant. LOTS of the first two, and only two Defiants..?

I mean, I can see the rough similarities. Maul the muscle and badass in combat and Palpatine that constant calculator who can't be defeated.

But, yeah, no Thrawn for me. That he is being included in current productions is...disappointing, to be charitable.

I can dream.

He's a loose end that needs tying up.
And? That's supposed to what? Make me happy? That he appeared in Rebels is annoying. That people are demanding him makes him frustrating and will lead to further disappointment down the road.

In my humble opinion. Loose end that needs tying up doesn't make it good.

^ It would explain how so much hot chocolate, an Earth beverage, ended up in the Star Wars galaxy in the old Expanded Universe books.
