The College Football Thread

Oh I have no doubt Newton's numbers are worthy of the winning spot.... it's simply that I doubt enough people will vote him due to the allegations and the whole "smoke vs[.] fire" argument. I don't thin[k] I would vote for him unless there was some corroboration for his side of the story[.]

You may well be correct. My judgment of his character would leave me in a genuine quandary.

An ... alum? No. But I've lived in the Columbus area for quite awhile and so have become a fan.
That must be what I remembered.

Gee's comments were stupid and ill-conceived, nothing worth getting into a snit over.
I enjoyed TCU's response, something to the effect of, "Anytime, anywhere, Ohio State. Let's tee it up." [Frankly, it'd be an intriguing match-up, but I'd take the Frogs on a neutral field—well, this year.]

He was attempting to defend the BCS and I think he just put his foot in the mouth. Gee is a good man, affable and very supportive. He was wrong to say what he did about TCU and BSU and their conferences, particularly when you see the preseason games that the Big 10 and SEC play regularly.
At least OSU took on Miami (and not the Ohio variant) in the Horseshoe earlier this season. That's something. I think Penn State played 'Bama, too.

Boise St had better not drop the ball today, because right now it's looking as if they are going to slide into the BCS championship game. Bama is leading Auburn 21-0 midway through the second quarter

God almighty, I went into my sales meetings at three this afternoon and heard Bama comfortably ahead 24-0. I come home, turn on the computer just now and WHAT.THE.HELL. HAPPENED?

Seriously, that's not a rhetorical question. What happened? Can someone fill me in? Bama's quarterback went down; is that right? I don't need to see shit like this on the eve of the Bedlam match up. The thought gives me nightmares. Bama must be sick.

They should be.

Cam Newton is what happened. He ought to be hands down in the lead for the Hypesman after today's performance. Bama committed a mistake early in the send half, when coverage was blow. After that... .Newton had his passing game working so well Bama couldn't do much to it.

But Newton's bought and paid for and Reggie Bush is fresh on the voters' minds. I wouldn't vote for Cam when you know it'll just have to be given back. He should be ineligible to play. He's talented as hell, yes, but ineligible players shouldn't win the Heisman. There's no way in the world he didn't accept money. Too much smoke. Get along to the NFL, Cam, and leave probation in your wake. That's what's coming. That being said, he'll probably be very successful in the NFL. I agree that he's supremely talented and--if there weren't the allegations--I'd vote for him for the Heisman.

But he was paid for and I can't see the Heisman voters wanting to put themselves in that position. I'm sure they were hoping very much for Bama to win and bail them out of the dilemma.

I know... with the whole Reggie Bush embarrassment so fresh in folks minds, it's liable to have a trickle down effect on any candidate with a hint of impropriety. My evaluation above is strictly from his on field performance and nothing more.

I hear what you're saying. Strictly on field, yes, absolutely. Unfortunately, it's not just that with this situation.

That's what I'm afraid of. The idealist in me, the kid who loves what's good about college football, wants there to be a clean bill of health. But I've become cynical enough to believe that there probably is solid reason to be concerned. The revenue generating college sports are becoming little more than semi-pro.

And get rid of the silly 1-and-done rule in basketball. It serves no useful purpose anymore (oops, wrong sport)

BTW... we came pretty close to a TCU / Boise St national championship today, assuming they both win out. Oregon as having serious trouble with Arizona, but they're pulling away now (48-22 midway thru Q4).

I hate what Boise State fans have turned into... so take that!!!!! No National Championship for you!!!

Didn't know you were a Don Draper fan, Starbreaker. Hell, I had to get up and go in to work early this morning for sales meetings. I went to bed early. I had no idea Boise had blown it until right now. Now, Oklahoma State just needs to not beat themselves. Their offensive line is better than OU's. Everything's in place. Just have confidence and get the job done, guys.

OU/Okla St is at 8pm tonight right Dorian? I am going to park myself right in front of the TV for that.

Yes. That's correct. 8 o'clock eastern time. breathes deeply. If the offensive does what it's done all year and gives Weeden time to throw, everything will be fine. The time to grab the future is now.

Solid, solid, SOLID win by the Buckeyes over the Wolverines today. Considering the temps, it was smooth sailing. Denard Robinson found out what life is like against a real defense, though he really is going to be great if they can keep him healthy. Pryor played such a smart game and made some truly impressive plays today both in the air and on the ground.

Anyone watching my Badgers tear Northestern apart?

UW has scored 153 points in their last 7 quarters at home!
