The College Football Thread

... I just want to remind everyone that the #7 Oregon Ducks take on the #13 Oregon State Beavers for the Rose Bowl invitation tonight. 9pm Eastern, 6pm Pacific on ESPN.

Thanks! I might well have forgotten! :techman:

3:00 minutes to go in the 1st qtr, and it's already Oregon 14, Oregon St 10. Masoli just completed a picture perfect 53 yd TD pass to the tight end Male. Both of those guys are superb. This is going to be a wild game!

Well, we're off tomorrow morning, heading to Los Angeles for the USC/Arizona game. Too bad it's essentially meaningless, but hopefully we'll have a good time and a Trojan victory to close out the regular season.

See you all on Monday!

:techman:

Rose Bowl! Rose Bowl! Rose Bowl! :)

That was a heckuva game last night, one of the very best all season long! The Ducks defense had been battered in several spots but stood up and came through when it counted most. The Rodgers brothers for Oregon St are something special. It's hard to recall a back with more balance and strength for his size than Jacquizz. And the WR (Johnny?) made some tremendous plays to make catches... until the 4th and 15.

Masoli was night quite as sharp as I had seen him before, but he showed why he's considered to be so versatile. The biggest concern with him is how loosely he carries the ball. That's a problem considering how many times they've fumbled this season. Even so, the man is dangerous no matter whee on the field. Just like LeTwins - Legarette Blount and LaMichael James. That's an impressive 1-2 punch at RB. James impresses me more with his strength and drive. Okay, so I'm still a bit miffed at how Oregon just gave Blount a slap on the wrist earlier after the Boise St game. Blount seems to be cool though. He's stepped up his game in every facet and I'd have him on my team any day.

It's gonna be a wild Rose Bowl. Ohio State hasn't faced an offense this good and diverse, and Oregon will be tested against the best defense they've faced all year.

Are you ready for a war, Mallory?

ETA: Good to see you, Adm Bonz! Haven't seen much of you in these parts for quite some time!

Thanks guys. It was genuinely great football game. And I'd be saying that even if the Ducks had lost. The crowd at Autzen did their usual good job, as evidenced by the number of false start penalties the Beavers got called for. The defense held Jaquizz Rodgers to under 100 yards rushing. And once again the Ducks emphasis on conditioning paid off. They've won more than one game by simply wearing out the opposing team, which was noticeable in the second half last night. The Rose Bowl ought to be pretty good this year.

The revenge factor for the Beavers is going to be overwhelming next year. This is the second year in a row that the Ducks have knocked them out of the Rose Bowl in the final game of the season.

See you in Pasadena Neroon!

Bad news for those of us who care about the D2 playoffs: four Grand Valley State players, including two starters (one is their all-time leading rusher), have been suspended for tomorrow's game.

Not exactly the backdrop I was hoping for when my Carson-Newman Eagles play them on national television tomorrow.

Getting ready to watch Cincinnati vs Pittsburgh... college ball, not pros, and it's lookin' great! 30 deg, championship atmosphere, man how great wold it be to be in that crowd?

ETA: Absofragginlutely amazing game between Cincinnati and Pitt!!! I feel bad for the Pitt place holder on that missed extra point, but that's part of the game. Some questionable calls by the refs but overall they did well. In the end.... the Bearcat offense just would not be denied. Do yourselves a favor and Google Mardy Gilyard. Nice, inspirational story

It definitely was an entertaining game today. A pretty high scoring affair. Carson-Newman played well, and clearly has a lot of speed. The weather definitely seemed to be a factor, with Carson-Newman turning the ball over a few times.

I'm glad Grand Valley is heading back to the national championship game again this year. Go Lakers!

Bama wins, Boise state wins, Cincinnati wins, and I believe TCU won. So now a minimum of four undefeated teams, hmmm? Wonder who'll be declared number 1 if they all end undefeated.

Man, I feel sorry for Digits tonight. I don't think he's very used to seeing Southern Cal lose at home like that. I'm glad Alabama won too. Not so much because maybe the Tebow-mania might let up for a little bit, but because my Dad retired to outside Birmingham in the 70's and I spent a lot of time with him and Bama football before he passed away.

I thought Saint Tebow would will his team to victory by his Christ like goodness. Bama's victory was sweet. If I get tired of Tebow mania here in Oklahoma, I can only imagine how sick of it they must be in Bama. Their own quarterback is undefeated as a starter but they're subjected to the near masturbatory Tebow praise nonetheless. It must have been sickening. Florida going down must be sweet as honey for them.

Damn, the Pitt holder must be feeling like shit tonight. :vulcan:

Yeah, it was a bit ugly early on, but it turned into a fun game. I'd like to blame it entirely on the weather, but I know the players won't be. The size of Grand Valley's line was just too much, and that runner of yours is a beast. Kudos to your Lakers, I hope they take down the winner of the CalPenn/NWMizzou winner. Eagles will get another shot next year.

Can you believe that was the first time, in the 30+ years of their current coach, that Carson-Newman has played in a snow game? Ice yes, snow no.

It 's a wonderful thing that Florida lost. But an Alabama victory is never, ever, a good thing, and its bitterness is only tempered by the sweetness of a Florida loss.

Now I look forward to rooting for whoever plays against Bama and Florida in the BCS.

Are you watching the Big 12 Championship game? Texas is clinging to a one point lead. Don't count out TCU in that title game just yet.

EDIT--oh gosh, just when I type that, Colt McCoy is finally coming to life. I'm not in love with the SEC; it's just that the Tebow worship in the media was so bloody annoying it made me want to retch.

And it's Texas in the championship game against Alabama. Hunter Lawrence is the favorite son in the state of Texas tonight!

Whoever wins the Alabama/Texas game.

Texas wins as the clock runs out against a Nebraska team that didn't have an offense worth mentioning.

Do they deserve to face Alabama? Personally I'd rank TCU above them.
