That's why I watch comedians and Let's Plays. Those are more fun than most "comedies" out there nowadays. Lower Decks does just well enough to keep me engaged. But, that's mostly characters.

You know, I've misread that as "Lick it if you like it" and all I thought was "Yeah, that's basically the secret to a happy marriage!"
See, that's why the scene is funny to me. When a menacing energy being shows up on Star Trek to make trouble for the ship, we don't expect one of the crew to instantly pounce on it and try to shove the thing into a canister. It's both a funny inversion of the tropes, and it sells the idea that Mariner is something of a worldly person who has seen a thing or two in her day. To her a menacing energy being equals automatic trouble and she reacts to it accordingly.
Exactly. And Mariner is a total mission log reader/history buff. She would know such beings are usually trouble.

Okay, but you just explained the joke, and I agree that’s what they were going for, but did it make you laugh? Was it funny, or did you just know that it was supposed to be funny? And no, I’m not opposed necessarily to a certain amount of slapstick, lord knows I love Seinfeld, but it’s not my favorite type of comedy. I liked what the scene was trying to do, I just don’t think the execution was there.
If LD is going to use slapstick, I think it should be used sparingly and along side more clever and writing. And for god's sake, cut back on the frenetic pace of the dialogue and character action.

The only thing I found remotely funny was the purple stripe idea. Trek tech is so tossed around, utilitarian and generic, the fact that a character talks about one of those things having any style at all is kind of funny. Then wanting one with some new flair to it.

Seinfeld still makes me laugh heartily. Jay Leno used to. But not Letterman. Everyone's mileage do vary.

I don't think the clip captures what is wrong with LD at all. What is wrong with it is, that I thought the new episode would drop today and it turned out I was mistaken and I have to wait a couple more hours longer than I would like. That's what wrong with LD!

No. But when one complains non-stop since before the show even started airing, then you likely have someone who is joyless and inflexible.
We haven't been given many other options. The fan base has started to strike me as very black and white. See "Not real Star Trek" type arguments.
To the topic of the OP there is nothing "wrong" with the show. It is enjoyable for some and not enjoyable for others, just like something like TNG, for instance. Many fans find TNG enjoyable and relate well to the characters-I do not. So, would those people who find that enjoyment force me to watch TNG and demand I enjoy it? I would hope not...
