The Characters' Best Episodes?

The Borgified Corpse

Admiral
Admiral
Which episodes were the best showcases for the different Voyager main characters?

Captain Janeway. "Counterpoint." It's also Kate Mulgrew's favorite. The deceptive courtship & triple crossing make this a very compelling episode and Janeway's steamiest romance.

Chakotay. "Nemesis."

B'Elanna Torres. "Day of Honor."

Kes. I'm torn. I really enjoy the way she tries to keep the Doctor grounded in "Darkling." OTOH, "Warlord" is just hot.

Tom Paris. I liked him best when he was in Captain Proton mode. So, "Bride of Chaotica!"

Neelix. "Investigations" or "Mortal Coil."

The Doctor. Two flavors. Light: "Message in a Bottle." Dark: "Latent Image."

Tuvok. His really dark stuff, like "Meld" & "Random Thoughts."

Harry Kim. "The Chute." His friendship with Tom Paris is at its most powerful here.

Seven of Nine. Hard to say. She had so many great ones. "One" & "Imperfection" are probably my favorites.

Captain Janeway. The Black hole episode.

Chakotay. "Unity-Very good episode, But he has so many, he is a great actor too.

B'Elanna Torres. "Day of Honor."-Agreed good episode

Kes. When she is traveling back in time is very good.

Tom Paris. The one where he goes insane in that ship

Neelix. Homestead-He matures a lot in this one

The Doctor. None, I hate the Doctor and he French styled vanity.

Tuvok. Flashback-'You never brought me Tea is the greatest Voyager Line Ever"

Harry Kim. That one where he is in the alternate time line.

Seven of Nine. One-Very Interesting moral implications.

Janeway - Counterpoint
Chakote - Nemesis
Tuvok - Alter Ego
Kes - Warlord
Kim - Timeless
Doctor - Life Line
Paris - Future's End
Seven - Imperfection

Janeway - I'm tempted to say Scientific Method, just for how she behaved at the end. It was absolutely awesome seeing her give the aliens the middle finger in such a way, and it came off really well. But thinking about it, I might have to say Scorpion. It was a fantastic episode in general, but I think it did a great job showing Janeway as a thoughtful, resourceful leader. Or perhaps Macrocosm since despite the ridiculousness of the "science" involved, we got to see that Janeway could be a good soldier when needed, which was very cool.

Chakotay - Shattered, definitely. It was so cool seeing all these different parts of Voyager's timeline and watching Chakotay interact with all of them. The bits with Chakotay and pre-DQ-stranded Janeway are some of my favorite interactions with those two. And adult Naomi was a cutie, if memory serves.

Torres - I want to say Faces for the unique situation she's put in, and this is what I remember as "the good Vidiian episode". It's really interesting to watch these two halves of herself interact as they do.

Kes - I started to say Cold Fire, since the Kes part of the episode was pretty good. But everything else wasn't. So I'd say Before and After. It was unique for a time travel episode, and even if the ultimate solution was too simple, we at least didn't get bogged down in technobabble. I also like how her experience here tied into Year of Hell.

Paris - I love Tom, and I think he had a few good ones. 30 Days is what first springs to mind. It's something that had repercussions, and I think it was a great ep to highlight how Tom had developed 'til then.

Neelix - Jetrel is the only particular Neelix-centric ep I remember really liking, though it was pretty early in the show so I don't remember as much about it.

The doctor - So many good ones it's hard to choose! Picardo/the doctor was a shining ray of light through VOY. I think Critical Care. But also possible are Life Line, Living Witness, and Latent Image.

Tuvok - Meld, definitely. It's a shame that Suder only came back in the rather mediocre Basics, but his initial episode, and Tuvok's interactions with him are fantastic to me.

Harry - Timeless, without question. It is, sadly, the closest thing he ever got to character development. But it WAS a really good episode, and seeing the jaded, cynical Harry was really interesting. Sucks that this was another ep where Beltran phoned it in, though. Enjoy being an Ensign for the next 40 years. Oh, and seeing Geordi as a captain was terrific.

Seven - My vote goes to One. It's fascinating to watch Seven's mind in this situation, and to see how human she's become.

Kes-Warlord (Hmmmm, a possessed Kes in leather)...

Harry Kim-Timeless (It was actually cool to see Captain Geordi LaForge of the USS Challenger)

Chakotay-In the Flesh (I like it more for the Species 8472, and the idea they can mimic humans)

Tuvok-Gravity...

I have to second the vote for Paris - Thirty Days. I was actually surprised it didn't get brought up sooner, as it was the first episode I thought of for him.

Kim - Timeless is somewhat of a gimme, but it's sad that there isn't a good non-alternate reality episode for the character.

I liked Nightingale. It's just that the Harry of Timeless was so different than the one we knew. It showed that Garrett Wang could act - like Warlord vindicated Jennifer Lien.

I didn't care for Harry in Nightingale. Hm. Though it's not the strongest episode, I guess if I had to name a normal-universe version of Harry episode I'd go with...is it Alter Ego? The one where he ends up in an Alternate Reality? He's still our Harry after all.

ActionFigure Harry from Deadlock isn't bad either, though I don't know why everyone gets so hung up on the question of which Voyager was the "real" one.

Alter Ego doesn't involve an alternate reality. It's the episode where a lonely alien artificially maintains an "inversion nebula" and projects herself into Voyager as a holodeck character. Harry falls in love with her but she falls for Tuvok.

It's my favorite Tuvok episode but it doesn't paint Harry in a favorable light. It's an episode of growth for him though.

Janeway: Equinox. Janeway as Capt. Ahab was more compelling than watching the female version of Picard that Berman and Braga originally conceived her as. Pushing the line, leading with her passions, and never really knowing if she was going to kill that guy, I'd rather tune in every week to watch that character, than one who dives into Nebulas in search of coffee. Ugh.

Chakotay: Distant Origin is probably my favorite Chakotay episode, because it's such a cool sci-fi concept and has a kind of tragic end, but as far as character development, his pretty much arrested at Initiations in the 2nd season. After that, his spiritual side was pretty much forgotten. Unfortunate, since Chuckles became a cardboard version of Will Riker after that.

Tuvok: Gravity was the Tuvok love story that nobody actually wanted to see, but was well executed nonetheless.

B'Elanna: Lineage is my all time favortie of hers. You really see her internal struggle play out, and why she would go to such lengths at the end to harm her own child, for fear of losing Tom like she did her father. As a Paris/Torres shipper, it was also the episode that best illustrated why their relationship actually worked.

Harry: Timeless might be the best episode of Voyager as a series, and it's a Harry episode. The 2nd best episode of Harry is every other one, since he sucked equally in all of them.

Neelix: I know that Jetrel gets some love, as it should, but my favorite is Fair Trade where we see Neelix in a dilemma, and see him make bad decisions, and see him struggling with his purpose on the show. It's unfortunate that he wasn't put to any good use after this seson 3 ep. Ugh.

Kes: Before and After is the best use of Kes and of the actress. As with Harry's one good episode, all other Kes episodes suck equally. Seriously, she was just a bad idea for a character. Ugh.

Seven of Nine: Hard to pick one, since most Seven episodes involve her learning a lesson about her own humanity, that she promptly forgets so she can learn it again two episodes later. Ugh. But if I have to pick one, then I'd go with Unimatrix Zero. If only they'd finished with the Borg there.

The Doctor: While he did a great job in all those hologram rights episodes in S6 and S7, it seemed like he was revisiting stuff that Data had already done in TNG. So my favorite is Someone to Watch Over Me. Picardo's performance in the episode is amazing, and his chemistry with Jeri Ryan is surprising, endearing, and ultimately tragic.

Tom: Y'know, I liked the character of Paris, but every episode he seemed to star in were usually the worst of the season. Spirit Folk and Threshhold are not just the worst episdoes of the show, they're possibly the worst episodes of television purpotrated on television viewers in the 20th Century. I'm tempted to give all other Paris episodes a tie, just because they didn't suck as mush as those. Thirty Days, however, deserves recognition as an episode that allowed him to care about something, and sacrifice something for it. It was the rare episode that actually had consequences for the following weeks as he was demoted. Of course, he was re-premoted not long after that, but still.

Hey, good idea for a thread. :)

Janeway... too difficult to pick but if I had to it would be Workforce PartII
Chakotay... Nemesis
Tom Paris... I've forgotten the name but it's in Season 1 and he is found guilty of murder and the murder is played back in his head every 14 hours.
Kes... Warlord
Neelix... Mortal Coil or the one when he is looking after Naomi and her mother is missing.
Harry... The Chute
Doctor... the one where he has a family
B'Elanna... Faces
Seven... One

Janeway - Counterpoint
Chakotay - Unity
Tuvok - Gravity
Torres - Day of Honor/Lineage (can't pick between them)
Paris - Alice
Kim - Timeless/The Chute (another tie)
Doctor - Author Author
Seven - Dark Frontier
Kes - Warlord
Neelix - Homestead

Captain Janeway. "Resistance"
Chakotay. "Nemesis"
B'Elanna Torres. "Remember"
Kes. "Cold Fire"
Tom Paris. "Time And Again" or "Ex Post Facto"
Neelix. "Jetrel"
The Doctor. "Projections"
Tuvok. "Meld"
Harry Kim. "Non Sequitur"
Seven of Nine. The episode where she is singing duet with The Doctor.

Janeway: "Counterpoint" is probably my favourite episode of Voyager, so there's pretty much only one way this could go.

Chakotay: ...bleh. Never really cared for the guy, even back when he had a character arc (sorta) and everything. "Nemesis" I guess, as I liked the way the ugly aliens in that episode were the good ones, and the point about mental conditioning of soldiers. It's a quinessentially Trek tale, really. We're always humanising the Other in this franchise!

B'Elanna Torres: "Juggernaut" was fun I remmeber thinking. But "Barge of the Dead" is fun Klingon stuff and a pretty solid episode so I'm going with that. "Faces" is good also.

Kes: "Warlord", no question. Lien gives a good performance, Kes is great in leather, and it's a fun, pulpy little tale about evil mind-swapping dictators! Oddly, between this and "Body and Soul" Voyager was actually pretty well served by this sci-fi cliche.

Neelix: I have a sneaking fondness of "Fair Trade" for some reason. But I did feel "Homecoming" was a pretty decent sendoff also.

Tuvok: You know I liked him in "Gravity". No, really, it was channeling "This Side of Paradise" in the whole 'Vulcans are sexually repressed but totally tragically awesome people' plotline.

The Doctor: There's another name for good Voyager episodes: Doctor episodes. Yeah, this guy is the real star of the show and he's darn awesome. So, uh, I have no idea. First thing that comes to mind is "Living Witness", even if that isn't really the Doctor in that episode it was a very strong hour of VOY, and Picardo turns in a typically strong performance.

Tom: I'd agree with where'sSaavik?, Tom didn't get many good episodes. I wasn't a big fan of him anyway, honestly, but I guess I'll go with "Bride of Chaotica" just because I really liked the idea of the Flash Gordon-esque serial.

Harry Kim: "Timeless", duh. Like Chakotay, he's a bleh character. Unsurprisingly the bitter, elderly, completely non-normal Kim made more impression then our perpertually optimistic ensign.

Seven: A little like the Doctor, she was an anchor for much of the series. But being an unashamed Doctor fan, I'll go with "Someone to Watch Over Me", which is a good ep for them both.

Let's see..this is really a tough one as there were so many great episodes for these characters! Here's just some off the top of my head...
Janeway: "Coda"-very powerful episode, IMO because Janeway supposedly "dies" several times and is confronted by an "alien" claiming to be her father.
Chakotay: "Maneuvers"-really liked this episode as he and Seska go head to head with each other..then the ending really gets me when she tells him in so many words(in front of the ENTIRE bridge crew!) that she's pregnant!
Paris: "Alice"-this episode was interesting to say the least and had unexpected plot twists.
Torres: Either "Barge of the Dead" or "Faces"-both were wonderful episodes but I especially liked the emotions surrounding "Barge of the Dead"..and liked the mother/daughter storyline.
Kim: Well his episodes were quite blah but "Favorite Son" does come to mind as a memorable episode..not sure if it's good..but memorable to say the least.
Kes: "Before and After"-REALLY loved this episode immensely! Her going back in time constantly was a thrill ride for me and kept me on my toes throughout the ENTIRE episode. Just as she was about to tell them what had happened..POOFF!! She was gone again!
Doctor: "Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy"-gotta love the beginning of that episode! "Tuvok I understand, you are a vulcan man....!" :guffaw: That episode had me laughing literally for twenty minutes after the doc started singing his tune to Tuvok and the others. :D
Seven: "Dark Frontier"-loved the arc behind her character throughout this episode..it had me on the edge of my seat!
Tuvok: "Innocence" comes to mind on him..it's not the greatest episode known to man, but it was still pretty entertaining!
