The Chains of Error - Gibraltar/Full Speed Ahead Crossover

Ah, plots within schemes within intrigues. I LIKE it!

It's great how you're laying out the sort of "geopolitics" underlying each faction's motivations here, and counterbalancing each against the other.

I especially like where you're taking Sandhurst, personality-wise, and the subtle ways you're showing this to us, mostly through the eyes of others, such as T'Ser and Diaz.

It'll be interesting to see how all the other pieces of this puzzle come into play, including Pava's contingent and Mr. Kincaid's companions.

Looking forward to it, as always. :bolian:

Copied from Ad Astra:

I'm tempted to say that Sandhurst might have missed his calling. The guy should have been a diplomat. I had no idea he was such a prudent negotiator. But I guess selling his Maquis-state plan to Kincaid and Diaz was just the easy part. Selling this to Command, the Federation and the Cardassians, now that's going to take some serious lobbying.

In the meantime we learn the full extent of Galmesh's surprisingly cunning plan. Or maybe not so surprisingly cunning considering that he's working hand in hand with a Romulan, of all people. Love the irony that she is his lover and enemy. That's poetic.

I didn't agree with T'Ser's call however to keep the Gallant back when Galmesh attacked. It felt a little bit like tempting fate. We're talking about Gibraltar after all, with this ship you never want to take any chances. I'm sure T'Ser will learn.

Terrific chapter but I do get frustrated that every other installment of yours includes a couple of words I've never heard before. A learning experience, I guess.

Sandhurst can be a bit Machiavellian, can't he? Nice job of take-it-or-leave it diplomacy on his part.

Good battle sequence, too. Galmesh plays the part of the hot-headed Klingon to a T. It appears that Gibraltar is handling the blind-side attack well . . . so far. Let's see how it goes when all the players get in the game.

Great chapter!

I agree with all above.

This is why you should never do business with a Klingon...Galmesh is doing his best to make the situation worse. Unless he's part of a broader plan...

Odd thing about Sandhurst: he's willing to stay off the bridge during a crisis. I don't see many command officers doing that unless there was an especially good reason for it.
I suppose one could argue that it's good to have that much trust in your staff.

Great segement!

I've caught up with this story. I can't say enough good things about it. It kept me reading all the way through.

I do like the idea of a negotiated peace with the Maquis. Though, the way it's being done is sure to create ill will for years to come.

It also makes perfect sense that the Romulans would want to keep Starfleet busy with the Maquis for as long as possible.

Sandhurst is either going to make a lot of friends at SFC or a lot of enemies...or both.

I'm definitely into it! Please, do continue, sir.:techman:

Be on the look out for Chapter 7 of The Chains of Error. It will be posted within the next week or so. :)

Here's what I had to say over at Ad Astra about this:

About time this gets another chapter.

The battle is afoot and for a brief moment it looked as if Gibraltar & friends would have an easy victory for once. Then the universe remembered the absurdity of such an idea and promptly changed the odds.

And look at Sandhurst flexing his rarely used diplomatic muscles. To everyone's surprise, the sly fox has already hammered out half of a deal to ensure an independent Maquis state. Now the question is, will the Federation play ball, too.

And then there is Pava and the SMT's. They were a bit heavy on the catch phrases and pre-mission rituals here for my tastes but you can't argue with their effectiveness.

Outstanding, as always.

Thanks, CeJay... and as for the pre-mission rah-rah... you're right, I was a bit worried I'd laid it on too thick. I've gone back and pared it down.

I commented over at Ad Astra as well.

I'm really interested in how this will turn out. I must say, it'd be interesting to see how the geopolitics in the region could change with a Maquis state.

Chapter Eight of The Chains of Error should be up within the next week or so. I know this has been slow-going, but I think (hope) the end will be worth the wait.

(from my remarks at Ad Astra . . .)

To say this chapter was intense would be a gross understatement! Great action sequence aside is the significant meeting between the Cardassians and the League of Sovereign Colonies. At least that seems to be going well.

Not so much for Pava and co. They were badly blind-sided on the Immolator - now they're hurt and bleeding, about to face a very ticked-off Galmesh and the Maquis survivors.

Glad to see T'Ser have a hand in taking revenge for the ambush on Amberjack. I think Captain Akinola would be very pleased.

Awesome!:techman:

I've no doutbt T'Ser will get in some good blows on behalf of her Border Dog brothers and sisters. :klingon:

As Lar'ragos well knows, no plan survives contact with the enemy, most especially an enemy as cunning and dangerous as Galmesh.

And who knew the Cardassians and the Maquis would find so much in common, notably their mutual mistrust of the Federation? It would seem that diplomacy, much like politics, leads to strange bedfellows indeed.

Thanks for the review, TLR! :)
