The Chains of Error - Gibraltar/Full Speed Ahead Crossover

I feel sorry for the Maquis.

What? We all know which SMT is involved. I wonder if the Andorian only had one antenna ;)

Good ol' you know who.

Special thanks to SLWatson and Michael D. Garcia for their phenomenal work on the new and improved The Chains of Error cover!

You guys ROCK The Rock!

Stunning cover.

Gibraltar has given me a newly found appreciation for the old and venerable Constitution. Now all the new ships look like fancy blow dryers to me. (Except for Eagle, of course)

I was going to say... what about the Nebula's? :)

Aw, no stars for us, Mistral? :)

Seriously, though, thanks for the review. We're working on number four right now :)

I'm in the middle of chapter two right now. Really enjoying it so far. I'm not too familiar with many of the characters yet, but I figure I'll get caught up in due time. I've always had a soft spot for the Constitution-class. I'm anxious to see how it'll stack up.

Glad to have you aboard for the story, mthompson. :) Gibraltar's a tough old girl, and besides, she's got the Gallant looking out for her.

Great chapter! I have to admit though, it pains me to see an Albacore - class cutter go down. There aren't many left! Captain Reuben and her crew certainly fought the good fight against overwhelming odds.

Loved the reunion between Sandhurst and Lar'ragos - awkward with a hint of foreboding. I wonder if these two can ever be friends again?

These Maquis with their Klingon ally are certainly a dangerous force. Thiat does not bode well for the crews of Gibraltar and Gallant.

Thanks for the welcome Gibraltar. The reason I say that I have a soft spot for the Constitution-class is because I once did what you're doing as an RPG, it didn't really work out the way I would have liked. But I never let the idea get away from me, and I love the approach that you're taking with it.

Hated to see the cutter go down, but it was well written and a valiant fight. I had a feeling that Sandhurst and Lar'ragos knew each other. I always liked stories that had the Maquis, they are certainly resourceful. Should be a good challenge for Gibraltar and Gallant[/I. ]I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

Posted this review over there:
A rollicking chapter, with a lot going on.
First off, the Amberjack's fate was terrible with the crew facing horrible odds. her captain probably was over zealous in the first instance but what a way to go!
Sandhurst and Pava's reunion was one of those really awkward moments were a window would have been handy to either jump out or talk about the weather. Sandhurst used a cruel line against Pava, my hands fix things and yours break things. Quite a zinger. Cuts to the bone too in terms of their relationship. It will make things difficult for them to work together though Sandhurst probably deep down knows Pava is still someone to count on in a crunch situation like they are headed into.
Sandhurst's meeting with Kircheis is quite telling of his character and of the experiences he wants to spare the Gallant's captain. It speaks of the depth of his character and the complex history he has had.
Anyway, a fantastic chapter. With a lot of intrigue and motivations going on. Not sure they won't blow up in their face but that only makes for even more compelling reading. :techman:

The Maquis have already lost, they just don't know it yet.

With Gibraltar on point, and Lar'ragos strolling around with weapons hot, the Maquis will get a faceful of plasma before they realise they've been smoked.

Remember, he was the Last Man off Tzenketh.

Ya know ..., I'm usually a relatively articulate man. Which is way it's all the more frustrating that all I can think of to say, once again is ... wow. just wow.

That was amazing. Truly.

The battle scenes were masterfully executed. Just detailed enough to give a vivid mental image of the space battle, without coming across like script direction. And, perhaps more impressively, in one short chapter you gave us characters we grew to care about enough that we genuinely lamented their loss.

I was utterly and completely satisfied with Sandhurst's and Lar'ragos' "reunion". It was perfect.

I loved Leone's last conversation and how you've set up the politics behind what will no doubt be an epic battle.

And probably one of the best lines I've ever seen in print:

"Sandhurst attempted a smile in respone, but it failed to reach all the way to his eyes."

It conveys so much, and so perfectly.

I have to say -- and I mean no disrespect to anyone, fan writer or professional -- that this is honestly some of the very best Star Trek lit writing I have ever read.

A very big :techman:
