I wonder if stepdad will be the kind of person who will continue to defend Homelander even while Homelander is murdering him.

I personally can't imagine this show continuing without Butcher or Hughie. This show is basically all about the two of them.

They might die if it was the end of the show but as we see with A-Train's survival, there's ways around seeming certain death.

I just think the Legend's rambling diatribe on Soldier Boy didn't ring very true with me and somewhat damages the setting if taken at face value, IMO, while I think Soldier Boy being an out of time bigot who's toxic, bullying behaviour alienated all Payback into ganging up on him landed much better.

Yeah it's hard to imagine the show without them.

My interpretation of the matter is that while his heroic deeds might be fabricated, Soldier Boy is still a tough guy who can hold his own in a fight against anyone. IE, unlike the typical guy who swaggers too much but is in fact a colossal wuss when put in the spotlight, Soldier Boy can actually live up to reputation manufactured by the propaganda about him. Certainly throughout this episode we see Hughie fall into the trap of thinking Soldier Boy is a wimp posing as a tough guy, only to see that there is some truth behind Soldier Boy's tough exterior after all.

I think the implication is more on Vought than Soldier Boy himself. It's a show they've always dealt in racism, lies, propaganda, and cover ups.

I was wondering how relevant the 3-5 dose limit was because of where the notes were found. They were on a table next to a bunch of doses, so I was wondering if it was just those particular doses the person was working on? I would have put more weight to the notes if they were on the head researcher's desk or in a report.

Couldn't it even be possible that Homelander or someone at Vought planted the notes by the vials of Temp-V so Annie would call and warn Hughie and Butcher not to take them? It seems like if a scientist-type was super concerned about side effects of multiple doses, this would have been something they would have discovered sooner smuggling out the vials. Or maybe they'd keep the vials under lock and key instead of just chilling out in the open

    WILD MASS GUESSING:

I mean, I basically predict they'll be dying and then Starlight will give them both perma-V boosts.

Which Butcher will become murderously angry over.

I'm also predicting Soldier Boy's end at the end of the season but also Homelander depowering.

I suspect the 3-5 doses thing doesn't mean literally 3-5 doses kills automatically, but rather after 3-5 doses the damage done will be irreversible and therefore death becomes more of a certainty. At the very least, this would explain why Butcher still lives despite having already taken 3-5 doses, presumably.

There's got to be some conflict between damage done and powers granted. Butcher gets enough super-durability (implying some super-healing) to go up against Homelander. If you got actual super-healing like Kimiko, could you keep taking the stuff almost indefinitely? Or does the damage set in during the come-down period?

Hughie's arm healed when he took the drug in Russia. So it's a good question...

That also kills my "maybe it only heals damage done DURING the shot" argument - if the brain damage happens during the come-down, then you might argue the Temp-V doesn't know what to fix in terms of pre-existing injuries (would it cure existing cancer?)...

Yeah, but if you take the Legend's ramble about Soldier at face value it lacks logic (a bomb proof man is not used against Nazi and Soviet troops but perfectly fine against disgruntled hippies, etc).

I wasn't convinced by the Legend, but I'm convinced that Soldier Boy in person encapsulates the toxic Alpha Male type from mid to late 20th century America, the nasty and hypocritical side of America from WW2 and Cold War.

A fusion of Agent, the Commedian, and the Winter Soldier (with a hint of Nuke Fury put on maximum).

Well he wasn't used against Nazis because Doctor Vought only created him after the war was already almost over.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was used in Vietnam but given what we know of Soldier Boy, his actions probably resembled the Comedian's.

Yeah, but Edgar proclaimed Soldier Boy killed German troops by the dozen, but I wouldn't be surpised if he did stuff on D-Day so unpalatable for mass consumption, they re-staged his landing for propaganda purposes.

Most likely he did iffy paramilitary wetwork in Korea, 'Nam, and many other places, and not necessarily as Soldier Boy and wearing regular BDUs, bypassing a loophole on 'supes not formally part of the military (hence why the Soviets expended a lot of men and material to capture him).

Thing is we saw in Nicaragua(?) how useless supes can be in actual combat. Having Soldier Boy storm the beaches at Normandy would have been a huge distraction from the wider battle, especially given he doesn't seem big on the whole taking orders thang. He'd likely run off on his own side mission leaving the men he was supposed to be leading vulnerable.

As a side note given the popularity of irreverent takes on superheroes (The Boys, Umbrella Academy) and the popularity of 80s' nostalgia (Stranger Things) it still amazes me no one has thought of making a Zenith limited series. Especially given it comes complete with Nazi punching, cosmic horror and even a dash of 60s' nostalgia.

One thing that bothered me is how casual she walks into Vought HQ and into a supposedly secure area ( at least i hope it's a high security area as it's their most important product).

Homelander knew she was there and got into her way, was Vought really unaware she stole V and secret notes? Hard to believe but sometimes it's best not to look to closely at things in such shows.
