Soldier Boy is still Jensen Ackles so he has that going for him.
It’s also their word against his. For all we know he wasn’t that much of a asshole. Very unlikely though.
I personally can't imagine this show continuing without Butcher or Hughie. This show is basically all about the two of them.
My interpretation of the matter is that while his heroic deeds might be fabricated, Soldier Boy is still a tough guy who can hold his own in a fight against anyone. IE, unlike the typical guy who swaggers too much but is in fact a colossal wuss when put in the spotlight, Soldier Boy can actually live up to reputation manufactured by the propaganda about him. Certainly throughout this episode we see Hughie fall into the trap of thinking Soldier Boy is a wimp posing as a tough guy, only to see that there is some truth behind Soldier Boy's tough exterior after all.I just think the Legend's rambling diatribe on Soldier Boy didn't ring very true with me and somewhat damages the setting if taken at face value, IMO, while I think Soldier Boy being an out of time bigot who's toxic, bullying behaviour alienated all Payback into ganging up on him landed much better.

I wonder if stepdad will be the kind of person who will continue to defend Homelander even while Homelander is murdering him.
Couldn't it even be possible that Homelander or someone at Vought planted the notes by the vials of Temp-V so Annie would call and warn Hughie and Butcher not to take them? It seems like if a scientist-type was super concerned about side effects of multiple doses, this would have been something they would have discovered sooner smuggling out the vials. Or maybe they'd keep the vials under lock and key instead of just chilling out in the open![]()
Hughie's arm healed when he took the drug in Russia. So it's a good question...There's got to be some conflict between damage done and powers granted. Butcher gets enough super-durability (implying some super-healing) to go up against Homelander. If you got actual super-healing like Kimiko, could you keep taking the stuff almost indefinitely? Or does the damage set in during the come-down period?

I think the implication is more on Vought than Soldier Boy himself. It's a show they've always dealt in racism, lies, propaganda, and cover ups.
Yeah, but if you take the Legend's ramble about Soldier at face value it lacks logic (a bomb proof man is not used against Nazi and Soviet troops but perfectly fine against disgruntled hippies, etc).
Well he wasn't used against Nazis because Doctor Vought only created him after the war was already almost over.
I wouldn't be surprised if he was used in Vietnam but given what we know of Soldier Boy, his actions probably resembled the Comedian's.
