The Boss.

I'm self-employed, so have a fantastic boss.

Cheapjack - please provide more gruesome details of how your soul is gradually being destroyed by your work. It's quite difficult to cackle maniacally with the very limited information provided so far. If this thread represents your best work effort, I'm not surprised your boss is disappointed with you. :p ;)

Actually, it's a bit of a zeitgeist thing.

Gesundheit. Here, have a tissue.

Three years into the job I asked when this that and the other thing would start to happen... The boss who hired me just shook his head and said "once an operator, always an operator."
Wow. that's bad.
No, that's awesome.

Revenge is sweet, and remarkably low in calories.

It was kinda sad actually. I maintained a good working relationship with certain members of the company, and I helped them over the years and they helped me.

In fact when they realized they couldn't go on anymore they called me and told me "the end is near, if there is anything you want pick it out now and we'll set it aside so the appraiser doesn't mark it." :techman:

Their technological distinctiveness has been added to our own. I also hired two workers from there. :borg:

Now to clarify things: I am one of three owners this business I am involved in. I actually have very very little administrative malarky to deal with as I'm the engineer and Dark Prince Of Sales.

When I opened this thread, I thought it would be about Bruce Springsteen.

As to the asked question...bosses are people - and some people are jerks who delight in making others miserable in one way or the other.

If someone is a petty jerk deep underneath, becoming a boss is not going to change that in the slightest. They will then be a petty jerk...with power over others. And everyone else has to figure out a way to deal with them or avoid them.

This is the sort of thing that office politics is made of.

I've never heard anyone call Steinbrenner "The Boss". Maybe I would if I lived up north and paid any attention to the Yankees. Or baseball. Or anything outside of college football.
