The Big E bridge: What changes WOULD you like?

because hatters gonna hate.

I love the wood grain. I want to see something like this in Star Trek.

In addition to the aesthetics, I like it because it is slightly softer than the counter material. It counts for a lot when you’re leaning on it across the day. So, it’s practical, too!

The Enterprise bridge might end up being a bit bigger with basically similar layout, but in Discovery style (chrome style bulkheads), more advanced looking displays, better looking viewscreen.

Nah, they already used up that chance with the exterior reveal in the season finale. Everything from here on is irrelevant. Fans who hate the re-design will hate the interiors, because hatters gonna hate. Fans who accept the re-design will just as likely accept the interiors.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I kinda' liked the exteriour of the Disco-prise - while I think it's inferiour to the original (or the refit. or the JJprise), I think it's still one of the better iterations of the Jeffrey's design.

But for the interiour my expectations are set between "hate" and "grudgingly tolerate" them. That's because I really hate the interiour sets of Discovery so far - they're IMO the worst studio sets any Trek show ever had, and I'm including the original from the 60s in here! (The quality of the sets doesn't directly correlate with the quality of the show though - ENT had the best sets, TNG the weakest bridge set - but damn, did DIS drop the ball here!) They are definitely going to reuse the corridor sets and crew quarter sets for the Enterprise (hopefully with a changed color-scheme). But therefore they need to adjust the bridge design to fit with the general aesthetic of the other sets. Not just the bridge window, but brutalistic design and dark grey and blue colors included. Did I already mention I hate that design?

Watching Enterprise's MU episodes at the weekeend (because fuck Eurovision), I liked how the Defiant set integraged flat screen monitors, and how the plasma conduits looked like TOS simplicity because they were revealed to be covers hiding the actual tech - but the jellybean buttons really grated somehow. So I'd be OK with improved screens, and dialling down the chunkiness of the buttons.

I'm expecting a Discovery/Shenzhou-style bridge, both in size and technology, but with TOS-style colors. And I'm fine with that. I'm not a purist, but I do like to see some nods and acknowledgements to what came before.

Although I will say I think the USS Kelvin's bridge actually would be a great template to go by for a re-imagined Enterprise bridge. I think it just has the right make and size. Yes, I understand the difference between the Prime and Kelvin Timelines, but if CBS asked for my opinion (which they should because I'm awesome), I'd say blend the Kelvin bridge with the TOS Enterprise bridge. Make it so.

There's a lot to like about the Kelvin bridge, but it needs more railing.

I'd keep the colors and dimensions of the post-Cage enterprise bridge, but the screens and interfaces we've seen for ships like Shenzou and Discovery. Interfaces should be standard across the service. No ready room. Enterprise never had one. No window, just a viewscreen.

The workplace safety concerns of the future are somewhat different. You see, OSHA doesn't exist in the 23rd century. Not falling on your face every time the ship shakes is no longer the driving force of our lives. We work to balance ourselves and the rest of humanity.

They changed the one thing that I did not want them to change, so seeing changes on the Enterprise bridge and corridors et all are actually the final nail in the coffin and officially have no interest what will be happening in season 2.

Given a choice about being angry at every thing they will screw up and change and making it seem even harder to fit in with TOS, I feel like I won't be watching. They need to do something to restore my faith that this is Trek.

Why not take the TOS sets and give them a modern makeover. A proper view screen, not the God Damn window. Doors like the ones from TOS, not those ribbed angled ones that DSC has. Uniforms more like the Cage era uniforms, not changing them to fit in with those awful DSC uniforms. Do the producers not care about TOS?

k, so why post about it?

They care, but they also need to make a show that people other then Star Trek fans would want to watch.
I have been re-evaluating my opinions and perhaps I am being too harsh on DSC due to the visual changes, I am a big TOS fan and I guess seeing it all very different is very culture shock to me, I guess because on ENT and TNG its a hundred years difference either way and DSC is closer to TOS.

I guess I need to be more positive about this show, and stop being annoyed that this is a very different Star Trek show
