The bias of Midnights Edge....

YouTube is weird, man...
It's personalized for everyone to SUCH a degree, it's really not fun anymore. I watched a lot of movie-making and analysis videos (like "Every frame a painting"). But now my entire Youtube-page is bombarded with these types of videos and less else... I also like "Crash Course" or DIY-videos. But I watch them fewer, and now I have to seek them out specifically, because I don't get recommendations for these anymore, because they're overwhelmed from the one other category of videos...
Also, there is almost no useful discussion about "YouTube" in general possible anymore - it's SO personalized, no two people have a similar experience on it, not even with close friends.

YouTube really should split up it's user-interface into "this is generally popular", "this is the main type of videos recommended for you" and "hey, here is some stuff related to the stuff you checked out infrequently might new but interesting for you!"

Because Jesus Christ, I don't want to always be bombarded with the familiar stuff in less and less good versions, I really would appreciate to randomly stumble upon some new good stuff I'm unfamiliar with!

Goddamn.

Just clear your browser cache and start hitting more of the YouTube videos you like, and you'll see those type of videos re-populate on your 'YouTube recommends' lists.

And again, use the "not interested" option on individual vids and channels. It's not perfect, but it does make a difference.

You can also clear your viewed & search lists as a sort of reset.

I ignore everyone who talks over anything on youtube because I don't need a 30 minute explanation of a f***ing movie trailer.

& I still don't know who the hell Midnight's Edge is, thankfully.

TrekYards made me giggle when I noticed their episode reviews were longer than the damn episode......Do they get more money if the video is longer and YT can slice in more ads?

TrekYards just gets carried away with their analyses sometimes. I think the length of their reviews is something that just kind of happened.

I never listened to a Midnight's Edge podcast until recently, when they interviewed Nick Meyer. That first time was good enough for me. I don't think I need to hear anything from them again.

That was actually the closest ME has ever gotten to an unbiased episode.

It's not like many "real jobs" add that much value to the world anyway.

If they can find a way to make a decent living in today's economy, more power to 'em I say. Especially via Patreon or GoFundMe, thier audeinces are paying directly what they feel the content is worth. God bless them

These "outrage" videos are simply people playing to a particular crowd. No different than actors in a TV show.

I wasn’t a fan of them going to the Mirror universe as well. They should have left that alone until Kirk.
I feel like they could have done something different. Go to that Hell dimension the Event Horizon went to or something.

I just don't log in. I just use it to watch stuff I fancy with no recommendations, no messages, can't post comments, can't upload.

It's good...

I don't know if this thread will be allowed but I just watched some of their videos and was pretty disgusted.

They seem to pump out constant videos bashing Discovery, quoting unnamed "sources" that say the show is failing, and leaking money, and the ratings suck, and netflix are furious, and it's going to be cancelled etc.

These videos actually started over a year prior to Discovery airing, as they seemed to take issue with the casting.

They say Discovery is the "worst show on tv" and claim that "real star trek fans" are being "tortured" with it's presence, all the while praising the Orville, i literally heard one of them say "thank god for the Orville, it's the only thing keeping star trek alive"

I take offence with the "real star trek fans" comment, as I have been a fan for over 20 years and certainly consider myself a real fan.

I don't think discovery is perfect, I wish that they didn't change the klingons, and that they had made more effort to make the visual design fit better with the other prime universe shows, but overall I do enjoy the show and think season 1 was a solid entry.

None of the shows are perfect.

They're simply playing to an audience for clicks. Most folks know it.
I recently watched a part of one of these DSC hater vids where the "host" stupidly admitted that bashing DSC got them more views. Although he probably meant this as a dig at DSC, to me it meant that their other video content was probably even more worthless and lame than their DSC vids.

This wasn't Midnight's Edge. The host dude had long hair, short beard and mustache, and dressed like an old style hippie. He had one of those typical "radio" voices. He just flat out admitted to his bias and likely didn't realize it.

What he and Edge and the rest may not realize is that, ironically, their vids contribute to the measurement of DSC's overall "popularity", as estimated by groups like Parrot Analysis.

So I say, keep on keeping on, guys.

Pretty much. The longer the videos the more ads that can be placed. Though I have to wonder if their videos lately have been demonetized a lot. They used a LOT stills and images in their Discovery videos. Lately though they've noticed there is money to be made by catering to the same crowd ME and DC does. It's part of why they switched to doing live streams. When they reinforced those negative feelings in real time they get more money it seems and it becomes a cycle. They're worse now compared to how they were several months ago.

Doomcock, Midnights Edge, Trekyards et al, they're all on a spectrum of shit.

Fantasy rumour mills fed by the lunatic fringe who would benefit more from care in the community than the frantic clicks from the fans who nerdgasm at every post proclaiming the end of Trek.

I am not a fan in case it isn't clear.

It suddenly occurs to me that any of us could do similar to Doomcook or Midnight's Bread and make some YouTube $$$. We wouldn't even have to really hate Discovery, just say what haters want to hear - which we've all heard enough of to know by rote.

Now I'm wondering if they really do hate Discovery, or if they're geniuses manipulating idiots into clicks:lol:
