I just assumed that's exactly what happened. Her son & friends are out there in the far reaches of the galaxy, & she's babysitting some institute on Earth. What I never understood is why she'd have left for that to begin with, unless promotion was part of the offer, which is doesn't seem like it was, & since now I don't even have the luxury of considering it highly prestigious (Or at least no more than CMO of the flagship) I just don't get it. It's not like the medicine there is going to be even a fraction as amazing as it is traveling the stars
Oooo! I thought of a better write off for Beverly just now! She gets infected with something, & had to leave Starfleet to recover. Then, when she comes back, you can write in some condition or debility she now has, from her ordeal. WAY better drama. Nothing makes for better drama than a doc who themselves have an affliction, like House. lol
Oops. Kind of makes Wes staying make even less sense though. I don't know, but that Starfleet Medical gig just doesn't seem like it should be a big draw for her
Pulaski if you have a known condition that requires difficult sensitive surgery to cure, Crusher if you have something new and weird nobody's ever seen before and three hours before it kills everyone.
I can't recall the exact language used, but it's possible that she was simple reassigned by Starfleet. As oppose to being asked if she wanted to go.
