Spoilers The Bad Batch - Season 1 Discussion [cue A-Team theme music]

Really enjoyed this episode. It was cool getting to see how Gregor defected from the Empire.
Them actually appearing to kill of Lama Su was a surprise.
It was also a great set up for the last couple episodes.

Lots of Clones might have rebelled in the early days after 66. Most might have been hunted down, and we never get to hear of them. But does it take special coincidence for a set of "celebrity" rebel Clones to gyrate together?

Quite possibly Rex is a kingpin that brings together rebel Clones. But so far, he hasn't; all he has done is say hello to the Batch. Cut is a rebel, for unknown reasons (66 was transmitted through helmet-com only?) but not a Rex-assigned connection.

Now Rex vectors the heroes to Gregor. Is there history there? Not necessarily: Rex could have been the one contacted by Gregor, in a general-distress-call sense of Gregor deciding to defect and sending a signal to anybody listening to come pick him up from that planet that offers no indigenous way out. That is, the two never met, and the Batch is their first real point of connection...

So perhaps there are no small-universe coincidences here at all, and we just meet familiar names in the very incidents that will eventually make the names familiar.

Getting back to the one I missed initially, I find the story logic of "Infested" a bit lacking. Sure, Cid is a smooth operator who bests the Durand kid and all. But Roland is the guy who can get spice for the Pykes. I can get why Roland would be shown leniency, then - but why let Cid live? She has only downsides to offer: she can and will interfere, she can't get spice, and her skilled mercs can't be bought off her. Essentially, by favoring Cid over Roland that way, the Pykes have lost a partner at Ord Mantell to no gain.

It's not just that this would be unrealistic behavior for a crime syndicate, and contrary to certain mob story conventions (even if not all of 'em). It's that the idea of Cid and the Batch being on the good side of the Pykes seems dramatically inferior to them being considered a threat, now that the writers have their two options here.

I don't think he was getting the spice for them so much as shipping it, like the Martinez Sisters (almost) did, and Han (also almost) did for Jabba.
Killing Cid doesn't do them any good. She's a fence and a fixer; someone they could use. If Durand can't handle her and honour his contract with the Syndicate then that's on him. They're not interested in excuses and fixing his problem for him sets a dangerous precedent as it tell all of their other operatives that they can be sloppy and get away with it.

It's also probably worth remembering that the whole spice smuggling this isn't because it's an illicit substance; it has many legitimate medicinal uses. It is however a *heavily* taxed substance, so smuggling shipments around the Republic/commerce guilds/Empire/whoever is running the toll booths to clients that'll jump at the chance to pay less under the table, but 100% of which goes to the sellers which makes it very profitable.

To the Pykes, the Batch are just mercenaries, not Jedi. So it isn't a matter of being a threat, it's matter of a sub-contractor not holding up his end. All they care about is getting their product; they don't care who has it or why, just so long as the debt is paid.

Of course the shit is going to stick around. Cheaper to continue a shitty show that they're already set up to produce then to make a good show. Plus,I think with CG shows they build CG assets and so want to reuse them, but I'm not very well versed in any kind of animation so I'm not 100% sure abut that, its just what I've heard before about CG cartoons but would help justify wanting to produce more of the same thing.

I'm half convinced that this whole show only exists because Dave Filoni, who is a rabid Lucas sycophant, is still angry that people made Lucas sad by hating Jar Jar and Little Anakin, so he's made a whole show about a character that is just Jar Jar and Anakin combined in little girl form (but without the Force...for now).

Don't you get tired of being negative all the time? It must be exhausting.

Lucas didn't deserve any of the garbage he got nor did the actors. So, if Filoni's response is to make a show that is willing to explore characters like that more then more power to him I say.
