The Avengers & the Hulk

Here's the question: will the presence of the Hulk deter anyone from seeing The Avengers?

My guess is no, not a one, except maybe Ruffalo's ex-girlfriends.

Otherwise, it's just good business sense to include him, in order to boost sales of TIH on TV and elsewhere.
I am sure your right it wont deter anyone from seeing the movie, but that by itself is no good reason to inculde him in the movie.
Okay, then how about a good story reason? Banner is the only Avengers member who doesn't want to be superhuman. He sees the Hulk as a curse, whereas Stark, Rogers, Thor and the rest see their abilities as gifts. Ergo, the team and movie will be more interesting for Banner's presence, not less. And it's good business, as I said.

So, donde esta la problema? :p

No. At least, not in a major role. Maybe a cameo. But as far as we know, neither Ant-Man or the Wasp will be in it.
if ever there was a character suited to small roles

as long as Bruce/The Hulk doesnt make me wish I was watching a Transformers movie, then taking into account the comc book history, ill consider him a worthy inculsion, to the movie.

Back to Ant Man, I think he could be very useful to the Avengers, however if he would be useful in a movie, is another question.

right im off

Balls! I'm not seeing it now! :p

Does anybody know if the Hulk will be the intelligent variety in this film? I haven't read the early Avenger books, despite lusting over a copy of Avengers #1 at the local comic shop when I was young. So I don't know if he was the dumb brute Hulk in the comic. If he was, I don't see how he'd be an effective team member.

Marvel is waiting for Edgar Wright to complete his "Ant-Man" draft before they green light a movie with him. He's supposed to direct the film. Pym was mentioned indirectly I think in "Thor" and there was heavy speculation before Joss came out and confirmed that he would not be appearing in the movie that Nathan Fillion had been approached and accepted playing Hank Pym. In fact some sites came out and said that he and Eva Longoria were going to be playing Hank and Janet.

I'm psyched to see the Hulk in this. He's my favourite character of the lot. Can't wait to see Ruffalo's take on it. I just hope he gets as much screen time as the rest of the characters, since he wasn't in the teaser at all. Although there has been speculation that Loki will trick the Hulk into killing a bunch of people and the rest of the team will have to hunt him down.

I am totally thrilled with the idea of the Hulk being in this movie. I enjoyed TIH (hated the ang lee mess) and I sweat at the prospect of a Hulk Thor battle on the big screen!! Did you see the animated Hulk vs Thor?? That was fantastic!! Bring on the Hulk! Hulk Smash Haters!!!

Weedon's categorically stated Ant-Man is not in The Avengers.

why pick on the Hulk? why not pick on Black Widow and Hawkeye? they shouldn't be in The Avengers, they didn't appear in the comics until later, Hulk was there day 1!

pfft. it's like the idiot fanboys moaning about Wolverine and Storm being in X-1 not Beast, Angel or an adult Iceman. the film-makers use who they want.

Even though it was the least successful MCU movie, The Incredible Hulk was still a financial success: it actually exceeded expectations of how well it would do. And it's actually a damn good movie too.

Anyway, the Hulk is cool. The Hulk being there in The Avengers can't hurt in the slightest.

I should add as well that I am particularly fond of "The Incredible Hulk". It's much better than the Ang Lee "Hulk" which has it's moments but really wasn't the type of film that Hulk fans wanted to see. Ed Norton was great as Bruce Banner, and I really hope that Liv Tyler returns as Betty Ross (as much as I love Jenny Connelly, Tyler was the better Betty) for a sequel.

Yes he was...

There he is in the background

We don't see the Hulk in the teaser, most likely 'cause the CGI wouldn't be ready yet, but Ruffalo is in it.

He was intelligent but cranky. The "dumb" Hulk was introduced a little later in his own title. I think Ferrigno is doing the voice again, so he'll probably be laconic. Hopefully he'll have more dialogue than in previous movies, though.

Although there has been speculation that Loki will trick the Hulk into killing a bunch of people and the rest of the team will have to hunt him down.
That would be a concern of mine. If they're going to have the Hulk responsible for killing civilians then they might as well make Cap a serial killer. (Ultimate Hulk was entertaining, but he's like the MU Hulk's evil twin.) It might be acceptable if the Hulk's body is being controlled by an outside force, though.

All Hulk wants is to be left alone after all! Everyone pick on Hulk! Hulk Smash!!!
:)

"Incredible" was definitely a much better movie than "Hulk", but it still didn't blow me away. Part of the problem is the Abomination isn't a very good villain, most of the Hulk baddies aren't. But showing Hulk fighting the Avengers? That would be bad ass. Actually while I was watching Incredible, knowing Downey cameoed in the movie, I was dearly hoping Iron Man would make a shocking appearance in the final fight- that would have been so cool and all it would take was a little extra CGI!

Does anyone know if the Hulk is still going to be a CGI portrayal? I read something recently where Ruffalo said that he was going to be able to play Hulk, and that he had gone on a diet and beefed up somewhat for that.

I know Lou's going to do the voice, but I was surprised by Ruffalo's comment, unless he's indicating that he's going to do the motion-capture work.

I agree with everything you say here, except for one point: The Incredible Hulk is not the least successful Marvel Studios picture. That dubious honor belongs to Punisher: War Zone which brought in 10 mil worldwide vs a 35 mil production budget.

And don't forget. The old HULK tv show is still fondly remembered by a generation of moviegoers, and Hulk himself is one of the Marvel's most well-known characters.

I think it would be a mistake to judge the character's popularity simply on the basis of the last two movies.

I mean, the previous three CAPTAIN AMERICA movies were all dreadful, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't have made the new one.

The Hulk is still goin' to be CGI. There's no reason for Ruffalo to be muscled up for the role as Bruce Banner. He may have just been makin' a joke.

The motion capture is sure to be a few steps up from what was used for The Incredible Hulk, where Edward Norton & Tim Roth both did the motion capture for their characters.

And, to put it in perspective, Ang Lee, a chubby, middle aged director, did the motion capture for Hulk, so, yeah...I'm guessin' Ruffalo was goin' for humor with his comments.

Marvel Studios has only produced Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor & Captain America: The First Avenger, and is currently producin' The Avengers.

Punisher: War Zone (and every other movie usin' Marvel characters) was produced by another studio who paid Marvel for the rights to use those characters. That's why FOX put out Wolverine & First Class and Sony is puttin' out a new Spider-Man - as long as they produce films usin' the characters, they keep the rights.

Recently, the rights for the Punisher are back with Marvel, so unless they shop 'em out again, the next movie will be from Marvel Studios.

I swear that when War Zone was released, I read that it was a joint venture between lionsgate and Marvel Studios. Financed partly by Marvel and allowing them to include him in their movies going forward, basically a half step to getting the character back 100%. Of course, now I can't find anything to back this up, so... mea culpa.

Well, that makes sense. It did seem strange to be a strange break in continuity for them to go from a full-blown CGI Hulk to going back to portraying Hulk the TV way.

I'm still glad that they've got Ferrigno to voice him though. Nice touch.

something i read recently said that the Avengers Hulk will be a bit flabbier and not as athletic looking as the Norton and Bana Hulks, the person quoted was saying that he's been Hulk a few years and isn't so lean any more.
