This thread is for anybody who after all these years still feels great disappointment over Alien3

People make a big deal about how great a director David Fincher is but this film is a misfire onso many levels I can’t understand how it generates any praise at all]
[The most oft sited is the casual dispatching of Hicks and Newt in the first five minutes but [there so much more]

Populating the film with unlikable characters who are so completely interchangeable with their bald heads and British accents that they are cypers[

Never a clear explanation on how the Face Huggers came to be aboard

Taking the hero you’ve invested three movies in and giving her the worst possible ending for her story arc that needed to be partially undone in the next movie and even so the “real” Ripley is gone.

Damn, I don’t know how this movie got made. It was like taking everything good about the first two movies and then trying to create the exact opposite

Yeah - one of my all time most hated elements of 3 - bald, faceless, nameless, interchangeable black guys running through dark corridors.

You don't know who they are so you CANNOT care.

One of the most disappointing things about 3 is when you realize Weaver herself came up with several of the ideas - she wanted three things for the franchise,

A bald Ripley
Ripley fucking an alien
Ripley dying

Two of those things happened in 3 and the sex scene happened in 4. I am one of those people who stands up for actors but, in this case I have to say she had NO RIGHT having ANY say in the story development of these films.

Oh and I forgot to add - the WORST effects ever for an alien film with the superimposed dog-alien scuttling around on ceilings. With mismatched lighting and clear matting it stands out like shit on a white bed sheet.

Woefully bad.

I rewatched all the Alien films not too long ago and was actually surprised at how much I liked Alien3. It definitely could have been better, but I actually liked the resolution it brought to Ripley's character.

It doesn't measure up to its predecessors, but it's a worthy film in its own right, with some wonderful character work for Ripley. The death of Newt and Hicks is a note-perfect opening for the film. It's infinitely superior to Alien Resurrection.

Either the queen can lay eggs without her egg sac, they were placed there by a worker when no one was looking, Bishop had some back-up agenda programming and betrayed everyone.

I not sure how initially succesful franchises have so much trouble even getting good sequel scripts made. Indiana Jones, Alien, *cough*Starwars*cough*, Star Trek... are they that hard to write for?

Completely agree. I always thought it was underrated, and certainly much better than the terribly disappointing Resurrection. For all the studio interference, Fincher managed to craft a solid film IMO.

alien three is ok. it has some problems but thats the studios fault. alien three is very daring if you watch it alone. forget alien and aliens. its a pretty solid movie.

The complaint about the prisoners is sort of moot when you watch the Special Edition. It gave them more screentime and development so the important ones all got actual characterization and personalities. At least they weren't all hammy stereotypes like the Marines were.

The cast of the first movie were the best in terms of acting and characterization though.

The FX, they were rushed by FOX and thus weren't given the time or money to make the Alien FX look right with the rest of the movie's composition. Plus the techniques they were using (it wasn't CGI) were groundbreaking at the time so it was harder work than just using animatronics.

In RES, but it's not really a sex scene. There's a bit where she's being carried by an alien to the Queen but the way it's shot you think it's humping her or something.

I appreciate the movie in principle but there are some sequences that I just don't like.

Newt's autopsy is a bit gruesome for my taste.

The big chase scene where they're trying to drive the alien into the furnace is not suspenseful. You can't tell who any of these bald prisoners are and you can't really figure out the geography of where they're running.

That's my theory. The Alien Queen already kinda bends logic at times. I still don't see how she could fit inside that tiny elevator or how she was able to slip into the drop ship without anyone noticing. If she's able to do those things, I don't have any problem with her also somehow laying eggs around the Sulacco while no one was looking.

I liked it. Not as much as 1 and 2, but I thought it was a decent ending, if dark.

I have to agree. Alien 3, while not perfect, is very underrated. It definitely feels like a natural ending for the saga; if you keep going up against the xenomorphs and winning they start losing their menace as a bad guy.

Alien 3 was a great film. Resurrection was pants.
