The Animals That Aren't Dogs or Cats Thread

Actually, that’s part of the camouflage… His tail has fake black spots to make predators think that’s his head, etc., while the bright coloration is also deceptive. Bright colors underwater are Mother Nature’s way of saying, ‘Stay away, I’m poisonous/toxic’.

Sorry for the lecture and nothing condescending meant by it, just trivia for anyone passing through… :techman:

Not at all, I'm always happy to learn a new thing. I know those brightly colored jungle tree frogs are poisonous as well. It's like a big middle finger from nature. "You can see me, but you can't eat me".

I found this picture that I'd saved a few years ago.

When I first saw it online, it looked incredibly alien and fierce.

But that's because the lower part was offscreen!

Here's the complete picture:

Okay, it was a cat!
Which, I guess, is exactly the (evolutionary) idea: to intimidate one's enemies.
It looks like the cat is watching you, even when he isn't!

^^^ Is that for real?? If so, how sad. Hollywood might not have run out of ideas, but they sure certainly don't have any good ideas.
