The Amazing Race Season 17 - (Season Wide Discussion)

It wasn't much of an episode, really. It's not like we had no idea who the final three were going to be, after all. ;)

It kind of reminded me of really early seasons, actually, with one team being so far behind from the get-go that they had no hope of catching up. They probably would have been in it, too, if Nick hadn't given up in the last leg and forced them to take the penalty.

Anyway, I'll be happy if either Nat and Kat, or Brook and Claire win. Jill and Thomas are just dull.

Yeah, it was pretty clear cut who the final 3 would be, Nick and Vicki were WAY behind. But I did get a little worried when Brooke and Clair had to take the penalty. Gotta read the clue guys!

No discussion on the final 3?

I'm glad the home shopping network girls got in

Nick and Vicki had to go, and it was Nicks fault, man he's mean to her

The whole season has been nothing but partner abuse...not what I would call entertaining. The casting people need to get their act together.

I'm especially not surprised at the lack of discussion regarding last week's episode. It was basically just dragging out what we knew would happen after Nick and Vicki missed the first flight.

They probably would have been in it, too, if Nick hadn't given up in the last leg and forced them to take the penalty.

Yep. They would have been tied post-plane-flight, and we would have been stuck with watching Nick abuse Vicki in the finals.

They seem to be setting up the finals as, "Will an all-woman team finally win, or will the boy take it from them?"

I wonder if I'm the only one here watching Asia 4. The ending with the Indonesians was disappointing, but the daughter was kind of stupid to let her father - who fell off a tightrope once - take the road block. Maybe "out on a limb" doesn't translate well, but jeez - she was yelling at him to do the task, but it was silly to force him to do it in the first place.
Also, Amazing Race in HD is awesome. I guess I'm looking forward to the US version being broadcast in HD, but at this point I'm looking forward to the next Allan Wu season.

I still find it strange that giving up is "allowed" in the Asia races. Maybe they're allowed in the US races but the producers tell them not to do it unless something really bad happens.

I actually had no problem with the results for TARAsia 4. Not my favorite team, but they did fine. I still liked China Rush more.

I am always looking forward to Allan.

Damn I have to seriously disagree. This season has had the least amount of conflict within teams of any season of TAR (at least US versions). Trust me as some one who has literally counted verbal incidents between teammates, physical interactions, ect.

Hell we have had seasons where just one team generated more internal conflict then the full cast of this season.

Oh and technically Nick didn't force them to take the penalty. Vicki could have kept on looking she stopped (not defending Nick, but it did take two people to agree to stop) as she was physically exhausted and emotionally exhausted as well, by the time they got to the point of Nick throwing in the towel they were already hours behind any other team, including Brook & Claire.

I do have to admit I don't like the pre final press. I understand them pushing the women finally winning angle, but there has been a serious lack of press about Jill & Thomas. Jill & Thomas so far this season have not only the better record, but when you break apart the episodes (removing things like equalization, ect) they have raced better then the other two teams, occasionally a team that wins a leg doesn't actually run the better leg.

Heck even if they come in third, neither other team's record would be better as far as over all placement.

Seems like there's controversy over the Richards winning over on the sucks forum, of course. :lol
It really was the most anti-climatic ending though. They tried to salvage it with editing tricks, but there was no urgency there. It's like that early TAR where one team took a wrong flight from Hawaii and was basically remote eliminated.
The final task was really lame though.
Hopefully the ending of TAR is a bit more exciting tonight.

Funny though, next season we'll have All Stars 2 and Australia to watch.

Usually there is one of the final three teams that I hate and want to lose, but this season I like all three so I don't even care who wins.

Am I the only that thinks the teams should have to navigate themselves in the destination city?

Seriously, it should be less about getting the right taxi driver and more about your own navigation skills.

On another note, I'll be happy as long as Brooke and Claire don't win. I can't stand them.

I agree in principle, but there may be legal reasons why they can't drive in a particular city. This is world-spanning race, after all.

Oh, I certainly agree with that. But for the final destination city, they should be driving themselves.

Although the helicopter ride was cool.

Man, screwed by lack of the internet. That's so unfair.

Also, they need to stop with the fake out editing. It's infuriating when it's obvious that one team is so ahead of the others. If they really want to keep the teams closer, they need to have more equalizers and have less games of chance.

Of course, I think I'm just more sensitive to it because of how Asia ended. But it just turns a somewhat classy reality TV show into something trashy.

"Do you know what the internet is?" "No."

"I have GPS."

And then when they stop:

"Can we use your internet?"

"What?"

Welcome back to the United States.

Hush you.

One of the best things the producers have ever done is getting rid of the mid leg equalizers during the final leg. Win lose or draw its up to your skill and your luck.

I mean the finale leg, the leg where you can win a million dollars should be the hardest to win, not the easiest.

I think back to all the seasons 1-11, where you could run a stronger over all leg, and get hit with an equalizer and leaving you just one task left and its win or nothing. I hate that so much...

While I was bored with this episode, I will take this over artificially leveling the playing field every single time.

I wanted Brooke and Clair to win, but I guess 2nd isn't too bad. Glad to see an all female team win finally.

That's the thing - I wouldn't mind if they just didn't try to create drama with the "xxxxtreme" editing between the two teams. It's obvious that they're nowhere near each other but they have to play this game about the "traffic being bad and they might catch up!". It just makes the show feel much more produced than it already is - ie, when they decide to create villains and heroes in the show (homophobic cowboys, for example).

I just feel like my intelligence is being insulted, which is not what I expect when I watch a travel porn show.

The right team won. Nat and Kat were one of the more consistent teams all year and they were really easy to root for. As for Brook and Claire coming in second, that's not too bad, even though I was rooting for them too because they were just so lovable. Looking forward to the new season already and the whole Second Chance thing.
