The Amazing Race Season 17 - (Season Wide Discussion)

It's funny this season is the season I have liked more teams than any other in its 17 seasons. There have been other seasons where I just really loved certain teams, but there really hasn't been a team so far that I don't like, that I think behavior or actions make me want to see them get run over. Of course the season isn't over yet, and I still haven't watched tonights episode.

MsWood,

I actually agree with you about the UTurn. One of the nice things about The Amazing Race that sets it apart from other shows like it is your destiny is in your hands. There's no alliances, no popularity contest, no chance of a Bristol Palin being in the finals even though she probably sucks worse than her competition, but it's a purely individual thing. The UTurn takes something away from that and it shouldn't impact this race. Also, the people are so uptight if they get U-turned and take it personally. Yeah, it sucks, but unfortunately it is part of the game.

So glad Brook/Claire and Nat/Kat survived the U-Turn tonight. Would have sucked to see one of them go home. Right now the team I hope doesn't win is Nick and Vicki since if they do it might just be on a technicality since they were originally "Supposed" to be eliminated. That, and any team that doesn't know what the word "Taken" means shouldn't be winners of 1 million dollars.

This has been one of the best seasons of The Amazing Race. Does anybody know if The New Amazing Race Wii game is any good?? Please advise???? ASAP!!!

I'm going to assume it'll be a horrible trivia game with mini games for the challenges. These games usually are, I'm afraid. :(

Better to spend your time tracking down the Asian/Chinese versions of AR and watch those instead. They're in English too!

I really really liked this first season of China Rush. Haven't started yet on current Asia though, probably will once this season ends.

What I don't understand is why CBS never adds an hour of buffer programming in case the game goes over. Fox never seems to have the same problem because they have a sports wrap-up program at 7 PM. CBS goes straight into 60 Minutes and they are not willing to shorten it to keep evening programming on schedule.

Ugh... Nick & Vicki are still in the race. Nick is completely and utterly useless. He didn't do anything this episode except complain while Vicki was the one doing everything and trying to keep up despite her asthma.

At this point, the only team that I'm hoping wins this season is Nat and Kat.

God I CANNOT believe the douchebag team have gotten TWO non-elims now!!!

I think they(or HE)must be THE MOST undeserving team to ever have that happen. They just seem to have so much damned luck!!!

Oh well, I'd be happy for any of the other three teams to win it so I have a three in four chance of being happy in a couple of weeks!

Sadly, Nick and Vicki must go, because of Nick. He gave up, Vicki endured that eating challange, and went through all of that, but Nick couldn't take the time to search boats for a number? come on, he has no respect for her, and certainly is not nice, he needs to go

The challanges were pretty hard! I liked them, I'm not sure I'd be able to find the fake food thing, i'm not familiar with all those foods, I don't eat that kinda stuff.

China is beautiful at night.

I'm rooting for Brooke and Claire. However, Clair is obviously the weak link in that team. They wouldn't win in a run to the finish line. Brooke is hot. That is all.

Jeez, what a whiny jackass Nick was. He should have realized that the task wasn't going to be quick or easy when they saw Brook and Claire still at it. And they could have at least taken a shot at the other detour before giving up and taking the 6 hour penalty.

I'm rooting for Nat and Kat but I'll be happy as long as Nick doens't win. Too Vicki didn't have a better racing partner.

When did The Amazing Race become the "abusive/asshole boyfriend" show? I feel like every episode should end with a counseling session.

Vicki needs to dump that loser she is with. He treats her like crap every show and at the end he wants to apologize to her. I can't believe he just gave up like that after telling her to eat all that nasty food. She should have hit him in the head with that light and threw him overboard.

^ I'd pay money to see that! I really like Vicki, she's sweet, but that Nick loser is a disrespecting jerk. She needs to kick him to the curb after the game.

Well to be fair, the reason they were last one episode was due to production error. They would not have been the last to arrive at the Pit Stop.

And the reason Vicki had to do the Food Roadblock is that Nick has done all that he is allowed to do. While it's true that he can be an ass (and was in this episode) he has done more then 50% of the work up to this point. Now clearly I hate to see any team or team member quit, but he is hardly the first (and I am sure he wont be the last).

And we have had to actually teams that have won the race, who were legitimately saved by non elimination twice. Flo & Zach (and Nick is 100 times more in the race and productive then Flo was) and BJ & Tyler who also won yet were saved by non eliminations twice.

And Nick wasn't telling her to eat all the food, in fact he told her to take more time before picking up anything, so she wouldn't have to eat so much. And was all for quitting instead of her being sick all episode (on that I actually agree I really dislike tasks that seem geared to make people vomit, luckily TAR is a lot better about this, they used to every season have a tasks where most of the racers were vomiting, a lot!).

And again the reason she was in that position is that Nick can't do anymore Roadblocks, he has done his six.

The funny thing is that (And I like them) Brook is actually pretty hard on Claire. Besides Nick, she is actually the worst partner as far as driving her partner and not listening to their partner concerning their limits.

Besides Nick, no other partner this season has been consistently on their partner.

I mean seriously Claire is complaining that she's about to throw up and Brook is all put out, and giving Claire attitude. Its only when she see's Claire actually puke out her guts that she gets compassionate. Claire from the very first episode, is telling her to stop yelling at her, that she isn't as fast, and she can't keep up. And Brook to this day yells at her, and is all so.

Compare the attitude she gives Claire right before she pukes, and look at uber competitive racer Colin when Christie is eating the caviar, and he is more compassionate to her, Colin! Freddy & Kendra when Freddy is tossing is cookies all over the floor, on his clothes, in the food he still has to eat, and queen of the insensitive Kendra is all about compassion, before he actually gets sick. I mean seriously Brook is worse then those two, and thats so not a good thing.

I find it highly odd that if you switched Brook's gender and made her a man, a lot f fans would be yelling what an asshole she is.

There is just so much of a double standard on what we judge women can say that men can't to a women.

Take David & Mary, the country loved them. Yet MAry was constantly insulting David, yelling at him to do what she says, telling him how he is screwing up,, and literally pushing him around physically. Yet very few people call her behavior out. Yet you see a man do that same thing to a women, and the fans want blood. Even if both couples say that they are really in love.

Sometimes people like Claire need to be pushed though, if they win a million, it will have been worth it. I don't see Brooke as being mean or hard on Claire, she is really trying to motivate her and keep her going, Claire seems to just need that to keep going, and it has worked, she has been pushed farther than she would on her own it seems. Obviously she's the weaker player and needs the extra push.

This contrasts with Nick, who just gives up and really is mean to Vicki and says many hateful things.

There is a big difference. Brooke hasn't said anything hateful to her partner like Nick has repeatedly to his partner.

Oh I wasn't comparing Brook to Nick (I even go out of my way saying Nick is a far worse partner) more Brook to most of the guys who are teamed with women who get accused of being insensitive, aggressive, controlling and demanding. Having unreasonable expectations on the abilities of their partners. And Brook fits the Bill. We have had in the last three episodes multiple accounts of Claire getting nearly to tears telling her partner show can't go any further, and we have Brook getting pissed at her about it. Yes the hug it out later, but if we see men do this with women its really often called being abusive. And its something common to all most every single episode.

Yet when we see a guy move a women to near tears trying to get better performance out of her, you literally see a lot of comments about his inappropriate behavior.

Brook even talks about how she isn't being reasonable with Claire. That she's holding her not to the level that she can achieve, but getting made that she can't match Brook's level. And Brook is a fitness nut, Claire isn't.

I am just trying to point out that you look at some teams (and trust me I have looked at a lot of teams in depth over the years), and fans can be really one sided in the behaviors that men can do that women can't.

Look at Nick for example (and I call him an ass, not in all episode, but in at least three he has crossed my personal line in what you can and shouldn't say to another person that your are supposed to be close to and not be an ass for doing it), and compare him to some women racers who have given up on the race. Flo certainly comes to mind because she is queen in that department. And the things she said to Zach throughout the season going from loving friend to mean hearted demanding shrill, often all in one episode). Yet there are people who love Flo. Who love the team of Flo and Zach. And Flo episode per episode has been far worse then Nick has. And Flo isn't the only example, they are many women who have thrown tantrums, named called their partners and set back and let their partner do everything. Yet rarely do we as fans dog on them.

I just marathoned through Asia season 3 since season 4 has a recap this week. It was really fun and I liked the teams (except for the models, but they got eliminated early). Having two back to back non-elims was crazy, as were the old rules (marked for elimination, losing all your money)... and so many people have given up on tasks and took the four hour penalty.
I honestly don't remember a US season having people give up on tasks, so it was strange to see people willingly take the penalty after a while.
It's also the first time I've seen tasks just end because of outside circumstances. One task ended because the store was closing and another because of lightning.

It's strange but I really do think having an international cast makes the show more interesting to me for some reason. The Asian focus probably helps as well, because I'm just more interested in seeing Asian countries than I am in European countries. :lol

No discussion on the final 3?

I'm glad the home shopping network girls got in

Nick and Vicki had to go, and it was Nicks fault, man he's mean to her
