The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

The Pertwee in the red jacket...is that a "custom" or did you manage to get the "13 Doctors" window box set?

Also, born on July 7, 1919? Rather cool how 3 different digits were repeated.

No, it's not a custom and I did not get that 13 Doctors box. I have not yet watched all classic Doctors and am not sure if I ever will, so having their figures seems "wrong".

He actually came together with the TARDIS, it was this B&M exclusive box set not too long ago. I got it off ebay for a rational price. If you are only after the figure and not the TARDIS, I see a loose one on ebay.

That is indeed an odd number! I also have read his autobiography "Moon boots and dinner suits" (apparently Sean came up with the name). It's about his early time as an actor on stage and in radio and also his time in the war. He could have been dead more than once and then we would have had no Third Doctor - and no Sean as Alfred Pennyworth either! I rather don't want to think about it.

A German movie producer just died at the age of almost 101 years old.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that B&M set because it was exclusive to that chain (British based) and it does not have an online presence. Meaning, we "bloody colonists" couldn't get it except through after market resellers. Shoot, many customers who were able to visit B&M could not get it because scalpers swooped in to purchase entire supplies and resell them at hugely inflated prices. Really, I'm not exaggerating. There was a bit of a fuss at Gallifrey Base about this problem when the set was first released. A member found a Facebook entry where someone photographed a "haul" of some 20 to 30 sets, bragging how he was going to "make a fortune" from desperate fans. Obviously, not all resellers are like that, but there were enough to deprive many customers who just wanted a single box.

I checked out eBay and there was a "loose" red jacket Pertwee for 28 bucks (before shipping) which is not that much more than "going prices" for carded figures these days. Pertwee in his red jacket has been something of a "holy grail" for fans because Character Options didn't release one when the company's sales were "cresting". I don't really care about the police box. I have both versions of the "deluxe" sound and lights "Flight Control", both the "Tennant" style and the Capaldi box. But my favorite for appearance (though having just the illuminated "lamp" and a truncated mat/demat sound sequence) is the Unearthly Child variant which came with a William Hartnell figurine wearing his blue striped scarf and black cap. I have two of them, one of which I keep at my desk at work with a 12th series Tom Baker figurine. Yeah, technically, they're a mismatch, but Tom Baker's my favorite (and first) Doctor and I just like the look of that original box as designed by Peter Brachacki. His version most closely matched the real life Mark II metro' boxes conceived by McKenzie-Trench in terms of overall detail if not size. (It had to be built small enough so the parts could fit in the studio's elevator.)

I have the Tenth Doctor's Flight Control TARDIS as well! It was the very first merchandise I purchased from that series. With it came Ten and Martha and we only had been up to season 2 in Germany at the time so I did not even know who Martha was.

I always take the batteries out for storage so they won't leak. One day I wanted to put them back in but instead of opening the battery holder I somehow unscrewed the whole bottom... I only realized when all the mechanics fell into my lap in pieces. I still am amazed by myself that I managed to put it all back in there and the door opening mechanism is still working! And I didn't even use a sonic screwdriver.

This B&M TARDIS does not make any sound though, I first was confused as it did seem to have a battery box but it's sealed.

I assume shipping to America is the same increased price like shipping from America. Which is why I prefer buying from the UK when possible.

I agree they should put a limit on them and not sell 30 boxes to one person. That's ridiculous. Same with tickets for concerts or theatre performances. They put personalized names on it now.

Side note! Robbie Williams did a concert in my home-city. Tickets sold quickly and probably lots of scalpers thinking they could make a fortune. But Robbie Williams just added a second date and many official ones were available again.

I don't know what the original retail price was but I got the set for £37.00 which is still considerably less than the £80 I also saw in the beginning but the more turned up the lower the prices got.

From which episode is the red jacket? I still have a lot ahead of me and don't remember if I have seen it already or not.

You reassembled a "Flight Control" TARDIS toy to a functional state?! That is amazing! I've read "horror stories" about fans wanting to try a slight mod, open the thing and then were never able to properly reassemble thing with all (or sometimes, "any") features working. Talk about your "German engineering"! :techman:

I'll have to do a bit of research to recall in which serials Pertwee wore the red jacket. I think some people believe he wore it more often than he really did because the color really caught the eye. But I remember during the height of DW figurine sales, fans were continually hoping for a red jacket "variant".

EDIT: I actually found a site that offers a "breakdown" of costume alterations for every Doctor. Here's the page devoted to Pertwee.

http://www.3rddoctorcostume.com/2009/10/costume-changes-season-seven.html

And here's my quick notation.

Series 8 (second year of Pertwee)

Terror Of The Autons

The Mind Of Evil

Claws of Axos

The Daemons

Series 9 (Pertwee's 3rd year)

Day Of The Daleks

The Curse Of Peladon

The Mutants

The Time Monster

Series 10 (4th year)

The Three Doctors

Series 11 (5th and last year)

Planet Of The Spiders

Actually, it seems he wore it quite a bit. I can now see why the exclusion of that figurine variant would concern a fair number of fans.

While waiting for "Stranger Things" season 3 to arrive on Netflix Chief Hopper reads about his adventures in New York in the novel "Darkness on the Edge of Town" by Adam Christopher.

Also, today is World UFO day.

"No, you can't keep him."

I keep waiting for them to release a Hopper figure in the smaller scale.

Back in May, my youngest nephew asked for more Guardians of the Galaxy action figures, since he only had Star-Lord.

So, I went on eBay and bought the Marvel Legends Mantis BAF series from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 for about a hundred bucks, and gave him the Nebula figure, since I already had it. I also bought the Star-Lord / Ego two-pack online for him. And will be getting others for him for Christmas.

As for my purchase, I'm telling y'all, this is how I'm buying BAF series from now on, all at once. So cool to put the BAF together at once, instead of getting an arm here, leg there, body to put them together somewhere else.

I got tired of waiting for official merchandise so I made my own Ed Mercer from "The Orville".
I took a Spike body (already had the Wesley head from another custom).

A lot of stuff had to be cut away. It's a nice figure and I was sorry to destroy it but I really wanted an Ed.

I needed to cut a lot at the backside, they had this so the coat would flow but the jacket needed to be tighter.

I smoothed out all the crinkles in the sleeves and pants with Milliput. I also later added the collar and details like the comm at the sleeve. And I cut a little triangle into the t-shirt at the neck.

I also changed the hands with wide-spread fingers to more closed fists.

Originally I had just wanted to paint him blue but then I found this cloth and painted that, which gives the uniform a bit texture. Not shown: I also had to alter the hairline of the original head plus make the blue eyes brown.

Messy desk!

My mom and I are going to make Star Trek costumes for my dolls. My 60s doll, Melody, is going to dress up as Uhura, and one of my blonde dolls will be Nurse Chapel.

Isobel has a problem with some tribbles!

I have a ton of photos to post. I mostly post them on Instagram and Facebook now, but I promise I'll try to share some here! I have two dolls coming to me for my birthday on Friday...many photos will be taken.

The line with Kirk and Picard in the first wave? As far as I know the Spock and Michael Burnham are still on the way.

WANT!!!

If true that sucks. I was kinda looking forward to seeing them, particularly the Spock.

I don't collect Marvel Legends but this Comic-Con-exclusive 2-pack set looks awesome.

Found at Wal-Mart this morning. Back when I was a kid, on the rare occasion that my dad would let me get comic books from the flea market in Stephenville, this was my version of Cyclops. I would look for the comics with him in this uniform. Still one of my favorite looks for the character.
