The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

Titans Class Devastator Confimred at Toyfair. Estimated to be about 18 inches.

Also Combiner Wars Technobots, Protectobots and Combaticons were confirmed as was a Combiner Wars Cyclonus remolded from Combiner Wars Silverbolt. Limbs are probably all going to be remolds of existing Combiner Wars limbs.

Don't forget about Leader class Ultra Magnus being confirmed!

According to info relayed from the Neuremberg toy fair, Streetwise, First Aid, and Rook from the Protectobots are all new molds. Rook is supposedly a six-wheeled SWAT-type armored carrier, and the description of Streetwise makes him sound an awful lot like mold mates with Lightspeed of the Technobots.

Venkata, the user over on TFW who provided a lot of advance info about Devastator and a couple of other figures, stated the other day that there's one more leader class toy yet to be revealed on top of the already-announced Megatron, Thundercracker, and (first leaked, then) just announced Magnus. Pretty excited to find out who it might be.

My only real nitpick at this point is Mixmaster. I agree with some fans that it's odd for Hasbro to give him a completely new form (and not necessarily a bad one) that looks weird in the combined form, while everything else is pretty G1 accurate. I suppose there is a possibility that whichever company (companies?) make the older model of truck would prefer the design not be used, as was the case with Volkswagen not letting Movie Bumblebee keep his G1 design. I'll keep an open mind, but it just seems like an odd change.

Thought I'd rearrange things to celebrate the recent Marvel/Sony deal :)

As of right now the only new Hasbro Star Wars toys worth mentioning are the Chewbacca Furby and a new build-your-own-lightsaber modular construction toy line that actually looks like it'd be a whole lot of fun for kids and some adults. Any 3.75," six-inch and other action figures won't be unveiled until later today at the earliest once the collecting websites start posting photos and reports from the displays on the showroom floor. We already know there won't be any Episode VII toys revealed, but Lego is making a new Emperor's Throne Room set that includes at least five characters.

It looks like no advanced "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" toy previews at Toy Fair this weekend as Hasbro's slate has been revealed and nothing Episode VII appears to be on it. I would assume they're holding out for SDDC which makes sense.

That's what a lot of us have been told for some time now. Don't expect the official reveals of any Episode VII figures - even early Sneak Preview characters - until the summer or late spring, depending on when Hasbro wants to say anything about what they've been working on.
I'm inclined to think that we won't see anything from Hasbro until the next trailer is released that reveals more about the movie, including scenes with Luke, Han, and Leia.

Apparently there's going to be a reveal of a 6"-scale Star Wars ship or vehicle at Toy Fair. The most common opinion is that it might be a 6" TIE Fighter to go with the new figure that was just released (and other Imperials and bad guys if you're so inclined) but I'd prefer if it were Luke's Landspeeder whether it came packaged with a Farmboy Luke figure and some of his weapons and accessories or not. For starters, a Landspeeder even if it came with a new Luke figure would be significantly cheaper than a big TIE Fighter and probably an easier product to sell, especially with all the OT and classic Kenner fans out there who'd love to grab one and for a somewhat reasonable price.

More pictures from Toyfair:

Devastator. Height is confirmed at 18 inches!

The individual Constructicons are almost entirely accurate to the G1 cartoon. Size wise reportedly Scrapper alone is 9 inches plus.

Mixmaster & Hook

Longhaul

Scrapper

Bonecrusher

Scavenger

The Protectobots. Almost all of them are remolds or planned remolds.

Hotspot (planned to be remolded as the confirmed Onslaught)

Groove, downgraded from a limb to a legends add-on

Blades(remolded Alpha Bravo and probably Vortex and BlastOff)

Streetwise (a remolded Stunticon Dead-end)

Rook (probably intended to be remolded as Brawl) & First Aid (remolded Stunticon Offroad as well as probably Swindle).

Defensor

Also the unveiled Leader Class Ultra Magnus, which is based on the IDW version.

His gimmick is that the chest/cab section opens up to hold the tiny robot with the actual UM being a suit of armor.

Voyager Cyclonus, sadly not based on the IDW version. Also a remold of Silverbolt. Reportedly the combined mold becomes Galvatron.

Funko's Toy Fair display, which includes 6" Firefly figures! Finally, some decent quality Firefly figures (the old Serenity ones had those god-awful "likenesses", so they don't count).

In addition to the Firefly figures, their 6-inchers on display include characters from Game of Thrones, The Rocketeer (my brother is a big fan), Magic the Gathering, the Book of Life and The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Also on display are some bobbleheads and and some of their their ReAction figures. Displayed properties in their ReAction display include The Karate Kid, Breaking Bad, Arrow, The Flash, Tomorrowland, Star Trek, Scarface, The Fifth Element, Big Trouble in Little China, and Taxi Driver.

Here's the DC Collectibles gallery. The "media based" lines shown include Batman TAS (including the Batmobile!), Arrow, The Flash, and the Arkham games.

NECA's showroom. Planet of the Apes classic, Alien, Predator, Pacific Rim, Christopher Reeve's Superman, Guardians of the Galaxy, Terminator, Tim Burton's Batman movies, etc.

Jakks Pacific's Star Wars display

Hasbro's 6-inch Marvel Legends display

Gentle Giant is making 12" jumbo Batman TAS figures

Diamond Select displayed their Gotham figures. No photos available.

I love Toy Fair.

The Hasbro Star Wars presentation at Toy Fair was a complete fizzle and lasted just a few minutes. The only product on display on the showroom floor was stuff we already knew about and/or has already been released except for some 6" figures that we don't even have packaged images of yet (Emperor Palpatine, Luke in Stormtrooper Disguise, IG-88, Leia in Boushh Disguise).

The Jakks Pacific display was very impressive though, and they really knocked their upcoming lineup of figures out of the ballpark. Their new R2-D2, Yoda and Bossk in particular look fantastic.

New Ghostbusters figures are coming! This time by Diamond Select. Pics of Ray and Winston here.

I already have the guys from Mattel's line, but I might snag these too. Diamond Select makes good stuff.

That Ray and Winston look amazing! Those might be the best Ghostbusters toys I've ever seen!

some of the new Marvel Legends stuff looks good. gold and black Iron Man, modern Dr Strange, Valkyrie and Vision all look nice.

Thanks for the update. :techman: I'm not a huge fan of Mixmaster's new vehicle mode, as I still think they could have easily done a G1 style truck rather than using a mode based on the animation model which was designed to be simplified in many ways. Someone suggested that it was possibly a change made to keep Mixmaster more in scale and better supported than a G1 type mold would have been, and that's possible. But I'll still nitpick it. :p ;)

Defensor looks pretty good in many ways, but couldn't they have given Groove a better mold more suited to the scale? Chromia was a heavily retooled Prime Arcee mold, and I thought they did pretty well with her. I understand part of the issue is making the combination element work, but based on that picture Groove is just a rather ugly looking chestplate. Maybe it's a poor angle since he obscures Defensor's face.

I'm not really a big action figure collector but I have a few odd figures. I've always been tempted to get into collecting Trek figures but never did. I am especially tempted by the new Picard and the soon to be released Worf figures. They look really really good. Does anybody know if there are plans to release more in this set? It might help push me over if I knew the whole set was coming out.
Are there any other Trek figures that you guys like and/or recommend? I've seen some of the Nemesis figures and they looked pretty good, a big improvement over the early smaller figures.

Funko is doing 2 waves of TOS and 1 of TNG in 3.75" and 5 PoA. Pics of the first wave are out to mixed reviews. They include:
Kirk
Spock
McCoy
Scotty
Sulu
Uhura
Gorn
Vina

CCC.

If they're making the main four actors then I hope they also add a Dana, Louis, Janine and Slimer to the line (even if the last one is just a big green blob with a few points of articulation). They might as well go all the way and recreate all the significant and recurring characters from the films!

I've seen those but just haven't bothered to pick them up. The Zod is very impressive to say the least and one of the few Terence Stamp toys or collectibles on the market since the two different Episode I Chancellor Valorum action figures in 1999 and 2000 (one 3.75", the second a 12" in a retailer exclusive two-pack).

They are both very impressive to say the least. At first I saw Zod at my Target and was really surprised. To me, Terrence Stamp is the ultimate Zod, someone who has so much power that he almost seems bored. I actually went back to pick him up when I saw the Reeves Superman. Reeves will always be superman.. despite some pretty good casting of the new reboot (Cavill is fine, but the writing is not Superman. Interestingly, e almost seems to be channeling Reeves in the trailer for the Man fro n UNCLE trailer).

I'm so happy to have the two original (and best) hero/ villain pair from the first real super-hero film

Who knows when I'll see anything like it again.

Reportedly according to a Hasbro rep at Toyfair, it indeed was a scale issue. Of course both Bonecrusher and Scrapper also have more updated vehicle modes. It's not just that noticeable for them.

You are absolutely right. The Legends figures are all glorified chest plates or weapons. They needed to get rid of Groove for Rook mostly to spread the costs of a Brawl mode. I think Rook is a genius move to reflect how policing has change from that of the 80s (in the g1 cartoon) to the more militarized form you have now. Same Streetwise having a shotgun.

Ultra Magnus is beautiful. He turned out way nicer than I was expecting. Him and the upcoming leader Megatron I need in my life. NEED THEM.

Hot Spot/Defensor looks really cool, but I'm dissapointed at how many molds turned out to be retools and likely pretools for other figures down the line (Hello, future Onslaught and probably Brawl). I can't really justify dropping a lot of cash on multiple copies of basically the same toy, especially when the deluxe molds all share very similar engineering already, so I guess I'll have to pick up only a couple of teams and skip the rest.

Devastator....ugh. The individual robots look so awful. Really disappointed.
