The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

We finally get to see Diamond Select's Age of Ultron Black Widow:

If they're making the main four actors then I hope they also add a Dana, Louis, Janine and Slimer to the line (even if the last one is just a big green blob with a few points of articulation). They might as well go all the way and recreate all the significant and recurring characters from the films!

For Ghostbusters they plan to do 12 different figures from the first movie. Some will be variants of previously released characters. The first wave will have 3 figures in it. Ray, Winston and a third figure which has not yet been decided. They will each come with build-a-base pieces to form the top of the building from the end of the first movie as well as multiple accessories.

With 12 figures, Janine and Louis seem very plausible.

ETA: Oooh! TNG phaser! About time. Tricorder next, please!

Hot Spot/Defensor looks really cool, but I'm dissapointed at how many molds turned out to be retools and likely pretools for other figures down the line (Hello, future Onslaught and probably Brawl).

That was kinda expected once they unveiled Offroad and Alpha Bravo. My main fear is that Brawl will be downgraded to a legends (and a repainted Warpath or Megatron) and not a remolded Rook or else Rook is remolded to a brand new character for the Combaticons. Otherwise I think Hasbro's Design Team did the best with the ridiculous requirements they had from retailers and Hasbro Management.

I agree about the Constructicons. The real stars were Ultra Magnus and the Protectobots.

Good to know. 12 figures in the series could mean we'll also get Vigo the Carpathian and a Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man, albeit a Stay-Puft (obviously) not to exact scale with the other characters. The first two movies have enough secondary background characters that there's plenty of fodder to fill out twelve slots in the line, and they can even make two different versions of Louis (the original film and Ghostbusters 2 Louis in the Ghostbuster jumpsuit with a proton pack).

Um, ok. Yeah, I know it's probably aimed at the younger ones, but still.

The article said "from the first movie", so no Vigo or Ghostbuster Louis, unfortunately. At least not in the line they have planned.

Ah, overlooked that part. Well, that means they can make a William Atherton, the Library Ghost and a few other characters. I don't know if Atherton's ever had a toy or collectible made of any of his film or television characters so this might be the first if they indeed go that route.

The only Constructicon I'm really worried about based on the pictures is Long Haul. A lot of fans have been critical of the limb issues, understandably, but overall I don't mind most of them too much. Hook's look kind of weird because his arms are thin, but Long Haul looks very disproportionate. I wonder if that's another area that could have been improved without compromising Devastator's stability.

I'm keeping an open mind on the Protectobots. I'm kind of mixed when it comes to the mold recycling, which doesn't surprise me but I think Hasbro needs to make sure they make the characters distinct enough. Hot Spot's new vehicle mode is kind of unusual but in a good way (IMO) because it's easier to picture him looking this way on Cybertron. However, I'd think the mold would have to be retooled a bit for Onslaught so he doesn't look like an evil rescue vehicle. I still kind of wish Groove was in Rook's place (I still don't like him as the chest, cause it just looks awful), but in fairness I think Rook has some interesting potential. A SWAT type vehicle is indeed a very interesting change.

I really like the Ultra Magnus mold. I've always been a fan of the original, and I'm glad this one keeps a lot of the classic design while also including some of IDW's cool variations. :techman:

On the bright side he didn't say "hey, that department store mannequin looks like she's sporting a major camel toe."

Mattel make a figure of Dickless... er, Walter Peck for their line. He even came with the ghost containment system (presumably so people would actually have a reason to buy him ;)). Pic. I really wanted that accessory (it even opens up and came with a trap), but I wasn't going to spend $20+ to get it with such a lame figure.

Other than the guys, here's who I think they should make:

Janine (Mattel didn't make one of her. But they made Peck! Boo!)
Louis and Dana as the Keymaster and Gatekeeper (Mattel made both)
Someone should come with Slimer.
Gozer + Terror Dogs (Mattel didn't make these, but NECA did in their brief, Ghostbuster-less line)
Scaled ECTO-1 (Diamond Select made an electronic BTTF DeLorean, so why not?)

Ah, that explains why I don't remember the William Atherton figure from Mattel. He was made my Mattel. I normally have little to do with Mattel action figures and barely give their retail pegs any attention. Thanks for that link, because I probably would never have known about his existence had somebody not said something.

Scored three of the five brand-new Mission Series 2-packs earlier today at my local Target:

Wullffwarro & Wookiee Warrior (Rebels)
Cikatro Vizago & IG-RM (Rebels)
Bossk & IG-88

The only sets in the newest wave assortment they didn't have were the two with Sabine from Rebels and Wicket the Ewok. I got 10% off each set because of minor damage to their packaging, so they cost just $8.99 each.

The Wife got these for my birthday, I couldn't be more excited. I'm a huge Wall-E fan, love, love the movie. Back in October when we were holiday shopping for the kids, we came across these and I went a bit crazy for them. Wife must have kept them in the back of her mind.

Those look awesome! I've never bought and don't own any Wall-E toys or collectibles but some of them are just great to look at, plus I'm a fan of the movie and I love those characters. Have you opened them and played with their features yet?
