The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

This is just hitting Australia now but this and a Commander Appo flashback sequence figure from Obi-Wan Kenobi will be Walmart exclusives here in the U.S.

I, uh, got some more Marvel Legends figures. :sigh:
Black Widow in the gray suit, I think was originally a Wal-Mart exclusive or something, is pretty cool. But I still have the same gripes about re-used sculpts and rudimentary articulation.

A lazy person's method for staging dynamic lighting, in this case for a 3D printed TARDIS console scaled to the Character Options 5.5 inch action figures.

The "trick" is using a LEGO knockoff set called "Block Tech Lazer Blocks", the "Rocket Launch" collection. (I'm not sure of the forum's policy about linking online "stores", so just employ some creative Googling.)

Anyway, this modestly priced construction package comes with 4 cylindrical blocks measuring 2 by 2 pegs at the top and 4 sockets in the bottom. These blocks have a built in LED powered by ultra tiny button cell batteries and are controlled by a simple slide switch. The LED is a color changing variety cycling through red, green an blue, both slowly and then rapidly. Bu using some other clear pieces to build a simple "lattice" around 2 LED blocks stacked, one can achieve an arrangement of "crystal" greeblies that reflect and refract the light of the LEDs, a lattice that is just the right size for the filament 9or resin) printed consoles one can find for free at "Thingiverse".

The 2 photos here show 2 different arrangements using certain pieces from 2 separate Lazer Block sets. The one snapped when the hue cycled pink used a total of 6 LED blocks, stacked 2 high in a triangular configuration. The other snapped when the hie faded to blue used just 2 LED blocks with a bunch of teeny clear pieces (just a single "peg" in diameter) built up around the LED blocks. Funny how it looked just as bright in the photo and the "lattice" looks more intricate.

The clear cover of the "central column" was a small plastic "jar" I found at a Dollar General's craft section. the assembly does not bob up and down (though an actuator can be found at Thingiverse0, but the cycling lighting effect makes up for the lack of motion, at least for me.

Fortunately I still have my Micro Machines Star Trek (and Star Wars) ships, I'm not exactly sure where they are in this house but I'm pretty sure they're around here somewhere, safe.
