The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

OK so Megatron escaped his cardboard prison and is now on my shelf. He's actually a pretty cool figure. Mostly plastic though which is a bit disappointing, but it's the way Transformers are made now so sigh, I guess that's what we have to accept from companies now from places llike Takara Tomy...

Oh and I also found my Doctor, and Amy figure, and a Ninja.......

Cellphone pictures so please forgive their crappy nature.

I picked up the new CW version of Sky Lynx today, and the results are... mixed. My biggest frustration was noticing that his rear legs, particularly the left rear leg, seem to have a weird bend that they shouldn't have. They should be perpendicular to the sort of U-shaped piece they connect to (this forms the chest of his new combined form, Sky Reign, with his engines forming the chest) so that they align with the front legs, but they're curved in a bit. This doesn't seem to affect his transformation, but it's kind of annoying. The only cause I can think of, and I welcome fixing suggestions on, is that Sky Lynx is packaged in this mode and is secured with those little plastic things. The two pairs of legs work a bit differently and have different designs, so it's possible his rear legs somehow got compressed in packaging.

The overall figure isn't bad, but it could be better. The joints are looser than is ideal, and I'm not fond of the rear legs sticking out in shuttle mode as they do. It's possible to sort of make a lynx mode for the CW by rotating the legs around at the knees and flip out the Sky Reign head, which is modeled after the original lynx component. His shuttle head can become a weird sort of tail, but the leg curve is unfortunately a lot more noticeable.

I'd be asking them for a replacement if it's something that can't be fixed. That shouldn't happen.

It's entirely possible I'm wrong, but I need to examine it more. You can look at the rear legs and see the bend though, and I can't think of any other potential cause besides the packing compressing it in some way that shouldn't have. I might see about taking some pics. This is different from the minor issue I had with CW Megatron, which was a small bit of plastic that wasn't properly removed (and doesn't cause a huge problem). The fact that the rear feet are loose doesn't help matters because the figure is less stable than he should be.

Big Chief's 1/6th scale 11th/12th Doctor's TARDIS along with their Tom Baker Doctor (with replacement, grinning, head). The scarf is a fan creation by a member of GallifreyBase, considerably more accurate than the one supplied with the doll. The police box is cast in "poly-stone" (and thus heavy as the dickens), has three backdrop plates representing the interiors of Matt Smith, when he debuted, the interior from "The Snowmen" and the orange lighting scheme of Peter Capaldi's latest series. The roof piece has an LED for the lamp and 4 more to illuminate the "police box" signs and windows. (The camera flash washed out the lighting effect.)

Sincerely,

Bill

According to Jedi Temple Archives, a massive vehicle for the Star Wars 3.75" line is coming later this year.

There is a huge vehicle coming for the Fall. Right now, it's loosely described (in code perhaps) as a 3.75" Star Wars Signature Set and will retail somewhere between $289.99 and $299.99. It may or may not come with pack-in figures, but that information is sketchy at the moment. Our sources strongly believe that it's possible this could be an AT-AT vehicle (as leaked by Toy Ark around Toy Fair) while others have suggested a playset like the Death Star (but that could be a stretch). Whatever it is, it's honestly a little bit early fuzzy to lock down at the moment. No matter what it is, it is certainly expensive and hopefully will be HUGE.

The 6" scale First Order TIE Fighter had a retail price of $170, so you would think that a $300 vehicle for the smaller 3.75" scale would definitely have to be something much larger than a TIE, assuming it's just a vehicle with maybe one or two figures. Though if the thing is electronic that could explain the higher price as well.

I'd love to see a Death Star Playset or a Jabba's Sail Barge Playset with some pack-in figures similar to how the electronic MTT Troop Transport came with an Obi-Wan and twenty different Battle Droids even if sixteen of them were just statues with one articulated arm. For this pricepoint it needs to be something big and with a lot of features and display value that will excite collectors in a way a Hasbro Star Wars ship or vehicle hasn't in a very long time.

Not that I think they would likely make one to scale with the 3.75" figures, but for the fun of it I calculated that an AT-AT made to that scale would be a whopping 3'10" high and 3'5" long (give or take).

Got this Avatar figure at the garage sale next door for 25 cents. Looks a little like Pete Townsend. The guitar is Playmobile.

Here is the band, so far.

I have seen pictures of the TARDIS in the BCS Facebook group and so far everyone loves it! It is really a great piece. I think it is a great idea with the three different backdrops.

I didn't order it but patiently wait for my Tenth Doctor's TARDIS to arrive. I am a bit worried how to get that huge and heavy box back home from work! And I also have pre-ordered their Baker Street door, which surely will be equally huge and heavy. I seriously hope they never do inside console dioramas, otherwise I need to buy a house.

Cool find! Where are the speakers from? I plan to buy one day the Lorne on stage from Buffy but there are so many different ones, I can't decide:

I need to get my treadmill out of my library and clear out my old comics before Combiner Wars Computron comes out this summer. (Or Titans Return Fortress Maximus). Anybody want an old, loud treadmill for free?

The other guy is Jake with a head swap and I believe the girl is Willow. The instruments, stands and speakers are all Playmobile.

I'm interested in Fort Max, but I'm not really interested in Betatron/Computron. Hasbo has been very hit or miss with CW IMO, with some really good figures (or at least decent ones) and some really not so good ones. CW Scattorshot is a lazy example IMO.

They all look so cool. What kind of Playmobil? I want to get tons of those speakers and make something.
The Playmobile City Life series. The first set was 3 people, microphones, 2 guitar stands, 1 guitar, 1 keyboard, and 4 speakers. I then got a keyboard player and keyboard. I have melded the keyboards together in a stack, no pic yet. Then I got the band box with 3 figures, 2 guitars mics and stands. This last was a couple of weeks ago half price at Tuesday Morning. Still looking for a good drum kit, may have to scratch build it.

( @LordMudd My drum set is one you can play with your finger and also record what you play.)

I guess that would be the right moment to show Torchwood as a band? I made it after a fanfiction which I loved. It's called "Music and Monsters" and can be read here: http://doctorwho.livejournal.com/7341951.html

So I could not resist making an action figure story out of it, with her permission of course. The lines between the pictures are exact quotes from the story. There is even a video among the pictures this time - I am upgrading! This is only part 1/2 so there will be more for the last chapter of the story. Enjoy!

And then the MC shouted “Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Torchwood!” The curtain rose. The crowd screamed - For us!. Gwen marvelled, dizzy with it for a second-as Jack raised his arms in appreciation, basking in the applause. Jack and his ego. Then Owen began to lay down a rhythm, Tosh followed him with a sweet electricky keyboard chiming, and Gwen let a grin split her face as she and her guitar chimed in with the lick that began Everything Changes.

Ianto might be terminally eccentric, with his suits, his non-sequiturs, his coffee fixation and his stuffed pterodactyl. (Its name was Myfanwy, apparently, and it served as the band’s mascot.) But he could make that sax of his weep like an angel on a Saturday night, tired of being good all week and hoping for a beer. And he was no small talent as a songwriter, either.

Owen’s drumming rumbled down into your bones and pulsed inside your spine.

Tosh’s keyboard stylings were as perfect and delicate as silicon chips.

And Jack - Jack had a voice as rich as Ianto’s coffee, full of passion and insinuation, and a smile and a wink that was pure showman.

Sometimes Gwen felt a bit intimidated by how good they all were. But jamming with them...well, it had really inspired her to push herself. And now her guitar-playing shone as never before.

Tosh began to pick out one last tune. Owen picked up the beat, Gwen the melody, and Jack whooped with delight and began to sing: “Come out, Ianto, don’t let me wait! You Catholic boys start much too late, but sooner or later it comes down to fate. I might as well be the one...”

The audience screamed again at the Torchwood finale. And Torchwood rocked.
