The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

The Supernatural car I ordered her (she loves the show), after she had a rough week at work:

A small sample (very small) of her action figures/Funko collection:

So...many...toys...

And still four days to go? Oh no!

There's a similar Pirate's Booty or Loot Crate thing in the Funko Pop! line so I had to ask. Thanks for the link, man!

you are most welcome. my buddy has a Loot Crate subscription (I don't quite know everything about it) but I guess they send you a box of cool stuff that belongs to a theme. My buddy got the hoverboard too.

That wasn't just true, but uncomfortably true. And one of the funniest commercials SNL has made in years.

So true...

I don't know. It feels like it's just reinforcing this whole attitude that there must be something wrong with us for being grown men who like to collect toys. They're not actually saying anything funny about collecting as hobby. They're saying "haha look at these losers who like toys. Laugh at them because of it."

It's ridiculous how superheroes and science fiction rule at the box office, but anyone who is truly enthusiastic for them still gets shunned. How is it any different than people who collect, for instance, sports memorabilia?

Baseball and football are "cool," therefore more socially acceptable. They're virile. Sexy. Profitable and used by companies to advertise and sell their products. Widely enjoyed across most if not all income and class boundaries. We're nerds with intimacy problems who don't know how to talk to girls without giggling or mentioning how many ships Starfleet has or both.

I won't for a moment lie about that commercial. I haven't laughed that hard at an SNL bit in at least a few years. I see a lot in that to actually laugh at. I laugh at my own dorky character traits and realize many of my friends see those same traits in me, but still love me for them and even share many of them. But yeah, I can see how some collectors and toy fans like us could easily be annoyed or offended and I completely understand.

The stereotype that we're all losers and nerds with horrible fashion sense, questionable hygiene and no competent social skills gets old and fast, but other than that I loved this bit.

Sorry for the double post, but I really like the new ornaments, KM! I didn't know that a Christmas ornament of the Operation game had even been made!

I'm realizing that this is going to be an even more crowded mess than ever. I've sold all of my 3 3/4" figures and am using all 6" scale this year. They take up a lot more space.

Easter egg: Aren't you a little short for a Stormtrooper?
