The Action Figure and Toy Collecting and Discussion Thread!

The Saga Legends figure line is returning at a $5.99 pricepoint and with all-new sculpts, each with only five points of articulation....but hey, they're kinda cheap!

More great pics from the floor of Toy Fair!

Here's Mara....

And here's the Cloud City Dining Room Vader complete with "blaster deflection" hand.

I never realized just how much I wanted a Vader with blaster reflecting hand until just now.

Mara Jade looks fantastic. That is how I envision the character.

R2...damn. I need this thing in my life right now. That's pretty definitive, right there. Now we just need them to announce a ROTJ Luke for it to launch that saber to.

Thanks for the Mara pic. Looks like they even included her microblaster.

Blitzwing there looks like it has multiple heads ala the recent Animated Cartoon incarnation.

Here are some better multi-angle images of the new Star Wars Black Series 6". The more I see, the more I drool. My only quibble so far is Darth Maul's head. It doesn't seem to fit onto his body correctly. I am hoping it is an issue with the prototype and will be corrected in the run. (It looks like he has two heads, one permanently attached to his removable cloak.)

Anyway, check it out...

One of the Black Series 6" Mauls also has wonky eyes that are a little too big and cartoony for my tastes, but we have to remember that a lot of the product we're seeing today has been hand painted as a first generation display copy, not the final production model that will hang on a peg near you.

This is very evident on the new $5.99 Saga Legends Clone Troopers, which have obvious hand-applied blue and orange striping that looks nothing like the paint we normally see on Clone Troopers in stores. The Anakin Skywalker in that new line also has an iffy skin tone and reddish hair, which is wrong no matter how you slice it.

Here's a brand new video from Toy Fair demonstrating the features of the new electronic 13" Anakin-to-Vader transforming figure (which will retail for about $24.99).

These are the all-new figure molds that have just five points of articulation (neck, shoulders, hips), but the sculpting is pretty dynamic and good in spite of the figures' shortcomings.

I really want that Mara Jade.

It really doesn't look like there is going to be an action figure line for "Star Trek: Into Darkness". I saw nothing from the Hasbro presentation report to indicate that there will be. Of course this could change at any time. It's just disappointing. I thought for sure we would get a 3.75 line.

Yeah, he looks to have the rotating face gimmick from his Animated version. It remains to be seen if he also has three faces or just the Animated and G1 inspired ones.

All that Generations stuff is bought. All of it. I've never been so universally happy with the first figures from a new TF line before. Megatron is a goddamn stealth bomber. How can you not love that?

Me too. But then, nothing was ever set in stone and if Hasbro's been gun shy about parts of the Star Wars merchandising universe that they know will make them money and cutting back then I'm really not surprised they took a look at Trek and said: "It won't sell as well, so why take the risk."

Still, I'd have loved to see what Hasbro's sculptors could have done with Chris Pine and Benedict Cumberbatch. It might have been epic.

Considering how poorly the Playmates Trek action figure line performed, I can't blame them. People just don't seem to want tiny Ken dolls wearing space jammies.

Yet stores often sold out of the random background Star Wars guy carrying an ice cream maker. Go figure.

No pun intended.

(*Shakes fist Colbert style*)

Willrow!!!!
