Spoilers The Acolyte

What did Mae mean with Osha being alive changing everything? She went from murder to feeling the need to turn herself in very quickly.

Considering the writing depth is shallower than a kiddy pool.. Its Qimir.. They could have done better to hide it.
I REALLY want to like this show.. but its so boring!!

the creator of the series has said Episode 5, so next week, is probably going to be the one most talked about.

I hope so in a positive sense because so far there's nothing to talk about, at least not good things.

There's a ton of good things to talk about

Like what? I can find very little that i believe is good in that show.

That twist (apparently, missed the hype it seems) that it's about twin sisters left me cold or rather not that excited, it was just ok.

Jedi are arrogant in that time period which causes problems and ultimately their downfall? Has been known for ages and a core lore element in Star Wars.

If there is not a really well done twist the story seems quite obvious - Jedi waltz into a Force sensitive group, piss everybody off with their arrogance and apparently things escalate so a decade and a half later someone is out for revenge and is a Force user.

All these elements are just there and combined make for a mediocre story at best for me because it's nothing unique, it has nothing interesting to tell and the characters are bland stock characters of their archetype ( noble Jedi Master, arrogant Jedi Knight, hateful and most likely misguided revenge character, character with personal connection to revenge character who wants to save her etc).

I try not to place Star Wars in a too high pedestal but it seems to me that the Disney higher ups have a strange way of greenlighting projects. They give the thumbs up for Mandalorian and knock it out of the park, then make the mostly forgettable Kenobi ( what's the interest in a show where i know how it will end?`) than knock it out of the park again with Andor ( could have gotten rid of all Star Wars elements and would have still made for an awesome story with something to say) and then drop the ball again with Ahsoka/Rebels Season 5 ( that was concentrated dumb on a high production level).

So far the show has failed to make me care for any of the characters and i hope to god they make a hard turn qualitywise and actually surprise me - if it turns out that this mysterious Sith is that Mae sidekick i might actually die from eyerolling.

Its better than Andor (Low bar for me.. watching paint dry would be more exciting..) and I'd say better than Boba Fett.. but its like.. are we going to get to anything interesting soon? I like some Characters like X23 and Sol.. but .. Hopefully it gets better, still watching it which is saying something.

A surprisingly short episode (though only a few minutes shorter than the second episode) with an honestly somewhat too abrupt ending for my taste . . . but it is a cliffhanger, and I'm sure the next episode will pick up right from here so it probably won't matter much in the long run. Random notes: -
  • I don't know about anyone else, but I did not have "Young Ki-Adi-Mundi" on my Acolyte bingo card! Though I probably should have since of the Prequel era Jedi we know (or presume) would be alive in this time, he's probably the easiest (and cheapest) to execute, just being a make-up appliance instead of a puppet (Yoda, Yaddle, Yarael Poof, Oppo Rancisis), or performance capture (Tera Sinube?)
  • There's layers of secrecy in this story and everyone seems to be keeping information compartmentalised; Sol and the other three didn't file a complete report on the Brendok incident, and whatever actually happened was enough to haunt both Torbin and Kelnacca. Vernestra and the small council are keeping things from the High Council.
  • I'm assuming these are each key members from the councils of First Knowledge, Reconciliation, and Reassignment, plus Vern who I'm assuming is on the High Council herself. That or they're all higher-ups within the Council of Reconciliation, and are keeping this from literally everyone else!
  • Either way this is interesting in and of itself since rogue individuals notwithstanding; we don't often see factional behaviour like this within the Order itself, least of all for political concerns. Clearly the relationship between the Jedi High Council and the Galactic Congress has become a lot more strained in the past century for them to even consider this!
  • Then on the flipside we have "The Master" lying to Mae and giving her very vague Jedi murdering instructions, and Qimir (assuming they're not one and the same) also clearly knowing more than he's saying.
  • There's a random octopuss-head looking background alien in the scene with Sol & Vern talking after the meeting that has me wondering if it's meant to be a Krevaaki, or a new design . . . I hope that latter since Vodo-Siosk Baas is kind of a favourite of mine from the old TotJ comics, and if they show his species I'd prefer it get the full hero puppet treatment.
  • Speaking of which; I'm Pretty sure that Bazil the tracker is meant to be a Tynnan! That's a pretty deep cut even for an EU reference as it goes all the waaaay back to the old 70's Han Solo novels! I only recognised him from the depiction in the first edition copy of "Essential Guide to Alien Species" that's been sat on my shelf for the last few decades!
  • Also think I spotted a Tarlafar at the Temple spaceport!
  • Strange to see so many non-Jedi at the temple, given how insular it would seem just a century later. A not to subtle retroactive indication of how isolated the Jedi of that time became!
  • The civilian robe is an interesting detail, though I'm not sure why they would insist both Bazil and Osha wear one. Perhaps because they want it to be clear that she's officially working with the Jedi, and not just some random itinerant meknek?
  • I think this is the first time we've seen a non-droid translator. Perhaps the Jedi prefer not to depend on protocol droids for these kinds of missions? Or the show didn't want to introduce a new droid character without them actually having something substantial to do?
  • Wouldn't be Star Wars without a random monster attack . . . at least this one didn't have tentacles! According to the closed captions, this one is called an umbramoth (presumably because it lives in the deep shadows of the forest?) Looks more like a woodlouse than a moth to me though . . .
  • Jeki is very wise and worldly for such a young padawan. I kinda want to know her back story (I'm sure we'll get it eventually, in one medium or another!)
  • Kelnacca already being dead was certainly a shock (and a disappointment, honestly) as I was rather looking forward to more Joonas. I'm sure we'll get to see more of him in the inevitable flashback of what else happened that night 16 years ago . . . but still!
  • I suspected as much after the first two episodes, but I'm even more sure now that Mae was never the Sith's true target of recruitment, but Osha. She's had a decade of Jedi training, and bares a deep resentment towards her sister. The whole point of this exersise may have always been to get Osha to kill Mae in anger and become the new Sith Apprentice. Mae said it herself; with Osha alive her motivation for vengence is gone. But for Osha; Mae being alive if anything makes it worse, because now she has a focus for her resentment.
That is gonna be a Bith under that helmet, and it'll be Darth Tenebrous. The shape of it is pretty perfect for a Bith head.
I don't think so. A Bith's head is *way* bigger than that. Also, even if they go with the name Tenebrous, I doubt we'll be seeing a Bith Sith anytime soon. Aside from the somewhat tongue twisting consonance bordering on a pun, it's just going to come of as a random pull for the majority of the audience that hasn't read that one EU book. Also from a practical standpoint; it would require them to build a custom Bith mask that could perform and hold up as a main character, which while totally feasible, is nonetheless an expense that probably isn't worth it.
Also we saw the hint of a human eye though the slit in the mask. So there's that . . .
It's Jason Qimir. If it wasn't obvious before, it is now. He's always telling Mae what her master wants, relaying instructions and threats. And then after she tells him that she's going to turn herself in, her master shows up right away.

And, of course, the other characters keep emphasizing that nobody's ever seen this guy's face, which means we're in for a Big Reveal. (TM) Qimir is the only character in the show that would make sense.
It is true. The red blade might not be the Master, but the Apprentice. Looking for an Acolyte to help take down the Master.
It's been pretty obvious ever since Qimir started rattling off fragments of the Sith code that there's much more to him that he appears. Which could mean he's a Sith (be it Master or Apprentice) or it could mean he's a red herring and the Sith isn't anyone we know. Personally I'm trying not to over-analyse or anticipate and just letting the show tell the story in on it's own terms. I find I enjoy mysteries more that way.

That said; I couldn't help but take note that there would have been just enough time for Qimir to go kill Kelnacca while he was off getting water and Mae was setting the snare. Either way, it's clear that the Sith never intended to let Mae try and kill the Wookiee herself. It reeks of a set-up.
Considering the writing depth is shallower than a kiddy pool.. Its Qimir.. They could have done better to hide it.
I REALLY want to like this show.. but its so boring!!
You know what I find boring? People that watch shows they claim to hate, just so they can whinge about them week in, week out. If you don't like it, that's fine; Don't watch it! Nobody is forcing you to be here.

Still not sure where to rank this. But it's somewhere near the middle of the pack.

A decent episode, although not a lot happened. I'm still loving the show though, and its really good at keeping the mystery, I rarely get to watch shows with a mystery that actually use the mystery element well, and I think the show has done that so far. The ending was dramatic and abrupt, but really sets up the next episode perfectly.

I will say that I didn't consider that the jedi we saw in the background was Ki-Adi-Mundi, I figured it was an alien of the same species. Is every jedi thats not human have a multiple centuries long lifespan? I think that was more special when it was rarer, now it feels like half the council from the Prequel era were around in the High Republic.

Bazil is a Tynnan, the Tynnan first appeared in legends in the Brian Daley Han Solo books. And were introduced in canon in one of the Rogue One tie in books.

Maybe this is the EU species Leslye said she brought into live action?
