THE 83rd ANNUAL ACADEMY AWARDS

IT IS COMING THIS SUNDAY IS ANYONE GOING TO WATCH ?

AND if so who do you want to win ?
I am looking forward to it just to see who wins what not realy caring either way. FOR me its like the superbowl just
I just want to know who wins .

I gave up on that shit a long time ago, a lot of boring, self-congratulatory BS. And I never manage to see the nominated movies in time anyway, since I see practically everything on DVD. There are a few movies worth watching in the theater, but they never get nominated for Oscars, so screw it.

I always look forward to the Academy Awards. This year James Franco and Anne Hathaway are hosting, so that should be interesting (I have a crush on Anne :D), since the host is the glue that holds the event together. Hopefully, they'll do very well, even though I was hoping Ricky Gervais would host them this year.

A crush? Is that what you call it? Because Anne showed me the restraining order and she most definitely would not call it a crush. :p

What's a piece of paper between friends? :ouch:

Definely gonna watch it here on Monday afternoon. It's was fun watching it live and not delayed like previous years. Only seen 4 of the best pictures, was gonna see The Kings Speech, but probably will see it sometime next week.

or worse if french stewart were hosting.

anyone know who's up for best actor or best actress ?

Like Temis, I gave up on the Academy Awards years ago. Time and time again I've seen superior, quality films and performances that have passed the test of time being snubbed for purely political/popularity reasons. Meanwhile the awards usually go to whatever the current flavor of the month is in Hollywood and whoever makes the most ad buys.

This was very evident when Harvey Weinstein and his gang bulldozed the voters with ads to pick Shakespeare in Love as Best Film and it's happening again this year. The Social Network had the lock to win for best film and all of a sudden everyone is now raving about the King's Speech. Mind you I've not seen either film or have a desire to but that is just what I'm seeing.

I admit people watching at the Oscars is a guilty pleasure. Like People Magazine come to life!

As usual, I haven't seen most of the nominees (although I intend to see Black Swan and The King's Speech). I think The Social Network is overrated (at least conceptually...the acting is very good).

My favorite movie of the year was Inception. I hope it wins whatever it's nominated for.

I never watch it because most of the time crappy movies nobody ever heard of wins Best Picture. I never heard of this King's Speech movie until the awards nominations were announced. Also the big awards aren't awarded until near the end anyway and I'm not missing sleep for something I can read about on the internet the next day.

I look forward to making alot of money on my choices.

It's that predictable this year. I'm sure i'll make 50 bucks if Bale wins best supporting actor award.

well it starts @ 6 pm and runs to 10 pm . as far as the kings speech have not seen it . I think it sopposed to be a true story set leading in world war one.. its a historical piece. and the queen of england loved it . any one going to watch the royal wedding?

Out of the best picture nominees I've seen...

The Social Network
The King's Speech
True Grit
Toy Story 3
Inception

They were all very good movies, but all felt a wee bit flawed too. There's no "Dark Knight" in that group of 5. Out of those I give the narrow edge to The Social Network.

It's probably the only movie out of those 5 I can look at and say "I don't really see any weaknesses." Great acting, great dialogue, riveting, even the music was top notch.

Actually, I'm a little confused about time at the moment. The guide on my TV says the Red Carpet Live goes from 7:00 until 8:30 EST, ABC's website says it comes on at 8 PM EST. The Oscar site has it starting at 8 PM EST, even though the official countdown clock on the same site has it starting in 2 1/2 hours, which means 6:30 PM EST, so something's off, somewhere.

^ 8 p.m. EST makes sense, because it's usually done at around midnight EST, so four hours long.

I hope so.

EDIT: Checked with ABC.com (yes, I emailed them ), and they start coverage at 8:30 PM. Looked around a few websites and it seems Red Carpet Live normally begins a half hour beforehand, but ABC is covering a full 90 minutes. Yeek! So the Oscars start at 8:30PM EST. I think.
