The 5,000,000th Post

What's with the inconsistencies? It's at 4,978,901 now on my home computer (above is from my work computer), fairly close. I'm curious who the 5,000,000th post will be but one person's reading someone hit it, mine is showing it didn't, and another is showing less than me.

You have to remember that the count on the main page only contains posts still in the database - so whilst the post ID might show 9 million, if 4 million have been pruned, it'll only show as 5 million on the index.

Not sure why different people are getting different numbers - might be a cache problem, or maybe something to do with only counting forums you can see?

Edit: oh look, post #66 in the thread was mine after all.

I think they should set up a script that when we get to 4,999,999 posts it automatically deletes the oldest post on the board before posting the new one.

Just to annoy everyone.

Maybe. I haven't opted in to TNZ, for example. Plus there's all the lounges for various ranks.

If you are the person to make the 5,000,000th post, Chekov comes to your house to announce that the Russians did it first.

Maybe instead of finding the 5,000,000th post (which apparently we can't agree on), how about seeing what the 10,000,000th numbered post will be? While a bit further off, that does seem to be a bit easier to find.

This is what I see on the right:

That's what we should go with.
