Neidermeyer, who had perhaps one or two positive attributes out of 300, gave me ANIMAL HOUSE's most humorously unforgettable moment. The horse might have been chosen instead, but his eyes freaked me out too much. I'm not even a huge ANIMAL HOUSE fan, but I give its writers credit for throwing in their most ''tragic'' laugh. For the more serious films, how they present the death or deaths is quite often a factor.

You’re saying here that you thought Niedemyer was an unforgettable character, but the question wa, what made Niedemyer’s death unforgettable? I’d still like to hear the answer.

So, does your answer above mean that some or all of the entrants on your list are there not because their deaths were unforgettable, but because they were “unforgettable” characters regardless of how they died?

these were unforgettable death scenes for me. Neidermeyer's RIP card made it unforgettable. It was a parody of AMERICAN GRAFFITI which was also a 1962 story, but they used still photos for that moment. The presentations are going to differ. Some deaths are quick as hell, others have ten different kinds of build-ups or different reactions by assorted participants. Having a list of 201 ways Steven Seagal can kill his better co-actors is not what I'm aiming for.

So it’s not just character deaths, or even death scenes. since Niedemyer has no death “scene.” This is why I suggested that you give some explanation as to WHY you find these scenes to be unforgettable and more importantly, why you have them ranked where they are. I mean, what makes the 152nd choice 100 times less unforgettable than your 52nd choice? What’s your criteria for “unforgettable? Why can’t you forget these individual scenes?

To me, the explanations could be far more interesting than your actual list.

I remember them all. They're unforgettable to me. That's flip but true. They're also small critical parts of established mostly-esteemed films which are familiar to the general public. Some will inevitably be from films certain people didn't see, but Daniel Radcliffe of SWISS ARMY MAN probably hasn't seen us either, so it's all symmetrical in the end. All the demises, Neidermeyer's included, are in my permanent memory bank. They can be shown, heard, seen, referenced on a premonition card or not. When the list is complete there will be time to add brief descriptions for perhaps the entire roster. In-depth or brief answers can and will be happily given beforehand if you provide individual numbers for the individual films you may not be familiar with. There's no obligation to watch every minute of every film. (Some newer films don't even deserve that courtesy). But I do believe all these 201 (plus two) flicks are worth a general look. That's one of a dozen reasons these 203 were picked. I also prefer ''unforgettable'' to best since everybody's best is someone's worst.

I expect added posters will swarm once the list is sealed, but descriptions can be added at that point, and discussion/debate could conceivably keep the thread alive. We shall see.

The one she stabbed at the end? Without that murder, the film would be considered the ultimate in potato-peeling. I commend you for sticking with it, though I saw it in college and it unfortunately bored me. It's still an official Criterion collection classic.....while THE ROCK is an official Criterion.

I see movies like that as “Cinema vegetables”. Sometimes you just have to eat your vegetables and watch a movie that’s artistically beautiful even though it’s slow and a bit boring.
