That would line up with my thoughts about the chip too. The references to the souls of the other Commanders moving on could actually be references to the chip storing their memories and then sharing them with it's future hosts.Actually, if you really pay close attention, Becca (was that her name? I'm really awful at names) said her goal for Allie 2.0 was to make it learn from human experiences. That could be all the chip has been doing for the last 97 years, and it won't actually "wake up" until Allie 1.0 gets her grubby hands on the chip.
Are you sure about that? I just watched season 2 before this season started, and I think I remember there being references to past Commanders. Before this season a lot of the references to the Grounders outside of Trikru were rather vague, so I don't really remember where there were explict references to their history that can't be worked around somehow.Still, my problem is with the whole Commander thing at all. It was clearly stated last season that Lexa was the first Commander, and that it was a relatively recent deal. Prior to her, there were just tons of random clans doing whatever, and none of them seemed to have any interest (indeed, they were terrified of) technology, and not just because of Mount Weather. (Nevermind the weirdness of Becca not having any association with Mount Weather to begin with; "I want to fix what I did, so I'll stay around in the wastelands with no technology while a swanky high tech base is a walking distance away.")
I might have been misremembering and misinterpreting things, but I had interpreted the Commander to be the leader of Trikiru and Polis to be their capital, and that creation of the other Coalition had brought the members of the other Tribes there for the first time. Has there been anything said that would definitely rule that out?But now, they're implying that it's a title and position that has existed since the very beginning, and that Polis has been the Grounder's main HQ the whole time. Complete with its own technology-worshipping religion.
We already knew that from Thelonious and his son. Raven just confirmed that's how the chip operates, and why the Allie 2.0 is going to be such a big deal. Allie 1.0 seems to work by trying to erase the human experience, whereas 2.0 was built around embracing it and learning from it.The whole thing with Raven forgetting Finn was an interesting twist in the City of Lights story. I guess that must mean that it makes you "better" simply by making you forget the things causing you pain. I wonder what it will take to get it removed if Raven or one of the others decide they don't want it any more?
Raven just wanted some relief from her physical pain. Thelonious wanted religion. Makes sense that Raven isn't as accepting of it.
You both bring up some very interesting points. I wonder if her followers become more accepting of her and the effects she has over time. If Raven doesn't get the chip out will she eventually become more accepting, whether she wants or not? Also Jaha has been under her influence much longer without anyone reminding him about Wells under Abby mentioned him just once. If someone had been constantly bringing up his murdered son when he first got infected by Allie he'd probably realize something was wrong too.
