It's not compulsory for every fan to like every show equally or at all; that would be an impossibility. It's fine if other people like shows that you don't like.

It's also fine to voice concerns about the direction modern Trek is taking in order to appeal to modern audiences. The producers want to maximise the number of people who enjoy their shows, so criticism can be taken on board.

Personally I take all the whining about Mary Sue characters (Spock is the most prominent example yet people love him) and not enough straight white males (who make up less than 5% of the Earth's population) with a pinch of salt. Trek did a poor job of representing racial and sexual equality with a fair amount of token characters.

What irks me is the drift away from Starfleet as a sci fi version of the navy. Protocols and the chain of command are optional, characters leave their colleagues to die while they deal with personal issues and hug it out.

Personally I’m content into just enjoy something and worry about where it fits into the bigger picture later. And besides, watching sci-fi on TV involves forgiving the occasional ridiculous plot contrivance.

But it's been 6 years since discovery and a earth shattering FOURTEEN YEARS since star trek 2009, the moment the alternate timeline was created by the clueless mistake of careless writers who don't care much for trek by destroying Romulus. That action created the disc, SNW, and Picard universe. The real future timeline as glimpsed in tng, or voy, NEVER had Romulus destroyed. This event changed everything that's why I consider the whole Romulus destroyed non Canon and any show that accepts Romulus being gone as "Canon", is not canon imo at all and part of some alternate timeline that the time ship relativity will correct once COMPOTENT writers and showrunners are placed at paramount.

It’s was a double edged sword, since it also carved out a path for interesting Trek. And got away from overly safe Berman Trek.

And its not like the destruction of Romulus prevent further exploration of Romulan culture or Romulan space. PIC S1 proved that.

This guy doesn't accept the destruction of Romulus as canon, he views everything after Nemsis to be an alternate timeline so trying to discuss anything with him concerning the new series is a waste of time and effort.

Canon or not, fortunately we all get to choose what episodes we want to watch.

Pretty much the case with me with Voyager. I watched it totally from end to end during its original run and now only spot watch it when I need to refresh my memory about a specific event

My favourite series is STNG but I don't watch all of it when going through the series.

No I don't either. Out of 20-25 episodes in each season I will usually watch about 10 before moving on. A lot of TNG's filler and box episodes didn't age well

It's an interesting exercise picking which TNG episodes to watch with my 9-year old. He is interested in the series, but I also want to kind of "filter" the mediocre and/or boring stuff out. I'd say I agree that it comes down to about 8-12 episodes per season that are worth showing him and/or that I think he'd find interesting.
