That one episode that stands out for you...

That one episode that stands out for you... basically, what is your favorite episode of TNG?

For me 'Who Watches The Watchers' is special, I LOVE IT, if I could watch only one episode of this series, that might be it!

Or... if I could watch only one, it could also be 'All Good Things...', the episode tells its own history in it, almost like a movie.

But still, 'Who Watches The Watchers' is the BEST!

I will have to go with the obvious BoBW. I know. Its the easy safe choice.

I liked The First Duty though and its one I rewatch often. It was quiet understated episode with no space battles but l managed to convey so much.

The Defector

This has Picard at his very best, a neat little twist with the Klingons (That was hinted to only subtly earlier in the episode), Data learning Shakespeare, and James Sloyan and Andreas Katsluas. It was everything I love about TNG in one episode.

Some others that I absolutely love:

Best of Both Worlds/Family
The Drumhead
The Enemy
Chain of Command
Preemptive Strike
All Good Things...

But still, 'Who Watches The Watchers' is the BEST!
The episode nicely refutes the prime directive, Picard resolves the big problem by simply talking openly and honestly with the natives. It's the episode's best scene.

^ But since the natives already knew about Picard, the Prime Directive no longer applied. There was never any need - or possibility - to do anything OTHER than talk to them.

The Best Of Both Worlds is my completely predictable and obvious choice. It really is fantastic.

All Good Things, Q Who and Yesterday's Enterprise are also great but BOBW is special. Family is a great companion piece to it as well.

Just to throw a new one into consideration, I'm going to nom "Preemptive Strike". One of the few eps of TNG to show some moral complexity to various characters and to take a poke at the "perfect Federation" rule.

For me it's The Inner Light because while it was perhaps not the most eventful episode, the story and accompanying music piece were both beautiful, making me smile and feel warm at the end. In a way I felt envious of Picard, to be gifted the memories of a life and the knowledge of a people in that way.

For me it's Family. This is such an atypical episode of TNG with no space anomaly or science fiction elements. Just a follow up to one of the best episodes of the series with a bunch of quiet character moments for the crew and it works beautifully. Everytime I watch it, it feels special.

"The Defector"; to be blunt -like the script, performances, fx, the way the sets are lit, the ending. A real example of how the show had changed from seasons 1& 2.

Probably The Wounded

Runner up, Chain of Command

Pretty bold to take on those stories

Hard for me to choose between Best of Both Worlds (I include Family as it's epilogue), Yesterday's Enterprise, Sins of the Father, Chain of Command, and All Good Things, but I guess if I had to, it would be AGT. It basically encapsulates the best of the entire series, and is one of the best series finales, sci fi or otherwise.

It's sort of a tie with the two-parter "The Best of Both Worlds" and "Yesterday's Enterprise". Both of which, also, contain the absolute best scoring of the series and in my opinion some of the finest television scoring ever.
