It's one of the fastest growing states in the US with one of the strongest and diverse economies. We'd be better off without California.

Which begs the question why share that with the rest of the US? better to go it alone and keep the prosperity to themselves. It's like me earning £2000 a week and then just giving a huge chunk of it to 49 other people for no reason.

God, I hate Rick Perry. Even though I'm a Democrat, I'm going to vote for Kay Bailey Hutchison in the Republican primary just to get that moron out of office.

And as for Texas trending blue, it's true, based primarily on the explosion of the Hispanic population as well as the big increase in residents moving here from Northern states. The big cities - Houston, Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, etc. - are already Democratic.

It will be a few years, but I wouldn't be surprised if Texas is a swing state in the 2016 or 2020 elections.
