Terry Matalas: No Stargazer in S3

With all the TNG characters coming back it would make sense for the still unannounced one to do it as well: the enterprise, be it the E or the F.

And IDK if it was the same book or another one, where TNG era Scotty stole a Constitution class from the the museum to go out and look for Kirk?

If I'm thinking of the right one, that was Crossover. Haven't thought about that book in ages. (And I think it was actually Spock he was trying to rescue?)

Or was the space shuttle Enterprise involved?

Not sure if it's the same one you're thinking of, but IIRC, the space shuttle Enterprise appeared in A Flag Full of Stars.

The Enterprise does appear and I have proof. John Eaves posted pics on Facebook awhile ago of Picard's "you broke your little ships" models which were made for First Contact and added to for the subsequent movies and season 3 of Star Trek: Picard.

It features the Strange New Worlds NCC-1701, and even the V.S.S. Enterprise. Link. Who knew golden model ships would give it away? (John Eaves must have realised because the original FB post was deleted)

Whenever those books first came out? That's how long it's been, so I could easily be conflating or confusing things.

No Stargazer in S3:

And yet we saw interior of Stargazer for S3. Will it be some lazy work, that they represent let's say Enterprise-E refit interior as Stargazer. This is not good.

Did you actually think they were going to scrap a nice set like that after 10 minutes of footage???

It will be redressed as something else. They have been doing that since TOS. THIS IS A GOOD THING..

I have an elaborate and very well thought-out prediction for S3 of Picard based on all the available data and information we have on hand:

It will all be ok.

Hopefully. I hope we dont get like 10 minutes of each Legacy character. They shot both seasons back to back without audience input. So the pacing mistakes may have spilled over into season 3. I just hope Jeri Ryan is still in it. She was a bright spot imo. Her character had grown significantly since Voyager....

I don't think "audience input" has helped the franchise. Not even a little bit.

Once Star Trek started doing "writing by checklist to try and make the fans squee with delight," things started getting weaker and weaker.

I'd rather they go balls-out and just tell their story. Be bold, take risks, and go for it. And if it falls flat, hey, at least you went down swinging, not constrained and frustrated trying to make a bunch of fans happy who, quite frankly, are very difficult to universally satisfy.

Indeed. It appears that this is driven by "Hey guys, start that screaming and clapping" rather than engaging in a meaningful story.

Well you wont make everyone happy. That much is true. But look at the Star Wars shows. They seemed to better received (from what I see anyhow) among its fanbase. Which of course have many Trek fans. Star Wars is not perfect but the producers have been trying very hard to respect its history. Been doing a much better job than DISC and Picard imo. But again it's impossible to make every little thing perfect story wise, effects wise etc....but as its stands now I'm much more inclined to rewatch an episode of Mandalorian or even Boba Fett before I do the same with the new Star Treks. I just hope SNW breaks the trend. Its had a few missteps so far but I really like the return to a more episodic format as well as having threads from pikes past cropping up. Im Thinking his knowledge of his future death will be a running theme and I bet that we wont hear the last of Pike once hes in the hands of the Talosians...

Because Star Wars doesn't change. It tries very hard to keep it static.

I enjoy it well enough but I am not likely to revisit it, as I am DISC or even Picard.

The howling after The Last Jedi - which does have some legit flaws - upended the usual Star Wars formula was something to behold.

I do hope that S3 takes some big risks, but I kinda doubt it. Which doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be bad - fanservice can still be entertaining and emotion-inducing. Just not everything it could be.
