That looked great, and I didn't think Bale was overacting at all...I think though he was indeed attempting to get the point across to the audience that this is the Future War and things are not as they seem. He succeeds.

Wow.
Bale has been on the fringe of Hollywood blockbusters so far, not appearing in any conventional, straight-up industry action films, but this appears like it might break that streak.

I don't know. What's up with his gravely voice? I know people complained about it in his Batman films, and it is not nearly as bad here (however I never had a problem with it, because Batman is suppose to have a deep and gravely voice) but his voice here just seems deep...because?
Like every line seems like he's forcing it.
"You tried to kill my mother....you killed my father...and you are not going to kill me!"
C'mon.
Look, I love Christian Bale. He's literally my favorite actor, but he's just like any other actor. When working with a sub-par director, his acting may not be the best it could be. I mean Bale's worked with Steven Spielberg, Terence Malik, Werner Herzog, Michael Mann and Christopher Nolan. All terrific directors. And now he's working with...McG.
I'm going to give Bale, McG and the entire film the benefit of the doubt, but as much as the trailer was indeed gorgeous looking, I'm still cautiously optimistic and not impressed. Bale has credibility, and I'm hoping his credibility is going to lend this film some gravitas, but at the end of the day, not even his performance will be able to save the film.
So here's hoping.
If Christian Bale is in a movie, then I will see that movie. That is all.

He's in the trailer, so I guess he is in it
You could say that over-acting has been a feature of all of the Terminator movies. 'And it will not stop UNTIL YOU ARE DEAD!' would not have worked had Michael Biehn aimed for subtle-understatement. Or Joe Norton's chattering teeth in T2, or Kristana Lohken's orgasm face when she detects John's blood in T3. I like all of those performances - but the series isn't Merchant Ivory. A degree of OTT is called for.
