The most original timeline that we never saw has two more obvious shapes.

1. No Judgement Day. No Skynet. Humans send a droid back in time to 1984 to investigate the past. Misplaced/lost future tech is then used in the past to invent Skynet, and kick off the war.

2. No John Connor. The machines (who were not built with Future tech) win the war easily. Invent time travel for shits and giggles. They send a slave/biospecimin/test animal called Kyle Reese, as proof of concept, back to 1984 who "somehow" makes a baby with Sarah Connor, who is John Connor, who saves the world.

How is the movie compared to the originals? I'm really skeptical about the idea of the robots having some kind of virus that makes you a robot. I think the original Terminators had the right amount of magic and don't need further magic tacked onto them.

It's really not that far fetched thinking about it. It's really not all that different from Borg nanoprobes. I'm pretty critical of terminator at times (those who were here with TSCC aired know that) but it wasn't a bad film either. I'd put it above Salvation and ROTM like many.

Jason Clarke confirmed he's signed for two sequels as John Connor.

As for the mention of TSCCs suggested above, I would've liked that too... though they probably couldn't for legal reasons. Derek was an invention of the TV Series. I think that jumping forward to try to prevent JD is a nod to the series though.

I thought it was just slightly above average, visually it's an awesome movie and I liked the connections to the other movies. But I do think the love between Kyle and Sarah was a bit mishandled, it was a shame that Kyle was left in the dark while Sarah knew everything about their relationship. I loved the fight between John and the Guardian, it was actually better than the fight in the second movie. But since their wanted sequels the movie does leave alot of things unanswered, I only hope there are more movies to answer those questions. And I loved Emilia Clarke's take on Sarah Connor, yet again though it's a shame we don't see the journey that Sarah took in the first movie.

Honestly, the best thing about this movie was Pops. I really liked his characterization. You can tell this he's mostly machine, but there's a hint of emotion there too. Kind of like when Data killed that Borg. Arnold seems to piece the movie together.

We had nothing better to do this afternoon and decided what the hell, let's go see it.

I was surprised to find I liked it as well as I did. It was quite faithful to the Cameron films in both tone and visual acknowledgments. As with any tale that relies so heavily on time-travel, there are a number of loose threads and unanswered questions, but overall, it was highly enjoyable.

Emilia Clarke is beyond hot.

I also wished a bone could've been thrown at Sarah Connor Chronicles, like Reese having a brother named Derek. That's the only acknowledgement I would've needed, but I think it would've made me smile.
If it helps, the term "skin-job" gets used, just like SCC.

Just got back from the movie.

Loved the hell out of it! Just a good, fun actioner! I personally hope this is the last Terminator movie...let it end on a good note.

The critics who said that the movie was too hard to follow clearly did not see the same movie I did.

Emilia Clarke was the best thing about this movie. She really reminded me a slightly (but not overly) tougher version of the 1984 Sarah.

But that's where the highlights end. Arnold was fun, but we've seen it twice before.

I don't like Jai Courney, and in the original film, the love story was so simple and perfect. In this film they hate each other.

Worst is I hated Jason Clake. John Connor should be an intense dude. This guy might as well be "Smiley" from Deep Space Nine

I don't get the haterade about Jai Courtney. (Then again, this is probably the first movie I've seen him in.) I thought he did alright as Kyle Reese.

And yes, Emilia Clarke rocked, as did Ah-nuld!

So cool that two actresses from Game of Thrones have played Sarah Connor.

Jai Courtney wasn't as bad as I had feared, but he was very much a generic action lead. I liked the other members of the cast.

I agree, Jai wasn't as actively bad as I had expected...but he's still as bland as boiled celery.

Love Emilia Clarke but HATED Sarah Connor throughout most of the movie. Jason Clarke though was excellent as John.
I felt the exact opposite--Emilia Clarke really nailed the concept of a Sarah Connor who was already hardened ten years earlier, while Jason Clarke gave off none of the vibe I'd look for in a John Connor. (For all its faults, Salvation got that piece of casting right.) Similarly, Jai Courtney failed to convince me he was supposed to be the (exact!) same character Michael Biehn played.

I do think it's interesting that at this point, not one of the main cast in this very American franchise is actually from the US.

Wow, I can't believe people are saying this is better than T3 and T4, because I thought this was the absolute worst Terminator yet. With the most random, idiotic, nonsensical story imaginable, more plot holes than I can count, and not a trace of the real world atmosphere or credibility Cameron took the time to establish in his movies.

Hell, even the previous two movies managed to create a setting and world that you could take somewhat seriously, but I didn't believe or care about a second of anything that happened here. The story seemed to bounce around with no rhyme or reason, the Sarah and Kyle Reese characters were written in the most generic and cartoonish way ever, and the action scenes just felt like rehashes of everything we've seen before (but with a few more advanced morphing effects, woohoo).

The one bright spot was Arnold, but he basically just seemed to hang around in the background for most of the movie, with the only real memorable moment when he fought his younger self. In fact I'd say that CG Arnold had more iconic power and presence in this movie than the real Arnold, sadly.

So yeah... I'd say the 27% score on RT is just about right for this.

My favourite dumb summer movie so far (emphasis on the dumb). Didn't mind all the timey-wimey stuff, and Arnold and Emilia were ok. But Jai Courtney? Sheesh. Charisma-free zone; especially in comparison to Michael Biehn. Would have been much better as a new T-800.

Most of the trailers and TV spots I've seen end on the shot of Ahnuld saying "I'll be back" and then jumping out of the helicopter and faceplanting into the rotors of the helicopter that's following them. They clearly seem to think that's an iconic shot, which worries me because it just makes me laugh.

That was one of many LOL moments. Like a lot of contemporary action films, the third acts just suck and that SF copter chase was just 'enough already' videogame time. And there wasn't one visceral scene to match anything by Cameron, or even the crane chase in much-maligned T3.

The worst part of Arnie jumping out to take down the other chopper is that it immediately follows Sarah shooting the T-3000 with an explosive round...but she doesn't bother shooting any part of the chopper.

So Pops jumping out is a totally unnecessary action.
