Tennant is done filming, Smith to start in a month and more (SPOILERS)

Re: Tennant is done filming, Smith to start in a month and more (SPOIL

I really don't think we should panic. What I think will happen is that the tenth Doctor will meet the eleventh before regenerating into him. It's never really happened before and it means we could have something unique as well as a true passing of the torch moment.
I kinda think that what's going to happen too...

But I also wouldn't be surprised if Tennant's last story ends with the beginning of the regeneration sequence...
...and Smith's first story begins with its conclusion (and Smith wobbling about in Tennant's outfit for awhile).

The only clue we have about that little theory is that Russel T. Davies (OBE) loves foreshadowing and as we all know, in The Next Doctor, the tenth Doctor seemed to be genuinely excited to meet someone he thought was one of his future incarnations. Maybe it will eventually happen with the eleventh Doctor.

And I feel for you, sincerely. I remember watching Tom fall from the Pharos Project when I was just a child. To be honest, that entire moment is what cemented my love and allegiance to this show. The idea that the main character could, indeed, "die". It was unheard of! Never looked back. You should embrace that idea. While in the modern age we'll know long before it happens, we won't have the incumbent to immediately comfort us. Tom dies and Peter Davison instantly comes along and says "I'm The Doctor". Nowadays, we'll find out our Doctor is "terminally ill", and have to endure the long, excruciating term knowing when the moment is coming. So, you'll need to find a level of comfort in looking forward to something new, or you'll never survive this show post-Tennant.
its funny, this is obviously not my first regeneration, but it just does not feel the same this time around, its possible that, that is due to the fact I consider Tennant to be "My Doctor" (as the fans say) but I like to hope I will accpet Smith when he appears, but until the regeneration actual happens, I dont think I will be ready to accpet him. Hence why I say the regeneration should be on screen.

"Change, my dear. And it seems not a moment too soon."
something like that, might be a good line for Smith.

The Mirrorball Man by that logic the Doctor will also regenerate by tripping over a brick.

Already done.

Or hitting his head on the side of the console.

The trouble is that skipping a few centuries makes something of a mokery of the Ood prophesy (reiterated by the lady in Planet of the Dead) that his song was coming to an end. That didn't seem to imply a few hundred more years of adventures. Not to me anyway.

Didn't River also say something about how young Tennant's Doctor was.

She did, but that can be interpreted in several different ways. Not saying my opinion is any more valid but I know I'm not the only one who thinks it, and that is that what she meant was the look in his eyes that seemed young, rather than Tennant's doc.

The idea of 10 meeting 11 is interesting, but if it is done hopefully Moffat will have a hand in scripting it, otherwise Moffat's doctor's first scenes will be scripted by Russell...not a big deal but it would be kinda odd.

I thought I read something where RTD mentioned once Tennant regenerates into Smith, "my writing ends and his begins" or something to that effect.

Re: Tennant is done filming, Smith to start in a month and more (SPOIL

^that's what he said in SFX.

"there's a very strong end and then there's a very strong beginning for him. It's literally one second later. .... Mine will end and his will start."

Re: Tennant is done filming, Smith to start in a month and more (SPOIL

really so far we have had 3 regenerations
Well, er... no.

The second Doctor being forced by the Time Lords to choose the appearance of his next regeneration (why he wanted to look like Jon Pertwee is anyone's guess).

The way I remember it, he didn't actually get to decide. The Timelords presented him with a range of appearances and he rejected them all so the Timelords decided that clown would turn into a dandy.

Re: Tennant is done filming, Smith to start in a month and more (SPOIL

^Which would also explain the 3rd Doctor's more "authoritarian" personality, as opposed to the anti-hero incarnations. With Jon Pertwee, The Doctor was probably the most "Time Lord" we've ever seen him. At least the arrogance and sincerity was, anyway...

Re: Tennant is done filming, Smith to start in a month and more (SPOIL

I dunno, I can see Hartnell fitting in perfectly with some of those older Time Lords seen in, say, The Deadly Assassin (and that's not an insult to Hartnell, although I guess it does seem like one)...

Exactly. Hartnell was very much a normal Time Lord until someone or something gave him the impulse to run away. Humans mellowed him into Troughton's incarnation. Then, the Time Lords made him into Jon Pertwee, a more regal, authoritarian figure (like themselves), his rebellious streak coming out as the action hero. His next incarnation was seemingly in reaction to being captive for so long, the wandering bohemian at one with the universe. From there on out, no Doctor has had that same air about them that Pertwee brought to the role.

Just my opinion, naturally... :)

I like it! Nice way to think of it.

According to the Second Doctor, he was simply bored. The Time Lords had a strict policy of non-interference with the affairs of other civilizations and all travel from Gallifrey was forbidden except with special permission from the High Council...

Re: Tennant is done filming, Smith to start in a month and more (SPOIL

There's no reason why they couldn't end Tennant's last episode with a Matt Smith "New Teeth" style ending, and then when Smith starts his run, there's been an unstated amount of time in between, it doesn't have to carry on with no time lapse.

True! That is one of many hints, insinuations, theories, and fanon that have crept up over the years. I don't suppose we'll ever know the whole the story, though. Which is best in my opinion. Keeps the mystery. But, I do love speculating. :techman:

Another log to throw onto the fire about the Doctor's reasons for leaving Gallifrey was from the 25th anniversary story "Silver Nemesis," in which there was a character that threatened to reveal the Doctor's involvement in "the Dark Times on Gallifrey."

I remember after this story aired the speculation arose among some fans that the First Doctor may not have always been on the side of good in his past. Throughout the series--and even into the current one--there have been brief glimpses of the Doctor's slightly darker side in his later incarnations. With Tennant, I thought "Family of Blood" was a perfect example of how it's seriously not a good idea to make the Doctor really mad...
