Yeah, that seems a bit optimistic to me. I could maybe see November or December, but I have to question if it could really make a September US date.
They announced the release dates for Tenet, with the US the last to get it.
Australia, Germany, France, Italy, Canada Japan, Korea, Russia, and the UK are all getting it on August 26th and the US will get it on Sept. 3rd, a day earlier than Regal said.

Yep, staggered release. Since there are parts of the world where theatres are reopened with no negative consequences, they're going to release it there instead of relying on American theatres to reopen. An interesting solution, to be sure.
A great many of us consistantly did, please don't paint us all with a single brush, yes?
I hope they hang on to Tenet until it can be in the theaters, and don't release it to other media. Some movies need to be in theaters to be properly enjoyed.
That the Tom Hanks movie Greyhound will likely never see the inside of a theater is sad.

I keep hoping for this, too, but it seems increasingly unlikely. I've seen every Nolan film on the big screen at least once since Insomnia and I certainly want to see Tenet there, too.
Yeah, that really breaks my heart. Not just as a Tom Hanks fan, but also as someone who served in the Navy. I was really looking forward to watching it on the big screen. I still haven't watched mostly because I don't want to admit that it'll never happen.
I'd love to know why Nolan is so insistent on getting this thing out ASAP. Sounds like the studio could have held back for a few more months or until next year like everyone else but Nolan twisted their arm. I did read about his belief in the movie-going experience and spearheading a return to normalcy but still, I'd like to know what's really going on in his head. Never mind COVID or the fact that they won't be raking in as much money as they could, he wants this thing out now!
Until there's actual proof that Nolan is putting pressure to release Tenet as soon as possible, I don't believe that horseshit for a minute. If I'm wrong, by all means provide a reliable source. And I don't mean an insider source with dubious proof or some guy heard from another guy that Nolan was doing something XYZ.
Yeah, there are definitely other factors than just what Nolan wants. NATO (the theatre association, not the defensive alliance) recently wrote an open letter begging movie studios to release new movies. And the studio itself has to consider its own stability. Sure, more money later might be good on the face of it, but some money now will probably satisfy more shareholders.

It's not that rare. A very popular example is the 1990 "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie, since they wanted to get a low rating so their main audience, kids, could watch it. Among other things, they cut all the Nunchaku action, as well as add funny sound effects to all the violence (*Boing*, *Ding-Dong* and such).
European rating systems look far more critically at depictions of violence than the MPAA. The Matrix movies, for example, in Germany all have a FSK-16 rating (meaning advised for viewers 16 and above), and so do TDK and TDKR.
Americans are so weird in that we think it's more harmful to children to show a human body undressed than to show it eviscerated.
