"Tenet" - 2020.. Nolan's new mindbender

In my area only drive-in theaters are open. The closest one is over an hour away. I guess I'll have to clean my windshield better than usual before heading out to see this.

Argh... "The studio issued strict guidelines to drive-in operators across the country, mandating that “Tenet” can only play in outdoor venues if indoor theaters in that particular market are open." (source)

That rules out my area. I guess I'll just be waiting for the blu-ray.

Tom Cruise was spotted at the theater watching "Tenet"

That's Chris McQuarrie behind Cruise, in case anyone was wondering.

Back to the movies...

Surprised they didn't just replace it with more nudity for the UK release. ;) [Funny how the U.S. it's up in arms whenever a film has nudity or sexualluy themed content, and the UK is up in arms with anything they see as excessive violence (That said, myself being a U.S. citizen, I'm more in tune with who the UK sees violence then how the U.S. sees nudity and sex in film.) ;)

Oh, crap, are they wearing masks with vents in them? That defeats the entire purpose, because the vents only filter incoming air, not outgoing breath. As far as other people's safety is concerned, they might as well be completely unmasked.

What the fuck is that bullshit, Warner Brothers?

Even though there aren't any drive-in theaters remotely near me (and I don't have a car...), this doesn't effect me directly, but this is pretty stupid and counterintuitive.

I really enjoyed it. It reminded me so much of the Red Dwarf episode where time is going backwards.
My only issue I had with it was the sound mix. There were some scenes where the background noise was too loud that you couldn’t hear the dialogue

Here's a behind-the-scenes featurette, which -- unlike many videos under that label -- actually does feature behind-the-scenes production footage rather than just interviews and publicity flack:

It says Nolan did as much of the action and FX live and in-camera as possible, including some of the time-reversal gags. That's good to know, but there are still plenty of instances that had to be composite/CGI shots.

Oh, and apparently what's going on is explained as entropy reversal, which is kinda shaky science. Yes, the arrow of time is due to entropy increasing on a universal scale, but I don't think reversing individual objects' entropy would make them move backward in time relative to their surroundings; after all, we reduce things' entropy all the time by exerting work to increase their order.

Hmm... kind of like "The Dark Knight Rises."

Did you see in a theater or drive in?

A drive in? Do they still have cost? Certainly not near me.
In my area, only drive-in theaters are allowed to operate right now. But I can't go see this movie in a drive-in because Warner is only allowing drive-in theaters to show the movie if sit-down theaters are also open in the same market. To avoid spoilers getting out, or some such rubbish. :scream:

It’s Nolan. He thinks the film needs to be seen in the cinema. Personally I don’t see why. Some scenes were visually impressive but nothing amazing. Would have been better to see it on demand as I would be able to alter the sound levels.

Saw the movie myself today. Honestly, underwhelmed. Mostly, it's just really confusing. Kind of feels like being dropped right in the middle of a sequel to a movie I hadn't seen, which might have been intentional, to replicate the feeling of the main character being deposited into a weird and confusing world of time travel and associated effects. But it creates a kind of off-putting viewing experience, IMO.

In some ways it's kind of a Doctor Who parallel at the end, with the main character (who is referred to as nothing else but "the Protagonist" in the movie) as the Doctor and Robert Pattinson's character as River Song.

Do you have a source for this? I was hoping to see it at a drive in...

Exhibitors were told that Warner Bros. wants to keep “Tenet” from areas where traditional venues are still shuttered in order to help preserve the twists and turns of the plot, which has been shrouded in secrecy. But theater owners are concerned that audiences could resort to seeking out the movie elsewhere — like pirating it online.

Duh... they are living in fantasy land. They need to release this movie to as many people as possible not make some weird restrictions! For example, New Mutants is screening at the Rose Bowl day and night - so if people want to see it they will be able to...
