Tell Me Three Things About Yourself

While on a run I throw worms off the road and into the grass when I see them stuck squirming and writhing after a rain. It bothers me to see creatures suffer.

I was inches away from being hit by a truck when I was a teenager. I stepped out of the way just a blink before it passed by, and almost felt it brush my arm. The driver never saw me.

I love workshops, the kinds that are filled with various nuts and bolts, nails and washers and naked light bulbs dangling from a cord, along with all the tools one can imagine...and grease. I love grease.

I'm more worried about turtles - I don't know why the poor critters insist on crossing roads at the busiest places in traffic! The roadkill is harder to ignore when you're on foot but you do get to hear birds and feel wind so it's okay!

Sorry to hear about your close call! I wear one of those horrid orange vests but nver had a close call like yours!

Mmh, so many things to choose from...

1) I just finished my PhD in astrophysics (and I mean just finished: I defended my dissertation last week).

2) I've been practicing martial arts for 10 years and I'm an accredited instructor.

3) People get strange vibes around me: they tell me I'm charming, helpful, well-mannered, and always polite to a point. Still, many people feel uncomfortable around me. "Crawling-with-willies" uncomfortable. I still don't know what to make of that. I guess I should start to describe myself as a man of wealth and taste.

1. I'm an all-around creative type of person. There isn't any form of art I haven't tried at least a few times.
2. I'm picky about who I make friends with, but once I do, it's for life (at least if I have anything to say about it.)
3. I'm a caring and empathetic person by nature, which doesn't come across so well here since I mostly post in TNZ.

Indeed..what's up with them anyway! I saved a three-legged box turtle last year. He had made it halfway across one lane and had three to go. He earned the name "Scrappy" :). He is in a safer environment now with other crazy ass street-crossing turtles, at a wildlife rehabilitator's home.

Roadkill is hard to ignore *bleigh* I worked (and worked out) in a gym and love some aspects of having all the equipment available, but I couldn't run anywhere but outside.

I'm spoiled! I usually do yoga in the house and run on my hamster wheel in the winter - the first run of the spring is always a killer - I ususally go out thinking I'm in pretty good shape and BAM! It takes a couple weeks to feel like a road warrior again! I've taken a few spills on the ice and the lay-up irritates me and makes me crabby. (Husb says you can't really tell the diff! grrr.)

Scrappy! I love that!

1. I have Alopecia, and thus have 90% hair loss. The little hair I had on my head Iv just shaved off, so I could quite easily play Ilia in Star Trek the Motion Picture.
My boyfriend has Alopecia. He decided to shave everything off too, much more managable.

Ashu, prom in a cave? Wow!
Yeah, I went to highschool in a mining city so in the cities science center you can rent out some of the old unused mining caves.

It was kind of awkward when we'd be walking through in our prom dressed and theyd be giving classes of ten year olds tours

Congrats on your PhD! That is a major accomplishment...the stress was incredible I'll wager.

Of all the forms, do you have a favorite medium you work with?

I would rank them in this order in terms of affinity:

1. Writing
2. Programming (yes, it's an art form!)
3. Music
4. Graphics
5. Singing
6. Acting
7. Sculpture
8. Painting (I suck at this)
9. Drawing (and I suck even worse at this)

We get the occasional turtle here. Mostly we have to deal with the millions of suicidal squirrels. I'd swear those things were on acid.

Ours are olympic athletes - no need to swerve - they'll do it for you! The stupid thing is I always feel relieved when I DON'T hit one! Like I had much of a chance! Our dog doesn't even bother barking at them - he knows there's no way in heck he'd ever catch one! Turtles - he has only a slightly better chance at those!

I do the same, not just in wet weather, in all weathers, especially the heat; not only worms, but snails, infact anything that needs rescueing.

Thanks Ashu and Laser, I feel a lot better without all the scraggily bits. I persume the being more sexy works for females as well as males.

Holy shit, this thread is growing fast.

Oh do tell, what are you snobbish about?

Mmh, about a lot of things. I'm a beer snob for starters, and even a sort of soda snob. I'm also snobbish about everything that has to do with culture and education, i.e. often I have this feeling of superiority over others. In short, I'm a horrible person.

1) When I was 14, I received my black belt in Taekwondo.

Cool, I never got beyond the blue-red one. Are you still practising, and if so, what Dan have you reached?

I think I come across as more idealistic online than I do in person. I used to be a really cynical, sarcastic, and negative person in RL so some of that still comes across. But I think the way I am online is more of who I really am.

A lot of people admit to (sometimes large) discrepancies between their personalities on line and in real life. Honestly, I think I come across pretty similarly online as I do IRL, so hat you see is what you get -- though I do find it easier to flirt online.

I do tend to think the same although I find it very difficult to gauge how I come across in real life. For some reason, I'm often very well liked, much to my own surprise, because I have a hard time understanding why. I guess I don't really believe that I merit this kind of sympathy.

2. I used to tell people I dropped out of high school when in fact I passed the equivalency exam when I was 16.

Why did you do that?

[.3.] I write romantic fiction.

Really? I didn't know that. Just for fun or do you hope to get published one day?

Congratulations, iguana tonante! Hang on there, Me-Ike!

Right now I do it just for fun. My stories average about 25-30 pages total. However, I have plans to either combine them into one single tome, or just write a fresh story about 5 times the length of those short stories. I do want to be published, but I don't know whether I want to finish my Sci-fi stories first and then publish these later, or maybe, just incorporate them into the Science Fiction stories.

Wow, I just sat here and read this whole thread... fascinating stuff!

As for me...

1. I'm a spaz. Or have undiagnosed ADD. Either way, no attention span worth a damn.

2. I used to write dirty, dirty celebrity fanfic and finally stopped when I noticed I was using the same phrases over and over again.

3. I'm technically unemployed, but design and code websites to keep afloat.

Thank you for doing this, Kes. I personally don't feel alienated around here and actually think that this forum (as well as TBBS as a whole) has a rather friendly atmosphere. :)

*snip*

I realize this is Kes' thread, and I don't presume to tell people what they can or cannot post. So if you gather that impression, my humblest apologies. These are just suggestions.

Oh sure, I think it's a friendly forum too, just a bit large and easy to get lost in. Anyone's free to make suggestions or change it up a bit, and I'm glad to see the thread has taken on a little life of its own, with people getting to know one another! :)

To Strasbourg, France, from Seattle.. although I'm from Serbia, originally.

Wow, that's pretty intense. I hope you're enjoying it!

I was wondering if Kestra was going to use our answers as a psychological experiment showing how different people reveal different things

I have to admit, it is rather telling to see what people reveal! But I'm always observing people and patterns in their behavior and whatnot, and while I find the posts in this thread interesting on several levels, I assure you I have no nefarious purposes!

1. I have Alopecia, and thus have 90% hair loss. The little hair I had on my head Iv just shaved off, so I could quite easily play Ilia in Star Trek the Motion Picture.

I often find myself tempted to shave my head, as I hate dealing with my hair.

Do you have a pic of yours?

Comet: And Nemo:

Congrats dude, that's really amazing! :bolian:

#4. Has so many women in his life that I have to resort to a numbering system to keep them straight.

In short, I'm a horrible person.

You don't seem horrible! At least now we all know what you're really thinking of us!

I vote Kestra for TBBS cruise director...

1) I had childhood rheumatoid arthritis. The doctors told my parents to move somewhere warmer. So they packed up the family and we moved from PA to CA, which had a profound effect on how the rest of my life has gone.

2) I have terrible name recollection. Sometimes folks I've know forever but haven't seen in awhile; I walk up and the name just isn't there. I use all kinds of coping mechanisms to deal with it.

3) I'm a blueberry fanatic. Especially in search of the ultimate blueberry pie!
