Bit late to the party but I just finished the series finale (which obviously wasn't the series finale) last night having only gotten around to seeing the show this year.
First thing to say is that obviously I loved it. I wish I'd been watching a lot sooner.
But that said the third season did feel a little disappointing. Despite much longer episodes it seemed to struggle, especially towards the end and seemed to have too much plot for the season, felt very rushed. I've heard they always planned just three seasons but it did feel a tad like S4 of Babylon 4 where JMS was clearly squashing S5 in there. Does anyone know if this was the case?
A few points.
Nate was always going to be redeemed, but it felt a trifle unearned that he returned to Richmond the way he did, and like many things, his leaving West Ham seemed to happen off screen.
They really seemed to be playing up the potential that Michelle was gonna dump Dr Jacob (seriously how hasn't that guy been struck off!) and maybe a reconciliation was on the cards? But it didn't go anywhere.
Jamie and Roy being children and fighting over Keeley wasn't a good look for either of them, especially since Jamie seemed to have got past how he felt about her, seemed to be drama for drama's sake.
Rupert was rarely more than a pantomime villain but as comeuppances go being called a wanker by the crowd at the club you loved since you were a child was chef's kiss.
Sam getting into the Nigerian team was great, but how did this happen? Again lotta stuff off screen.
I'm glad they didn't win the league, and given how many games they lost it's kind ridiculous they were even in with a shot! I was hoping they'd maybe win the FA cup, that would have been more believable.
Ted's monologue about the Championship, the Premier League and the Champions League was wonderful, as was him getting the offside rule.
They seemed to set a lot of things up for Rebecca without paying them off, unless bumping into Dutch bloke at the end counts?
The Roy/Keeley posters in Jamie's childhood bedroom was a great visual gag.
Talking of Jamie, his dad in, I'm guessing, rehab?, again felt like stuff happening off screen.
Ted 'inventing' Total Football was hilarious.
The Dani/ Zoreaux international game was funny, especially Dani turning from one of the nicest guys on the planet to a monster!
